I know it’s been said…

Change isn't necessarily a good thing.

As I said in another thread, no matter what we do we aren't making the 8 this year, next year and probably the year after. Sacking Madge isn't going to change that, there is no Bellamy, Bennet or Robinson that is jobless.

Take 3 years, coach the shit out of your coaches and juniors. Really fix up all the issues. Why are we expecting someone else to come in and clean up the mess? Let the bastards who got us into it get us out, how much worse can it get?

Madge is guaranteed to not get another job anywhere else, he has nothing to lose. Tell him you got 2 more years, discipline the shit out of these guys. Buy a couple of retired hard heads- hell get Farah, Skando and Rowdy out of retirement and show these pricks what it means to train hard and play hard. Show them wtf effort actually means..

I'm sick of going back to a clean slate. We have what we have. No one person is going to get us out of it.

We have some great talented youngsters through our juniors ….. that’s proven with good results we achieved this year. So we are in positive transition which will take few years to achieve.
As I said before …. Our weak roster plus extensive list of early injuries are not a good start for us and we can’t expect much and we are definitely not getting much.….. also we need some serous changes to the 1/3 of our roster for next year …. with an influx of experience-and quality … and Im sure Sheens and the recruitment team are well and truly on the job on that front.
I’m not convinced that the spoon will be ours this year but it’s going to be close.
Either way onwards and upwards but it’s not an easy task to get us out of the hole we’re in.

But we need the spoon. This year and maybe next year as well. Maybe it’s to our detriment that we have never gotten it, cos it has just meant we keep plodding along, deluding ourselves that we aren‘t far off, but we never get there. So maybe a couple of wooden spoons will finally pull the clubs arse into gear. Parra have gotten a couple over the last few years and if hasn’t hurt them. Maybe it steeled them. I won’t see it as a bad thing if we get it. I think it might be the best thing for us.
I think Ur right, but my only concelation was we were one of a very small group who have never won the spoon.

What a ridiculous statement.

We have looked disgraceful.
People have been laughing at us and mocking us since round 1...

Coming last, they'll be able to laugh about it all next year too.

Constant reminders in 2023, we will be referred to as last year's wood spooners the West's Tigers.

You may be right.

Rock bottom will force change.

The problem is, with the Dolphins needing 30 players and recruitment already very difficult for us, rock bottom may not be an easy place to ever climb up from.

Tamou had the audacity to compare us with Penrith's low years today....how he said that with a straight face I will never know. They had a golden generation waiting in the wings and a potential immortal at half back about to come in...

We have almost nothing coming through. Certainly, nothing like a Tedesco or Pearce who could carry us up. Rock bottom may well become a permanent location for us.

Shouldn’t need it, but it does seem like they need something very obvious like the spoon to shake them into gear.

If losing every week isn’t enough to ring any alarm bells, then maybe being universally recognised as the worst team in the comp might finally do it.

I’m not sure the spoon will even fix this.
I’m starting to think the lack of involvement, interest at a board level isn’t going to change until the venture splits.
Hey Neddy, mate everyone is going off at the board.
I'm unsure what they mean.
What are they doing wrong?
Isn't the results on the field more a players and roster issues??

The thing that changed parra was most of the board and the CEO got the arse after cheating the cap. Forced change.
We sacked no one and the board can't be voted out so more plodding on for us I'm afraid. I've already lived through multiple wooden spoons with Wests. It changed nothing
Then what would you do. Replace who with who.
How are we going to get better football players?

Like the Bulldogs are this year?

Just bear with me here.
We all know the history of the JV how it came about and everything associated the board set up the independent chair, the buy in of Balmain share.
It’s all very honourable and I’m not questioning their commitment to the programs, funding, stumping up the juniors etc. I think Wests are invested as far as they can be.
The bit that I struggle with is why?
Balmain were known as the glamour club of the two and had more history of success compared to Wests who were the battler’s.
We know the NRL hold the license in the League as WestsTigers.
So we have Western Suburbs Magpies stumping up the WestsTigers in the professional league, meanwhile the only representation and acknowledgment they get as Wests Magpies is through the Juniors, Ron Massey and KOE Cup.
People are calling for a change of board etc. Similar to what happened with Parramatta etc but it’s just not going to change things.
The Eels are all one brand. Everyone invested in Blue and Gold and working in one direction.
I just think there is too much contradictions in our club and branding.
What’s a new board going to do to change how we are perceived?

It will while Pascoe is steering the ship. We’ve been going backwards for seven years under his vision. Destination club my left one.

Fresh ideas. More ruthless decision making, innovation, attract premium sponsors, change the shitty perception of the club. There’s a few obvious things.

The bit your missing is, what part convinces you that Wests Ashfield wants to run a successful professional football club that is only linked to them due to finances.

5 losses to start the season is enough to force change. don’t have to wait for the spoon.
And as for a staunch brooks fan to now be saying we need the spoon, well, it’s a bit rich.

My thoughts also…
I feel we garnish about 1% of interest from the hierarchy at WA. It seems there’s just a football team to give them something to entertain friends and guests with…. They don’t seem to care to make it successful (and we’re not even the first team they’ve run like this)
Balmain was all for the football - without a business brain between any of them.

I don’t feel we’ll ever be successful under the current ownership model… it just doesn’t seem high on the priority list,
