Improvement

The team actually defends as a unit now. Seems like the boys know what the man in and outside of him is doing. They conceded what, one line break?

Yep, Titans were a bit predictable, but they did defend as a unit out wide. I actually stopped saying "oh no" every time Gold Coast went through the hands yesterday.

I didn't quite get there, every time Titans passed it wide I still got nervous. And the game wasn't locked up for me until the second last try.

Best thing about the game was that as a whole unit we were better. Had to be our best defensive effort of the year so far, and attack gelled (not 100%) more often than most times this year. The effort was huge from every player out there. We had some luck go for us and against us, yet we were the team who got through the other side. Lost ET to injury, probably one of our best if not the best defensive player, and we still didn't miss a beat.

Huge game, great effort. :master:

The forwards are actuallly holding their own in recent weeks and when the bench comes on instead of it being a problem the young boys are standing up. Woods is playing less minutes but we are still making good metres giving the backs something to play off when they get their act together.A big improvement from even a few weeks back - the last few weeks should be telling if they can maintain and or improve on current performances. The match up against Penrith this week will be a real test.

Halves still need a bit more work on finishing sets, but it's amazing what happens when you have two blokes playing for the team? Given Mitch and Luke supposedly had this telepathic communication from years of playing together, Tui has had a lot more chemistry with Brooks in the short time he's been here.

Can someone please explain to me what happened with Brooks and Moses?

I just don't get it. Both never gelled together. Brooks was better with Austin, Moses is clearly better with Norman.

Meh. It was good to see Brooks defend and kick well on the weekend. Hope he works well with Reynolds next year.

The team is geeting better but Brooks still struggles to play whats in front of him, when he did he put on a try for MWZ

Here's my armchair analysis of why Cleary's a good coach, apart from what's already been said, if you'd noticed in the first half, like other teams in the past..when Teddy looks like getting the ball in a back line movement a Kamikasi charge's out of the line to pressure him to shut down the play..in the second half, you'll notice how lolo cuts out Teddy on a couple of occasions and put that little kick in behind on 4th tackle..Brilliant coaching, it puts a kamikasi defender in two minds..do I rush up or do I wait?..and a clap for lolo having the talent to deliver on instructions btw just missing out on a cut out pass to Nono that would have made Benji proud.

What makes you think this has anything to do with the coach? This is something that players identify and discuss on the run.

Not every time - and why were they not identifying and discussing on the run before Cleary came?

There has been slight improvement…mainly due to the injection of new talent. Make no mistake, that was still a dreadful game of footy. We have stopped going backwards though so that is encouraging.

Yeah it was a bit of a mongrel game. I haven't seen one live for ages, so if that was a big improvement I'm glad to have missed a heap!

Seriously, the first 40mins could have been good too except for the fact we continually let the Titans off when we had the upper hand. Brook's kicking was very ordinary and our dropped balls while in an attacking position were terrible plays. Being 4-0 was nowhere near where the score line could have been and so the 20-40min period I was waiting for the Titans to pull off a try against the run of play, get the momentum and trounce us.

But the second half was a good effort. They seemed to fix the things they did wrong in the first half didn't have too many lapses.

We still relied a lot on Tedesco to fire things up though. That needs to change.

Lolo has only been there a short time, Cleary is not putting too much on his plate, I believe Cleary had something to do with it..the way it just went from one to the other from first to second half. I couldn't see Lolo just pulling aside Teddy at half time over an orange..it may have been a B plan worked on at training also. You just don't cut out your best player when your the new kid in town treading lightly…Too many knives in town just have a look around here.

This is my whole point, under Taylor the ball always went to Teddy, I used to think to myself back then, why don't they just cut him out once and a while and not always go to him, throw the defence off..against the Titans it was the first time I'd noticed it.
