GIANTS JUNIORS VICTORIOUS IN OPENING CLASH
The historic maiden fixture for a Giants representative team in Australia ended in victory as the Under-16’s scholarship side enjoyed a convincing 46-6 victory over a Central Coast representative seventeen.
Two tries apiece from Nathan Mason, Aaron Webb and Matty Brook were added to scores from Elliot Gorman and Jonathan Foulds with Ben Whitehead kicking seven successful conversions from eight attempts.
Stand-out performers on the day included prop forward Nathan Mason, back-rower Josh Johnson and Elliot Gorman. The Giants starlets now move onto the western suburbs of Sydney to face off against Balmain Tigers at the famous Leichardt Oval ground on Saturday.
The Central Coast victory at Forster/Turncurry was sponsored by the Morgan family.

After a nervous start from the Giants youngsters, Jack Blagbrough showed great feet and speed to break through the middle, Liam Coe was in support before passing onto Matty Brook who scored under the posts. Ben Whitehead converted to put the Giants 6-0 ahead.
This was a settling influence on the team, which then allowed them to utilise the full complement of the skills and enthusiasm that they had prepared and wished to deliver.
The big Giants forward pack of Jack Blagbrough, Josh Johnson, Nathan Mason and Peter Aspinall made massive in-roads, which set the platform for Liam Coe and Elliot Gorman to take the team around the field and constantly ask questions of the NSW Country champions, who had numerous players contracted to NRL clubs.
As the Giants exerted their dominance they cut loose with flurry of tries from Mason, Aaron Webb and the pick of the bunch from Gorman who collected the ball and took it from his own twenty beating several players showing blistering speed and agility to score under the post. Whitehead converted all three tries.
A lapse in concentration gifted the North Coast side a simple score with the last play of the half and the Giants went into the half time break leading 24-6
The second half saw the claret and gold display the same dominance, winning every aspect of the game, tries came from Mason, Brook and Webb all getting their second tries with the one for Jonathon Foulds completing a very professional performance.
The youngsters were just too big, too strong and too fast for their Australian opponents on this occasion and head towards their next game against Balmain Tigers full of confidence.
