Is The Club Respected?

Oh well, in that case. Definitely gonna concede 68.
inexperienced first grade players like Maka, Tavana, Skelton (older, however only played 30 games or so) , Geyer, Murray, hope. throw in the injuries to key players and than sprinkle that with a team that has only lost 1 game and beat the second placed team last week without their origin stars and it begins to hurt a little less. Still inexcusable, however somewhat explainable, once these inexperienced players lose momentum they will struggle to get it back.

The lack of respect for the club from players and managers is the very reason we have to pay more to attract players, settle for players that are more risk than reward all barriers for building a squad and expansion is only going to make that more challenging.
Benji is the only thing that is holding this club together and if he fails there will be very little appeal to come to this club given its history and current governance.

And yet we are still getting thumped like years gone by.

Benji may bring out the best in our top 13 together but something is very wrong on the next line of players.

Benji can’t do it all but he is accountable to ensure the staff around him do perform, right now it’s clear to say they aren’t yet again.

Also, look who he has around him. No seasoned assistant coaches who have been in the game for years. Just his ex teammates.

The club started setting new standards in december of 2025. The board was sacked and forced the best CEO in the clubs history out the door. The club then signed a rookie coach to a 5 year term - unheard of in the nrl. The clubs marquee signing is leaving 3 years into a 5 year contract. Now we have tier 1 signings saying they have no loyalty to the club, just the rookie coach.

And yesterday, the club showed us what their standards really mean... not only did fans who turned up to commbank not get to see KOE and Flegg play (who were at lidcome oval at the same time), they had their hearts and souls stripped from them in an absolutely pathetic showing where the nrl side lost 68-0.

New standards? Haha ok. 4 players (twal, samuela, douhei and may) are not the reason we lost 68-0. The club is weak, have been for a long time. The few wins we had decieved us into a false sense of reality.

Same shit, different year.

Its a strange coincidence that two of the worst losses in nrl history involve this club and have happened within 3 years, dont you think?
6 of the 9 worst NRL era losses have occurred since 2021 - Tigers responsible for 4 of them. It's like the worst teams are getting worse.

I made a thread specifically to discuss this. Its must be too depressing for people to want to discuss hence the lack of engagement

First of all I'll start by saying Terrells comments have been seriously twisted. He did say at the same time that he loves the Tigers (not just Benji) & that he's grateful for everything that the club has done for him & his family. With how he was treated at the Roosters he understands now that Rugby League is just a business & that players can be released, traded, or moved on by clubs, so he feels loyalty should be directed toward people who genuinely believe in you.

When we have players in their prime comitting to the club long term can you say that the club isn't respected? Jahream Bula, the May brothers, Sunia Turuva, Heamasi Makasini have all announced long term extensions at the club (Fainus are close apparently) all in their prime years when last year you had Galvin walk out on the club & two years ago Stefano rejecting a rich deal because he wanted to be elsewhere. Would a club that's not respected be able to retain their best talent long term?

Guys we’ve just won 3 wooden spoons in a row and have made the finals 3 times in our whole existence. No one respects the club and that’s including us supporting the joint.

Wests Tigers have rarely ever tasted success and the parents (Balmain and Wests) weren’t exactly glamour clubs either.

That last paragraph is going to upset some people 😂😂

I get we are now Wests Tigers but really you can’t deny the past. Our history stands. Atleast back then the Clubs could be described as battlers. Now we are just a joke. Fingers crossed Benji is the circuit breaker.

God loves
Yesterday wasn’t just another bad loss. It felt like a reality check about where this club sits in the NRL. And it made me wonder if we have any respect at all? I’m talking about how the club is viewed by players, rival clubs and even its own roster. Take Luai. He arrived and was supposed to be the signing who changed the culture. He was here to be Batman. Instead, we’re halfway through his second season and what have we actually got from him? Two good games if you want to be generous, and already an announcement that he’s bailing for even more money.

Then there’s Terrell May comments this week. He openly said his loyalty isn’t to Wests Tigers, it’s to Benji Marshall. As long as Benji is there, he’s there. I suppose on one hand, you can appreciate the honesty. However, it seems his relationship with the club actually paying him is dependent on the choice of coach he gets along with. And the worst part, I don’t think he’s an isolated case amongst the playing group. I think most think that way. And the fact the club feels they need to sign their siblings to keep them happy tells me the club has no spine. To me, respected clubs create loyalty to the jersey and the organisation. Players come and go, coaches come and go, but the club remains bigger than any one person. For a while. it feels like we have relied on personal relationships rather than institutional strength. If you’re going to play finals and win premierships that way, hey, whatever works. But we are perennial failures, and this strategy of creating a brotherhood, while it may be good for team morale and creating bonds that go beyond footy. It’s not something that’s going to get you to the promised land all by itself. And it seems to be what Benji has gone all in on, because he doesn’t bring much else to the table as a first grade coach.
God loves Everyone even the Tigers it's just tough love

I was going to buy a friend's grandson a Tiger's jersey for his birthday on the weekend but decided against it that's my cross to carry

Why do that to a child so young so innocent

I completely agree mate. We receive the same grants from the NRL as every other club. So why and how are we so shit?

I really feel sorry for the NRL, who committed to match The Storm vs the WTs in Vegas in the 2027 Season Launch. Save everyone the time, money & effort and give us the Bye again!
Besides Storm are almost unbeatable first up ? What’s it been? 23 seasons ( or so) since they’ve lost their first game of the year.
Let’s play them at CSS, darn sight easier, and cheaper, than everyone flying to Vegas !

What did you think of the squad Pascoe built for 8 years ? Seemed to be struggling a bit there at the end,,,

I was no Pascoe fan.

But they key difference with Richo is that he was very hands on with building the roster. Always has been at every club he has been at and admitted as much at ours.

And the roster was improved under Richo…we were the worst team in decades before that…although still a long road ahead ,.

GNR the thing that grinds my gears the most is no matter who we sign, we just seem to be a stop over. Theres no respect or loyalty to the jersey. Players come till something better arrives, our top players just dont seem committed to the cause, they just seem to look at the joint like its a paycheque. Iv also absolutly had a gutfull if players ruining our season. Last year Galvin, this year Luai. I know he hasnt done anything wrong but iv no doubt a few of the guys are off him. All the talk of being Batman and bringing success to the Tigers and he bails 18 months into a potential 5 year deal. I would be dirty on him bailing, he can go if he wants its the contract we gave him. Imagine though there were no clauses, we have him for 5 years on 1.2 million a year and he doesnt want to be there. Just wish he signed the deal and announced it after the season finishes. So sick of players just using our jersey as a place holder for another, meanwhile us poor fans dont get that choice.
