I can’t recall a time that he’s got the interchange right. Absolutely clueless.

Why have Blore play 14 minutes? If he’s not ready for more minutes then don’t play him.

It's unacceptable.

Madge is as bad as the on field imbeciles.

Madge’s coaching last night mirrored Talau’s on field performance

Yep.
Incompetence everywhere.

Maguire owns this and needs calling out !

RD05 v Cowboys
Interchanges used: 6 (!!!)
Time of last interchange: 68:33 (stefano off for musgrove)

Wasn’t the excuse for not getting Tamou back on due to having no more interchanges left?

Roberts came off injured in the last minute vs Raiders. That was where he re injured his Pec having just the following week off. Before returning to play each week clearly injured.

Yeh figured mustve been that in raiders game

For the cowboys game Madge just said 'Thats just how the game went' in a really defiant tone

Minutes used for both benches

Warriors: 145 mins
Tigers: 111 mins

No wonder we always look so gassed

How's this for a damning stat too

This for me is the biggest problem, Madge has no idea how to use the bench. Completely robotic, 2 middle forwards after 20 minutes and the others sit there.

Liddle played well, but was out on his feet the last 10-15 of the first half and Simpkin was sitting on the bench. Bring him on, after 10-15 of the 2nd half have both your quick dummy half players on before taking Simpkin back off.

His use of Blore is criminal. If he is not going to get significant time, have him playing reggies to get some match fitness, how many minutes has he played in any grade all year??

Luciano should not be asked to play 80 on the edge. Give him some time in the middle and a breather.

I have been calling this out for a year, but nothing changes. I cannot fathom how Madge is rated a quality NRL coach. Anyone can win a comp in England with one of the powerhouse teams. He inherited his souths side from Lang & Richardson, pushed them over the line & then over a cliff.

Take the UK out, what is his winning percentage as a NRL coach at the moment?

I'm more concerned about getting the balance of players on the field right..who's on with who..

Have been wondering about this for a while so had a look at the match records for this year. Im guessing amount of interchanges allowed is still 8? (Please note all figures below are regulation interchanges, not counting HIAs or 'Free' interchanges from foul play)

RD01 v Raiders
Interchanges used : 7
Time of last interchange: 79:25 (roberts off for stefano)

RD02 v Roosters
Interchanges used: 7
Time of last interchange: 66:22 (garner off for liddle)

RD03 v Knights
Interchanges used: 8
Time of last interchange: 72:55 (mikaele off for musgrove)

RD04 v Eels
Interchanges used: 7
Time of last interchange: 68:31 (mikaele off for liddle)

RD05 v Cowboys
Interchanges used: 6 (!!!)
Time of last interchange: 68:33 (stefano off for musgrove)

RD06 v Rabbits
Interchanges used: 7
Time of last interchange: 69:47 (stefano off for mikaele)

RD07 v Manly
Interchanges used: 7
Time of last interchange: 73.38 (luciano off for stefano)

RD08 v Dragons
Interchanges used: 7
Time of last interchange: 67:38 (seyfarth off for tamou)

RD09 v Titans
Interchanges used: 8
Time of last interchange: 76:47 (twal off for mikaele)

RD10 v Knights
Interchanges used: 7
Time of last interchange: 68:34 (luciano off for garner)

RD11 v Warriors
Interchanges used: 7
Time of last interchange: 72:36 (simpkin off for liddle)

Granted im only really looking at the last interchange per match and not trawling through all interchanges. But theres a few questions to be raised here:

- Whats the gameplan involved with not using all interchanges here? Is it about keeping one up the sleeve in case of injury? Does the coaching staff think that after the first lot of second half interchanges are done, only one person needs to be removed/injected in the final minutes?

- During the rabbits game, i could tell at the time that if we just had some fresh impact off the bench in the final 15 we could have really done some damage in the final minutes, but we only brought on one man, and even going into golden point considering we had one sub up our sleeve, we didnt bring a fresh player on, whats with that?

- Only 6 interchanges in the cowboys game is baffling.. no idea what happened there. You could basically call the raiders game similar, no idea why they did a switch in the final minute.

- 5 times we've made our last sub in the final 8 minutes, only 1 of those games we won

- Tonight we left blore on the bench till the 65th minute, then only used him for a couple of runs

They need to get smarter. Hes been diabolical with his rotations in past years too. It does us no favours at all. Blame the players all you like... but what is the actual gameplan here

Great post.

big Luc gets tired EVERY game and stops moving up in a line...his D side gets slaughtered, yet Madge keeps him out there 80 mins almost every game. Last night we had our best defensive back rower in Blore sit there almost all night. Madge's bench use is from 2014...he has not adjusted at all.

its a bit of deck chairs overboard, knowing who will b there week2week

does the team have any set moves,only1 i can finger is get stuck in the middle and shuffle it left right left right give a surrender takle

Can't we get special dispensation from the NRL to just play all 17 at the same time, but I suppose opposition teams would still be able to create an overlap.

Maybe he’s trying to get some fitness into the Leilua’s keeping them out there. ?

Based on this weekend I think the bench game plan is to prime some of our younger players for KOEC by giving them 14 min stints in first grade.

We could start Noffa in the middle and see if he runs to the wing

It depends on everything

Scoreline ...how many fans are booing at that exact moment ....how hot the showers are at away games ..... who has to stop Packer leaving the game early

It's very complex seriously ...winning .....losing chasing a big deficit .....HIA's .....day game ..night game etc etc etc

you forgot the flavour of the popsicles at half time, usually a massive contributor as well

get them some strawberry milkshakes

gold.
absolute
gold.

It seems like Madge has already given up on this season and is using the games as practice. The time a player spends on the field is only so they can gain experience within a specific role.

Was Talau auditioning for a role in a comedy?

The interchange in the 79th minute v Canberra was because Roberts had stuffed his shoulder

If you stop and think for a while instead of letting emotions get in the way....maybe Madge is slowly honing the young guys to prepare them for NRL ...he is patiently building a platform of youth and experience to become a very competative unit by 2022...I can see what he is trying to do as well as clearing the deadwood from our roster...it all takes time and Im preapared to see the outcome at the start of 2022 before I write this club, team coach and players off....most reasonable business people would think the same....Im not being critical of you kazoo you made a very valid point...
