Is it just me

Hi all, is it just me or does it seem to anyone else that our season has once again been derailed? This time it would seem that our own management is the culprit. If all the talk is near the money then forcing players who want to stay, out, and keeping players who want to leave, half way through the season, just doesnt seem too bright. How can they expect the players to play with any cohesion at all. As if we havent had enough dramas with our horrendous injury toll ( once again ) and poor refereeing. We just get ourselves into a position where we can launch a serious assalt on the finals and then the wheels fall off and instead of building the back half of our season we are left scrambling to salvage whatever we can. Does this sort of thing happen at Barny Bennett coached clubs? I think not! As a loooooong suffering magpie/tiger suporter I feel dissapointed that the talent we have at the club doesnt get a chance to shine because of these sort of distractions.

The so called talent has had years to shine but has not lived up to its potential so time to make changes, management is making the hard call so that our future is not the same as our previous few years.

Who you rather hang on to the boys that have not performed or keep the young talent coming through the grades that are showing enormous potential? You cannot have it all your own way.

As you say your a long suffering magpie/tiger supporter so you should be able to do another season standing on your head if thats the way it pans out.

Sheens deserves a lot of blame here. A large majority of the squad hasnt improved or evolved since their debuts.

We had the chance to create a dynasty ala broncos….instead we failed miserably.

Changes are due but the coach should have been at the top of the list.

Just cleanout the joint and deal with it like all other clubs do put the right roster together who dont get upset by this so called disruption like any business just get on with it !

My concern with doing this is the Salary Cap. Its pretty clear approx 35% of our Cap is used on Farah, Marshall, Lote & Ellis, but this only equates to 16% of the player roster. Then you add players like Lawrence, Galloway & Heighington who are all 300k plus, taking us to using 56% of our Cap for only 28% of our roster.

I think at least 1 of our top 4 needs to make way if we are really going to be able to rebuild this squad properly, and I havnt factored in Blair yet….

Its just so confusing what is the right way to go about it!!!!

I tend to disagree. I think our season could be getting back on track with players coming back from injury. The Gibbs/Fifita issue should now be settled. The season also got a shot in the arm last night with the injury to Thurston.

It is all about Balance . Obviously you need a strong 1,6,7 and 9 or they need to be able to combine well . Then you need a forward pack that can get you into areas where your 1,6,7 and 9 can be effective and are tackling machines .
This is where a lot of clubs fall down Buying 6 big name forwards is crazy , you want forwards who can get the job without too much fanfare . Strong defensive centres with a bit of toe and are able to set up wingers
Wingers who can finish with a bit of size to help the forwards make the hard metres . You don't need the best in evey position to do that .
Look at Saints ,Brisbane and Manly In many positions they don't have the best players in their positions but they meld together well We (The Tigers) have to learn this imo

I just feel that last year with a very similar player roster we played a lot closer to our potential than we are now . As for fostering local talent is forcing out locals Gibbs and Fafita realy the best way to foster local talent.

I think people who focus on last years finals series need to remember a few things Penrith ;Heaps of injuries during final series 'Raiders ; Lost there biggest name at a possible turning point in the game , Titans ;Always going to struggle , Manly; Huge injury toll ,No Storm The only three teams with some momentum going into the semis or during semis were Roosters , Saints and Tigers . 2010 and 2011 are two different seasons and we are nowhere near our 2010 season or finals form . And that was with a happy squad .

Yeah exactly Happy when you look back at that finals series we really should have played in the decider by either defeating the Roosters when we had them or the Saints under similar circumstances. We played 3 good games and only won 1 of them. The 1 win was heroic though…Benji and Ellis were busted, lawry came back early from a broken jaw but really you cant compare the current squad to how the boys finished off season 2010.

2011 hasnt acheived anything yet where 2010 run 3rd.

Some people look for reasons to down play last years performance but the facts are we were one game off making the grand final.Who cares about no melbourne and other teams having injuries we have had our bad run of them ourselves

Point was making that trying to compare 2010 to 2011 is like comparing apples to oranges . The comp and its make up will be so different for many different reasons . As much as I would like to finish 3rd again I think we will need a miracle to end up in that position

There can be no question that our performance in 2010 is a world away from what we are doing this year regardless of what other teams are doing. The differance is this year we have decided half way through the year that we must have a so-called cleanout.

Badger- every club is planning for next year we are no different it doesnt mean the players shouldnt put in and bust a gut. They paid enough.Players these days are such sooks

Happy-comparing other teams and different years is like comparing apples with oranges as well but it still happens all the time in here doesnt it.Not neccesarily you here mate

Must planning for next season come at the expence of our currant one?

Badger if they left it to October there would not be anyone else of quality left to sign . Unfortunately has to happen now
