I have been thinking about how we're all going to feel if the Tigers somehow manage to miss out on making the finals again this year in what is effectively a 15-team competition. Following the unexpected success of '05, 2010 is going to be a year that will bring a segment of time to an end, simply because it'll be half a decade since then.
I often like to look at things in five-year chunks and if we miss out again the reality will be that despite all the moments of brilliance, magic, excitement and fantastic comebacks the Tigers have given us the sum total of 2006 to 2010 will be a big fat zero. What else can it be if, somehow, the club ends up failing to finish any higher than 9th in each and every one of those five years?
I know you're probably reading this and thinking that I shouldn't be so negative. But I am really dreading, hell, even scared of the scenario I've outlined above. I'll never stop supporting this team but if they fail to make the 8 again this year, after the previous failures and with the talent they have and the Storm out of contention, it will be the lowest point in the history of the joint venture.
