In the aftermath of the Super League War when existing clubs were being forced to merge or outright killed off, it was decided a new team would join. And not only that, it was a prerequisite that this team HAD to be a success (ie it couldn't be another South Queensland Crushers etc.). And this mandatory success element has been carried out, as proven by the Melbourne Storm winning the premiership in their second year, and hogging a Grand Final spot for five of the most recent seven years. But here's the thing which really caught my attention - I was listening to a sports show on the radio and if I heard correctly, the Melbourne Storm as a club still aren't self-sufficient, meaning if it wasn't for money flowing in from outside the club they wouldn't survive. Legitimate feelings of discontent, or just jealousy?

Yep IMO it is fine to hate the Storm. Sure they have had some success but the reality is a majority of it was obtained through cheating, deceit and outright lies.
If the NRL really wasn't so obsessed with having a successful team in Victoria they probably would have entertained the idea of kicking the cheating bastards out of the NRL for good. (and they would not be missed)

they're boring.

Unfortunately remember what Phil Gould said in commentary one time, "Winning is never boring". I'm sure their fans are happy.

And btw, the complete title of this thread was 'Is it fine to particularly dislike the Melbourne Storm, or is it tall poppy syndrome?' Sorry, it was my first post on the forum.

There is certainly some tall poppy syndrome at play with peoples attitudes to the Storm. That being said they did perpetrate the biggest rort in RL history and for that many will never forgive them and rightly so.

Personally I found the way they have handled their footy after the scandal to be admirable and there is no doubt that they can turn a good player into a great one. I like watching them play and I respect their no nonsense attitude to footy. They are tough and they are skillful…they can play any style of footy depending on their opposition in any conditions.

I doubt find them all that boring. Yes they play conservative footy but they still have the ability to score creatively. Want a boring side, look no further than the Dragons.

you can disklike storm if you desire.

for me, until the day I die, and as long as blood pumps thru my heart, I will despise Manly :imp: .
I've held a grudge against them since the 70's and won't ever back away from it. :smiling_imp:
