Is it just me or is there a BUZZ in the Air?!

I hope I am not the only one but…....is there a Buzz in the air?

I believe that this year unlike the last few we have depth, experience, an abundance of talent and the most important thing….**HUNGER**!

We have so many players with a point to prove:
Tuqiri-Wants to show that he is "That" good and belongs amongst the Elite in the NRL. (ORIGIN)
Ryan-Wants to show that he belongs out there on the wing and can post plenty of points in the absence of TNT.
Ayshford-Will want to play well to cement his centre pairing with Lawrence
Marshall-Wants to show that he has matured and is a Leader! NZ Captain
Moltzen-Wants to excell in the No.7 jumper and push for NSW selection. The door is still open!
Galloway-Wants that Blues jersey….BAD!
Ellis-Will want to cement his status in the NRL as a hard, skillful forward in both defence and attack!
Farah-Wants the Blues no.9 jersey back and make it his own!
Cayless-Has a point to prove that he can be back at his devasting best as a forward.

That's just a few. Not to mention the Australian coach who will want to end his Finals drought with his club team and a fitness and strengthening coach who wants to show that he to belongs amongst the elite when it comes to conditioning players and getting them ready to tackle a Premiership.

Plenty of personal motivation this season, hopefully they can feel this positive energy too and make 2010 a real season to remember for all the right reasons!
:wahoo:

Every year the buzz in the air I feel becomes less and less. I'm taking it as it comes now. So sick of expecting so much and seeing them fall short.

After the disappointments of 2006 & 2007, the last few years have certainly been pre-seasons of 'non expectations' for me, personally - as a Tigers fan you end up teaching yourself to never expect too much in a pre season build up.

**BUT** I must say, this season I have been more excited about the start of a season of any season I can last recall. Half the squad has been cleaned out and alot of promising new recruits have been signed. We have some exciting talent coming through the lower grades. This is a different side and perhaps it's the beginning of a different era?
If the Tigers can match the hype & expectations that is expected of them (and more), then I'd say we have turned a corner in which we finally lose some of that 'meh, we've lost again, and we were kinda expected to lose' culture from the club and build ourselves up as a real heavyweight for the next five years.

It feels Stephen Humphreys has certainly got us moving on the right foot thus far…here's hoping it continues in this forward fashion.

When was the last time we won a trial match v NRL opposition?

The Wests Tigers Machine is starting to gather momentum and its about 4 years in the making.

The Back office is starting to really produce the $$$ to allow Operations and recruitment to benefit… I credit the pas two ceo's and their teams aswell as Humph...

Sheens and his senior players are in a position to produce the resolts that WE and THEY want without excuse now.

Not Long to go....

Didn't we beat Souff's in the RTR clash last Year…..Oh you said NRL opposition

excited buzz in the air?? yes yes, yes
expectations, to be honest, not to expect alot from TNT as his injury may take some while to be recovered from.
as for remainder of the new look squad, as stated previously, hunger and attitude will determine how the season goes.
yes injuries do play some role in then end result.
all teams get injured players.
some cope beter than others.
there is no reason why wests-tigers cannot make the top 8 this season.

Top 6 for me in 2010 - We have all the ingredients to ensure we dont just scrape in this year.

Every year every club has a buzz in the pre-season. We'll find out in a few weeks whether it equates to something substantial.

I certainly feel more excited heading into this season than any other since 2006\. And that is because this is the best side we have feilded possibly in our history IMO and we are genuine title contenders.

In previous years i've "hoped" for a good season, this year i truly believe we can win the comp. The addition of Tuqiri and Cayless and the improvement we will see in Moltzen,Ayshford,Lawrence,Dwyer etc and the class of Marshall,Farah can't be ignored.

We should go okay, but I know from years of experience, the more we promise the less we deliver. Anyway I will wait and see where we are at after about eight weeks. You know they are saying the same thing on 15 other nrl web sites

Ive learnt not to get to excited ,every year since 2005 ive been excited and thought this is the year we can make a serious crack at the finals only to to come unstuck, but surely this year is our best chance any team that has the like of Farrah, Marshall and Tuquiri as well as our exciting young guns coming thru should be excited.

I look at our starting 17 and on paper I think it is Top 4 material. Farah and Marshall in the prime of their careers. A forward pack containing brutes like Galloway, Ellis and Cayless. The power and pace of Tuqiri, Lawrence and Tuiaki. And the young talent of the likes of Moltzen and Ashford. However it is not as simple as that as we all know.

* Like 90% of NRL sides today a long term injury to a key position player and your year can fall apart. God forbid Farah miss 12 Games, could we make the finals, unlikely. Not to say we are a one player side, its just that sides these days with the salary cap have little depth to counter injuries.

* Momentum from one season does not automatically carry on to the next season. Sure our run at the back end of last season was pretty impressive. However it did include a large number of wins against the bottom feeders like the Sharks, roosters, Cows and Raiders. When we were tested in our 2 biggest deciders against Parramatta and the Titans we fell into our same old hole.

* T Sheens. Would be fair to say he has made a number of puzzling decisions with selections, interchanges and tactics over the past 4 seasons. Im sure there will be a few more of those this season.

* Losing culture. Unfortunetly over our 10 years we have only had 1 winning season. I reckon over the past 4 seasons we would of lost the most games by between 1-4 points of any side. Until you learn to win those games, its hard to get over the line. You could tell at times when we get in situations with 10 to go, the demons and the nerves are there from so many past scars. Clubs like the Bulldogs and Broncos win 75% of these games.

–---------------

So I think we have a fair bit of baggage there. And with the added expectation from the media there is certainly pressure there on all to perform. Alot of these coaches and players and staff have been around the past 4 seasons of failure, so therte have to be doubts in their own heads.

I look at the side and I think we should be a powerhouse and we have the talent to win the premiership. However its a pretty even competition and we can't afford to drop those close ones every year. We start picking up even 50% of those verdicts and we will make the finals no worries, as we will have our fair share of easy wins.

Eddie–your late night summary is pretty much right on the money. I think the scars of the past four years is keeping my hopes in check. Although being a negative beast by nature, Iam a little more optimistic than in years gone by. Anyway by the end of April we should know if we are contenders or pretenders

Except why is he worrying about injuries to Farah…noble as it is.....Fitzhenry...plenty of experience there.....
