_Sports fans around the world can witness history in the making on Wednesday night when foxsports.com.au live streams the Hybrid Rugby experiment from Brookvale Oval.\
\
\
Sydney's St Augustines College and Gold Coast's Keebra Park State High School will be the guinea pigs for the first ever union-league combination game, which will be played from 7pm (EST).\
\
\
Debate has raged about the hybird game's place in the Australian sporting landscape, but rugby legend Mark Ella and league great Noel Cleal are among the growing band of advocates.\
\
\
\
Ella, who played a key role in creating the rules for the game, says it should be embraced by fans of both codes - and not simply as a novelty act.\
\
Wednesday night's 13-a-side game will be contested over two 35-minute halves, with the rules centring around the half of the field the attacking team is in.\
\
When the attacking team is in its own half they will play to rugby league rules, but upon entering the opposition's half they'll switch to rugby union rules.\
\
Foxsports.com.au's live coverage will be complemented by a Facebook chat module, providing users with score updates and the opportunity to share their thoughts about the start-up sport.\
\
So, be sure to bookmark this page and return on Wednesday night for a look at the game that could lay the foundation for a mouth-watering meeting between the Wallabies and Kangaroos in the future._

I like the idea of merging the two sports together but I just hate Rugby Union and it's differences make it a poor sport. I'd much prefer if Rugby Union just died and all their talent started playing League but there's no chance of that happening unfortunately. I wouldn't mind a Hybrid match between the Wallabies and the Kangaroos though.

There's a reason nobody gives a stuff about Rugger, it's boring. Rugby consists of a team made up of 7 athletes called backs, and 8 slobs called forwards. The aim of the game is for one teams 8 forwards to stop the other teams 7 backs getting the ball. The fact Matt Dunning was an international Rugby player says it all about that putrid sport.

International Rugby is fantastic and creams anything that league has.
Watching the Reds and Crusaders this year has been a joy
IMO I feel that rugby in Australia is generally shifting to embrace more league elements. There will always be the difference in the forwards, but I welcome any move that may lead to reunification.

international rugby is obviously better than international league but id much rather watch state of origin over a bledisloe cup match. all they do is kick penalties. borrrrrrring. the ease in which league players go over and walk into the union teams also makes me laugh

We would massacre the wallabies , the all blacks and any other rugby side

The rugby guys would not be able to cope with the speed of the game in defence that they would need to be remotely competitive

Yep. Ryan Cross anyone? International union is such a terribly boring game. For every Queensland Reds there are countless South African and European teams who are obsessed with scrums, rucks, and penalties. I remember when England were the best team in the world and most games would score 1 try tops.

In any event I don't see this hybrid concept going anywhere fast in the short to mid term.

If the wallabies played the Kangaroos the score would be a 30+ flogging to the leagies with a few injuries to the union boys.

I rate Canberra v Parramatta to be a far more entertaining game than any union international.

That sport is so boringly crap its not funny.

One thing that will always stick in my mind is when I was watching a super 14 game a year or so back. The score was 17-0 after 30 minutes. The side behind got a penalty (30 out, almost in front), and took a kick for touch. The commentators were dumbfounded that they didn't take the penalty goal. The negative play in that game is ridiculous.
