How many games have we lost based on goal kicking ? Genuine question because for all tje importance of points it usually mayby costs you 1 game per season between 65% and 80%. The sharks last year being the exception when they lost 4 or 5 based on goal kicking alone but cant remember any this year we have lost based on goal kicking

I had a look back at last seasons stats earlier on this year. Our conversion rate of 69.6% was the worst. League avg was 77.3%.

We would have finished 7th with a league avg conversion %. Can't find my full analysis, it's buried way back in one of these threads

We did lose some close ones. There was one against the dogs when Moma had a relatively easy shot to send us into extra time. The momentum was with the dogs so we will never know. Bennet has said he doesn’t go to the market looking for a kicker, but if he picks up a talent and he can kick, then it’s a bonus.

Round 4, 2019, vs Penrith: 0/2 conversions, 0/1 penalty goals, 0/3 field goals. Lost 9-8 when the Panthers only scored one try in the last minute. From memory, all of the kicks were within the 10m of the post, yet Cleary kicked his from the sideline.

Round 10, 2019, vs Melbourne: 2/3 conversions, 3/3 penalty goals. Lost 24-22.

Round 16, 2019, vs Roosters: 1/3 conversions, 1/1 penalty goals. Lost 24-16.

Round 21, 2019, vs Canterbury: 1/3 conversions, 1/2 penalty goals. Lost 18-16.

There are four games, where if we only win one of them, we make the eight.

End results are based on momentum swings in matches. Kicking accurately early can set the tone for the match.

Leading 12 -8 instead of 10-8 could prevent a penalty conversion and allow the opposition to level up. It's a different mindset playing from behind & infront.

Also scoring the first 2 tries in the match without conversion 8-0 really allows the other team back into the game.
