I don't get the Folkes hype

When people say he has been out of the game too long - he was Bulldgos coach in 2008, he was with the Tigers in 10 and 11 and he was with the Dragons in 12 where as defensive coach he had them the 3rd best defence despite coming 9th.

I think he would be a really good choice and to me out of those mentioned it comes down to Folkes, Brown or Taylor unless Daniel Anderson wants the job.

Tigermama ,I think you fancy the great Folkesy,he's been coaching the women,it will be no different if he comes back to the Wests Tigers,he will be in his element…........

Roberta is still in the under 14's, when his boobies develop he can represent the Jillaroos.

OK already, everyone gets the old school theory about coaching the modern game, but people like Folkes Sheens and even Lang knew how to play our game…HARD and take no prisoners...we have to adapt and in saying that, most on this forum don't understand the rules week to week ,hell I can't even follow the changes from one game to the next, what we need is one key ingredient to be successful and that is DISIPLINE, something that is lacking from the modern game, and especially from our great club. The coach is the coach what he says goes,he answers to the CEO, he answers to the board. We need our players to answer to the new coach, not Robbie or anyone else except the coach. The CEO answers to the board and leaves the coaching to the coach, the assistants answer to the coach not the CEO and maybe we will be on the path of the true success we are destined for,the rubbish in our club must stop or we will forever be in the NRL wilderness... :brick: :brick:

Hmmm interesting point however the world not just football has moved on from this philosophy - don't get me wrong - I agree 100% - but today nobody is wrong, all kids finish first and are given a ribbon, no one is a loser, inclusion is a priority even if you have no idea what your talking about, no one answers to anyone and everyone has a right to have a say how things are done - no wonder footballers are a bunch of overpaid, no brains prima donnas.

@Flippidy,wake up we need your valuable input, this s..t is serious and we need a solution that will favour all of us.

Heaven help the new board if they make a bad decision on the new coach…......

I'm awake, boss - I was just dozing, I swear

As for my 'valuable' input  I would be happy with either Folkes or Griffin or both - no one else they have in mind really does it for me I'm afraid.

@Flippidy,agree with your comments, however I think a key factor that we need at the WestsTigers is a coach with previous NRL experience,a hard task master to pull the senior players in line and yet develope the young ones ….your thoughts anyone....

I think anyone with NRL experience will know that they'll need to pull the players into line. They'll know its their career on the line. Griffin,Taylor, Folkes are all good candidates IMO. Please no rookies

I would take Folkes as football GM in a heartbeat, put his finger on the pulse of the whole operation to turn it into a finely tuned machine, then stick Jason Taylor as head coach.

That pairing would put a torch to both our football operations and the pack of blouses we call a football team.

Definitely no rookies! If they end up signing Parish, I'm out of here!

I think the Folkes horse as bolted. Hasn't been a head coach for almost 10 yrs. Need someone whose a little more modern. Griffin, Taylor or Brown i'd take.

Coaching is like riding your bike - you never forget. Anyway he's coaching the Jillaroos. You can't get more modern than that GNR

The Jillaroos would probably cream our lads at the moment.

After reading all of the posts a majority of people would like to see an experienced coach at our club, however I can't help but think that the Potter sacking or should I say non renewal of his contract has been a setup since the mid season review,in the way that shortly after there was going to be a meeting to sack Potter,at the same time Parish was to finish at the Raiders, just a coincidence,I think not,Mayer favours Parish as he has worked with him before and they are mates. Then we have Mayer saying that the new coach will have access to everything to do with coaching the side from players through to assistants, something not afforded to Potter.I don't think that to many people would be all that pleased if this is to happen.
\
\
I like many would prefer someone like Folkes,if Parish gets the job then the new board would be useless to us as they clearly lean to Mayers recommendations and he rules the roost,And I was under the impression that the board would make the tough decisions to take the club forward.Parish in my opinion would be a backward step :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: :sign:

Truetiger
I agree what you say but I think they are looking for someone with experience
As far as Potter is concerned he was a feeling guy until they paid off Sheans

Like many others I think Folkes has been out of the game for too long.

Would be happy for him to return in an S&C role though.

My thoughts exactly.the more I think of it the more Jason Taylor seems the best option personally.Good past success and is still relatively young also.Would be great with Brooks and Moses also.
