Immediate crusher tackle crackdown

NRL need to throw the microscope on the Eels and the crusher tackles. The Sivo tackle had absolutely nothing in it but the way he carried on...well he should get himself a Hollywood agent with that performance.

I agree with bellyache but can storm really be angry at a team for bending the rules. Storm have been bending the rules for a decade now ?

No they have no right to highlight that but even so, because it's Bellamy the NRL might take a second look at the eels technique

That’s true if it was Madge saying it they probably wouldn’t care

If it was Madge or anyone from the Wests Tigers it would be a fine for bringing the game into disrepute.

National Eels League

Do u want know what is even more bullcrap about the eels Hollywood show

Is that the nrl have upped the crusher tackle charges, which means if a member of your team gets put on report for a fake crusher tackle incident showcased by a Slimer, u couldn't be looking a a 1 or more match ban

No it wouldn't...its a disgrace to the game.....

98% of the time the ball carrier puts himself into that position.

I'm happy for them to stamp out crusher tackles.
But if the ball carrier backs into the defence and then sits down what do you want the defender to do?

What should be the punishment for players faking crusher tackles?

A defender can't be suspended for an attacker putting themselves into that position.

And they shouldn't be introducing this 3/4 of the way through a season.

I know it's a grand assumption, but you would have to think that someone within the NRL would be clued up enough to work out that with the sudden upswing in crusher tackles in eels games that the eels are milking in every game. Have any of the eels players required medical treatment?
Maybe if they continue milking without any real medical repercussions, the NRL will declassify the penalty because nobody is really getting hurt in crusher tackles.

All that showed me last night is that Parra could only cheat their way to 2 tries against an understrength Melbourne side. They will need the refs to carry them home in the finals.

The Putrid Eels appear to be getting a bit of a leg up this year just like the pride of the league back in 2014.

Surprise surprise, the two storm players who were on report for ‘crushers’ got cleared. In fact an eels player is being suspended for a crusher, but it wasn’t a penalty because he didn’t hold his neck like a cat

Really shows the ref has no clue about what Is or isn’t a crusher and only do it when someone holds their neck. Stupid ass rule

Immediate crusher tackle crackdown to halt "concerning increase"

Crusher tackles will now draw a minimum one-game ban as the NRL attempts to curb a "concerning increase" in the dangerous tackling technique's use.

The ARL Commission has announced a separate 'crusher tackle' charge has been added to the game's judiciary code effective immediately after head of football Graham Annesley flagged several grade one offences this year that had not resulted in suspension.

Annesley identified 18 crusher-style tackle charges this year, equating to more than one per weekend of football.

The base penalties for crusher tackles will now be 200 points for a grade one, 350 points for a grade two and 500 points for a grade three.

Under the NRL's judiciary code 100 points makes for a one-game suspension, with any offence deemed more serious than a grade three categorisation referred directly to the judiciary.

Previously an early guilty plea to a grade one crusher tackle-style offence would see a player escape suspension if they had no carry-over points.

"We have seen a concerning increase in the crusher-type tackles in recent years and the [ARL] Commission has approved stronger deterrents to reverse this trend," Annesley said.

"Crusher tackles are dangerous and carry with them the real potential for catastrophic consequences to the tackled player.

"Despite the charges and warnings previously imposed, we have not seen a decline in offences, so it has become clear that the penalties we had in place were not sufficient.

"While we never want to see players suspended and would much prefer the offences do not occur, we have a responsibility to strike the right balance between deterrence and punishment.

"This is a serious player-safety issue and the changes are supported by the Rugby League Players Association."

RLPA chief Clint Newton supported the move on behalf of the union but called for further education around the dangerous tackling style from the NRL to clubs and players.

"It is important that we continue to raise awareness across the playing group about the potential consequences of crusher-style tackles," Newton said.

"We are supportive of the proposal as we believe it will help in achieving this, however any change endorsed by the commission should also be supported by further data analysis and education programs for players and coaching staff."

1000 point fine if you are caught faking it or jumping backwards once on the ground Maika Sivo .....

And if they need it they will get it ..once they get the eels home it will be the Warriors and then the Titans

Then it will be our go ...I'm only 51 but I don't like my chances of seeing us winning a premiership before someone put a stake through my heart

During last nights game the refs were so busy trying to spot the next eels player rubbing his alopecia spot, they missed the side show. Mitch Moses juggling two balls in the air .

At least they're good at it. Eels are embarrassingly obvious, and it looks like everyone is now starting to pick up on it.

I’ve been vocal about the crusher tackle rule since 2018. The entire rule was a knee jerk reaction to will chambers crusher tackle he did. Since then we’ve not had anything close to that but about 1000 milked penalties from it

He was airing his beef curtains ?

I think the NRL are caught because real crushers are very dangerous and they have to show adequate duty of care with emerging risks, same with concussions.

It will probably end up falling on players to learn not to lean into tackles with their chests when opponents are backing into the tackle. They'll have to learn not to give the opposition the ability to claim crusher, real hurt or not, and I think the NRL has no problem with that being something for the players to learn.

E.g. NAS last night, he's so tall, he doesn't tend to lost his feet his tackles when he is the one holding the attacker up, so several times he was able to lower the attacker using his arms only. It ends up like a flanker's rugby tackle, and he has a rugby background, where you keep your feet and lean over the ball, and the attacked falls between your legs.

Undoubtedly the Eels claim every possible neck pressure, they did it to good effect against us as well and it's the same blokes every time, everyone can already see this and everyone knows who we are talking about.

I've just realised that, judging by their behaviour, they are not eels at all, they are milkfish, Chanos chanos.

I think they should not give a penalty unless the player is stretchered off but double the judiciary penalty. Players won’t milk if they don’t get an advantage.
