Exactly Right…..I'm not doubting what you say at all....but if the subject comes up again can you ask the player the first 2 questions...I think a lot of people including yourself would like to know the answer........
 
sheens has publicly stated that royce looks after the bench

i know a balmain trainer and he has told me this is also the case
 
Sheens use, or Simmons use of the bench is the most frustrating part of watching the Tigers play because of this reason as CT has alluded to. The thing that gets me frustrated is that clearly the players want to win the game and obviously the coach would too, so why not be flexible in using the bench and adjusting interchanges to suit the conditions and the way the game is unfolding??? Keeping it set to a strict framework generally does not work.

Be nice to see this change in 2010 but it sounds like we may be complaining about the use of the interchange bench a whole more for awhile yet.

Someone once described players in general when discussing off field behaviour, to get to the top you need to know what you want and be forthright & headstrong as well as be a handy footy player, same for coaches….with such strong personalities over the course of an entire season, its never always going to be smooth sailing....

As much as I HATE to confirm anything CT claims… I can confirm that the conversation took place as I was there. So you are a bit off in claiming it was between "2 people over drinks" CT.

So to the doubters this story is a fact, and trust me I would love to prove otherwise as I am not a fan of CT myself.

I must say it was very dissapointing to hear what this player was saying, but it does explain a lot. And I certainly hope that things change next season, I have had it with the frustrating choices on the utilising of our bench of past.
 
So how many were there?
2, 4, 8….whats it matter, its way more public now than it was before, the nets tentacles reach all nooks and crannys of the globe....get the point now?
 
It was a 3 way convo. That is why the name of the player will NEVER be revealed on here.

But anyway, this isn't about the player in question, it's more about how the interchange bench is being used..
 
Interesting, so we've had players sitting on the bench for 70+ minutes, and they knew there were going to be sitting there that long if no one got injured? that can't be too good for the morale of the team

Yeh…all three of joe public, actually 2 joe public and one dissatisfied senior nrl player - yep, your mistake.
 
It was only the 3 of us, and there is no way the player will be named. But the conversation did happen and the conversation has never been discussed outside of those 3 people until now.

The point of this topic is that there is a very stale and stubbon way our bench is being used that not only the fans seem upset about it but also some players.

And that is why folks the WT seem to be losing more than they win. The Top 8 system is pathetic enough that to play semi finals footy you can actually lose more than you win and make the 8.
So a 50% win ratio can almost guarantee you a berth in the semis, yet teams with such talent for the past 2-3 years can still not get over a 50% strike rate is unnacceptable regardless of how injuries have struck. Injuries hit EVERY team in the NRL, some teams worse than others in certain years so that is also an unnacceptable excuse in any regard. The prostituting of the home ground advantage has not helped the WT cause either, but at least the club is slowly making amends in that department, and we can all accept the fact of $$$ being a factor for the survival of the club, so it is a neccessary evil for the next few years until LO and CS can be at an acceptable level for the modern game.

Another bench moment i recall which left me scratching my head this year was, why in hell David Gower on debut was left on the bench for so long to have a peck of the scraps of a match which the WT had under control against the Bulldogs. He got crap gametime and was played out of his usual positions and barely got to showcase his talent or abilities. And now i know that the interchange times are virtually set in concrete, it all makes sense now…

I don't see the big deal about all of this. Who cares if a player said something? Alot of players wouldn't agree 100% with what the coach decides. Robbie Farah was quoted in the paper the other day saying that he had been concerned with the recruitment we had over the last few years and that he had shared his concerns with Sheens about it many times.

well, when this happens again next year (I think it's more of a when rather than an if) at least we'll know what's going on…. not that that will help during the game when everyone else is screaming for an interchange though
