Improvement

Thanks TYGA - In 2006 JT took over Parramatta from Brian Smith half way through the season and took them from 2nd last? To the finals with 9 straight wins.

No worries Jason happy to assist. Make sure you sign David Faalago for next year.

The delusional comments regarding JT are getting old. Look at the ladder or read the papers and tell me that he is a good coach. Its been a terrible season and JT has been right in the middle of it all.

I'm prepared to give the guy a chance for a bit longer and accept he is learning but drop the spin. Its freaken embarrassing.

A fairly good year - yeah right.

Again, What is the difference between this year and the 80+% of our existence that we haven't made the finals? Our season has ended in Rd 26 - Just like it always does….

The difference is, This guy is trying to change a culture where failure and mediocrity are perfectly accepted and part of our fabric.
He's come from the other clubs that have laughed at us since we drew breathe...

He's fronting up to take the ugliest sister in the comp to the prom and banking his livelihood on it.

He could well be wrong, And have no future as a coach. But at least he's not hiding behind 600 games experience or lack of board support for excuses...
He will die by the sword if he doesn't get results...

Worst case scenario, We will be between 12th and 16th......... Like every other year!!

- I'm sorry...... Bar 3

Sorry?
What a load of crap!
You talk about building a culture, we have destroyed our culture in less than a decade and your trying to explain how a negative boring coach should be applauded because his changing what???
Our culture is to have attacking flair?
Only thing we need to do is improve our defense not destroy it…
Where always looking to others, roosters, melbourne etc. they have money not culture, thats what makes us the WT's ,
We need to look at ourselves not mirror another club.
Thats why our coach and management stink.
This year most fans heart broke because they broke our culture.

I'm sorry, you're correct.
Our culture IS attacking flair…..

As well as losing, no accountability and never making the finals.

Everything off the field JT is doing what's needed to be done.
Everything on the field is below NRL standard. He is an assistant coach at best.
That is all

JT overachieved this year. I’d say he’d be more at home cleaning the lavs. at Campbelltown and Leichhardt. At least he wouldn’t have to go too far to develop a gameplan.

Have we improved this year ? We have improved since Taylor ball was thrown out the window. I think moving Lawrence to the backrow was a good decision. I view this season as a waste though because I think the coach stuffed us up too much earlier in the season.

And when exactly did Taylorball start? I assume it has to be season open and that is persisted until at least around Rd 11, when we lost to Cowboys (that infamous game).

We won 4/12 games in the first half of the season and 4/12 games in the second half of the season. We won 3 out of the first 5 and 3 out of the last 6.

So Taylor's plans at season start and at season end were equally as effective (or ineffective if that is your argument).

Between Rd 9 and Rd 20 we won 1 game of football, with losing streaks of 4 and 5\. I do not believe Taylorball was the sole game plan during this period, nor that an improvement to the season can be attributed to a sudden change of game plans.

Positive football is playing to win. So you have to pass the ball more than one off the ruck. You have to have some attacking plays such as run arounds or like the Tigers try off the long ball from Tedesco.

Again, this is not personal, but what you are saying is too vague to discuss in detail. I'm not going to go through each game play-by-play, but to suggest we didn't have attacking plays during our losses, or during our worst run, is not realistic. And if your memory of those games is that we only took hitups for 80 minutes for many games, I argue that is an inaccurate memory of those games.

I'm not saying that JT has it right, but as fans we really don't know what the game plans are, we only know the execution we see on the field.

Just to clear this up. I personally am judging JT on the teams performance and his spin. We might not know exactly what he said to the team when the camera wasn't recording but we can have a fairly educated guess.

Its pretty clear to me what game plans JT put in place for a fair chunk of the year and even his supporters admit that was the case. It failed and he should be judged on it being a complete failure.

Sorry Col I don't agree. It's like my golf game, i can talk a good game but can't hit the ball straight. Taylor knows what the right things from his time under Trent Robinson but he doesn't know how to put them into practice. I don't have the answer to why this is but the tigers should have been far better off this year with injuries not being a problem for most of the year and a reasonable squad.
I know some of the players complained last year that Potter was too much of a nice guy and wasn't barking orders. Taylor is very similar and for some reason the players aren't responding. I had hoped Anthony Griffin was going to be our coach because he is a hard head and the Brisbane player last year loved him. Unfortunately he didn't have the spit and polish Taylor did.

I will tell you Taylor's problem with not getting the structures across….poor cattle to work with ...open your eyes and get rid of the rose coloured glasses.,,inexperience and not up to standard NRL players pure and simple..,.but let the Taylor haters come out in force...

Unless you have been in or are in Taylor's shoe it is best if you say nothing at all, because if in the end he does well with this team, what excuse will they find then.,,

But go on give TT a good reason to keep up the arguement.l

Sure there are a few inexperienced players who are not much chop like Santi, Buchanan and Lovett who to be honest would struggle to make a few NSW Cup sides but there was a fair bit of experience. Take Cameron Smith and Cooper Cronk out of the Storm side and i reckon our roster isn't too far behind. Difference is Bellamy. Our roster was never going to win the comp but 7 players with rep experience playing for their country, Not including Naiqama and Teddy because both Fiji and Italy would take nearly anyone they could isn't terrible. The halves looked good at times but more often than not didn't seem to be playing to the same game plan. We do need structure as we have been lacking for a long time but Taylors defence structure hasn't worked so far. I'm happy for him to have another half a season but if he can't get it right with a year and a half either his plans don't work or he can't implement them properly. I don't know many companies in the public sector who would let a manager have so long to get something right. He would have been punted long ago.

You'd think that with a new coach, the new structures and gameplans would take time to come to fruition, but that we'd eventually see improvement over the back end of the season. This was my expectation for the season.

In reality, our much vaunted defensive focus has actually seen our points against rise as the season has gone on.
We've played games in four batches this season, broken up by the Test weekend and the two byes. 8 games in the first batch, 3 in the second, then 5 and 8 (of which we've played 7).
The points against average has actually increased for each batch (averaged independently): 18.6 for the first, then 22, 25.2 and 27 (with a game to play).

Simplifying it slightly - our points against for the first two batches (lets call it the first 'half') was 19.5\. This was up to and including the Cowboys game, 11 games in total.
Our points against for the second 'half' is 26.3\. This is from the GC game at Leichhardt and onwards, 12 games in total.

This is a hugely worrying trend IMO.

By the same token - our attack has gone from 17.4ppg in the first 'half' to 22.2ppg in the second.
Average differential has gone from -2.2 to -4.1.

Just an update to this after our last game:
Points against ended up averaging 27.6 for the second 'half'. An increase of 8.1 points on the first 'half'.

JT has his work cut out.
