Wait so if Benji throws a wild pass out on the full or Beau is getting dumped towards the sideline and he chucks the ball but ends up going over the sidleine, that would be a penalty??

@Balmain Bug said:Alan Jones is correct. He is not wrong at all. I have the rule book here right in front of me and it states throwing the ball out from within the confines of the field of play deliberately is a penalty to the other side.
<big>**But**,</bigthe NRL will argue that throwing the ball backwards is permissible (its not).
And throwing the ball out forwards is a penalty, which it definately is anyway.
That is what Robert Finch will say, I bet you $100000000000000.

The rule book I have is a referee's examination book for **2009 which I got for my coaches ticket.**

My first thoughts as well. As usual I think Jones has it arse-up… Sounds like one of the 30,000 union rules. I have NEVER seen anyone penalised for doing this in an NRL game.
@redemption said:The NRL interpretations are the rules nowadays - not the rule book!
Look at the separation "rule" - it is not in the book!!
As such - Jones is wrong!!!
@Yossarian said:Could someone who agrees with AJ please cite what rule they are referring to?

Yes, Bug or KS…I think KS is more defending AJ  how embarrasing, than debating the rule
@Spartan117 said:This is Wrong according to the boys on 2SM talkin sport. The only time this would be a penalty is if their was an intentional forward pass in the mix.

but that would be because an intentional forward pass is a penalty in the first place

Jones is right, and id summons a guess that he would be right a lot more often than he is wrong….........compared to those bagging him that is
@Leroy The Tigers Fan said:How did Jones ruin Balmain?, everything I've ever read suggests that he bought a lot of sponsorship dollars and benefactors to the club, this is why they were reluctant to sack him and WHY Souths couldn't wait to snap him up.
He may have been an ordinary coach but don't hold that against him, Wayne Pearce took over from Alan and with a similar roster and look what happened, the old wooden spoon, not something that we ever were fond of!.
If he has nothing worth listening to then why is he one of the hightest paid commentators in the Country :unamused:

Leroy, he may know how to get ratings but he was a dud RL coach. He had a very good squad and couldn't make the finals. My sum up of the Jones years is this: The year before he coached we made the finals, the year after we came last. Pearce had to pick up the pieces after AJ left the club in ruins.
As someone who sat through the Jones years I agree whole-heartedly with the earlier post. He was a disaster and forced legends like Freeman and Jack out of the club. He played favourites, lacked an understanding of the game, and his tactics were flawed. Even Souths didn't have him as head coach and they were hardly world-beaters themselves when he was over there.
