If we don't make the finals this year...

I have been thinking about how we're all going to feel if the Tigers somehow manage to miss out on making the finals again this year in what is effectively a 15-team competition. Following the unexpected success of '05, 2010 is going to be a year that will bring a segment of time to an end, simply because it'll be half a decade since then.

I often like to look at things in five-year chunks and if we miss out again the reality will be that despite all the moments of brilliance, magic, excitement and fantastic comebacks the Tigers have given us the sum total of 2006 to 2010 will be a big fat zero. What else can it be if, somehow, the club ends up failing to finish any higher than 9th in each and every one of those five years?

I know you're probably reading this and thinking that I shouldn't be so negative. But I am really dreading, hell, even scared of the scenario I've outlined above. I'll never stop supporting this team but if they fail to make the 8 again this year, after the previous failures and with the talent they have and the Storm out of contention, it will be the lowest point in the history of the joint venture.

Warriors, Sharks, Knights…and to a lesser extent Brisbane - no hope, buckleys, sfa.
Add to that Storm....its an 11/12 team comp.
We are very good (at times)...mostly we're average.

If we miss this year- next year will be the same as 07, 08, 09 and this year.

Still....its the back 3rd of the season, after our 2nd bye...thats where it all happens, hopefully we can get our act together by then cause we are one hell of a mess at the moment

lui or taumata have to fill a role this year, one of those 2 will be the most important cog in us making the finals (barring farah or marshall being injured) i really think folkes should take over if we miss the finals for a 5th straight year and TBH i thought we should of approached him in 08 to coach us one he left the dogs, the only thing different this year to any other is our defence which isnt making our losses look to terrible

but when the board accept mediocrity and dont hold the coach accountable failure will follow, its a given.

and we havent been out of the 8 since round 3 i think? and we are still in the top 8 now, i think the concerning thing is just how crap we have looked the last 3 weeks, and TBH the way weve played could we beat the 4 teams you named?

The Tigers seem to have these early season stumbles for one reason or another. I thought with the bright start the team might have been able to push through it, but the last 3 weeks has reminded me of last season where the Tigers lost several close games, which came back to haunt the team at the end of season.

The Tigers need to sort the halfback issue as best they can. I really hope Lui is right to go against Souths because Farah isn't the answer at 7 and both he and Benji look out of sorts. I'm hoping the rep football sparks them back into gear because if they don't fire soon, the Tigs are in trouble I fear.

just need to get a few good wins in a row and get our confidence back, she'll be right!

At least that wil be one positive to come from it.

The only problem is, some wood duck extended his contract, and I dont think this joint has the coin to pay him out…..so sit back boys and enjoy another year of the Fonz

It won't sway my support for wests-tigers.
will I be annoyed, hell yes and quite peed off, and very angry, for sure, more than likely very many expletives!!!. :imp:
but will still enjoy watching them play next season, and never give up my belief in them. 😛ray:
look at bottom lines of my signature.( my liver will get another season of no grog)

We will get there this year.
The last three weeks have been frustrating but this is a better side than we have fielded for some time, and our defence has improved enormously. I dont doubt the talent we have my only real concern is we never seem to get it all right on the day. It's a case of either our attack performing well but our defence being poor or improved defence and zero ball control. That to me comes back to coaching and having our guys with right mental preparation.

The key is going to be settling on a half back whose name is not Robbie Farah or Benji Marshall. No doubts our current struggles come back to losing Moltzen, so i'm hopeful that the inclusion of Lui or Taumata will solve that problem and get us ticking again. I think defensively i've seen the signs we're doing okay. It's going to all be about execution in attack and discipline in defence.

If we don't make the finals we'll only have ourselves to blame really. Injuries could yet derail our chances, especially if we lose another key player i.e; Galloway, Farah, Lawrence, Tuqiri or Marshall to a long term injury. Other than that though it will be deemed a failure if we miss out and somebody should take the bullet for that.

I now miss the old days where we were crap because we had no players. Now we have a team that should have been in the top 8 all of the past 5 years. High expectations brings more pain. Get rid of Marshall, Farah, Ellis, Lote etc etc etc and let me have the expectation that we will lose every week. That way i will never be disappointed and occasionally, when we jag a win, ill be stoked.

I think Sheens will walk if we don't, i don't neccesarily think he should but as he said if can't get something out of this group of players he will step down. It all comes down to who do yu replace him with, who is available?

He has said that if we don't make the finals this year, he will walk away.

Steve Folkes.

I don't believe for one moment he will walk if we don't make the 8 this year.

If we miss the 8 there will be excusses, in the year of no excuesses.

His type never walks, he has too much self belief in what he preaches.

He'll he sacked or asked to resign behind the scenes.

Im with you snowy just a few good wins it all turns around and you do need to time your run and not peak to early.

We have been getting beat but 1 difference is we arent getting killed like we were a few years ago. When we lost we lost big.

I think we will make the top 6 atleast.

Agree with willow that we need to fix our halfback problem. Its just a sahme moltzen got injured cause we were looking so good in attack and since hes got injured we have come back to the field.

Maybe Sheens has changed our style of play working more on our defence and its taking a while to click.

What was our biggest loss last year?
We didn't get hammered much at all in 09 either.
