Is the Coaching Situation a problem with our 3 guys off contract??

Firstly for those that think this is anothr bag JT thread - Have a proper read of it !!

SO lets say JT is here next year.

And we start off the year 4 or 5 from 10 and we are where we usually are. We are not sure still whether JT is a man to take or forward. More uncertainty??

All our guys in Teddy, Moses and Brooks are going to be free to talk to other clubs from Nov 1.

If they don't know what the plan is for the future will it affect our chances of keeping them?? Most big players these days want to know what the long term vision is for the club? Do they believe in that vision??

I know I or 2 of them mentioned they want to know what is happening with the coaching in previous contracts. I know people will see players should concentrate on just playing and forget about the rest. However the reality with some kids these days is different.

Is it at the point where we either back him JT and give him another 1 season on top of 2017? Or punt him and appoint a new coach for 2 or3 years.

DO we have a better chance ok keeping our 3 players that way?

I think it is a fair question at the very least.

Coaching NRL teams is a merry go round .

Of the current mob only 1 is at the same club he was at in 2010

I'd only bet on 3 or 4 being at their current clubs in 2 years time .

I say punt JT ….
But it all depends on wether Moses, Brooks & tedesco feel that JT is the right person to get them playing finals footy ?

Whilst i am not one of the coach Taylor apologists on this forum. Infact i am far from a fan of his abilities as a man manager.
If any of those 3 players you mentioned had a problem with him i think there would already be very strong rumours linking any and all 3 of them with other clubs. I doubt they will wait until round 10 to decide whether or not they realy want to be here.
Personally i think we will retain all 3 regardless of the coaching situation moving forward as long as the money offered is similar to any offered by rival clubs.

Fair post and well argued.

If I was Mark Oneill I would be finding this out right now though.

Be good to have them locked away in the pre season.

Eddie, fair question and im not sure anyone would really know.

I expect that at seasons end, the club will start pushing for Tedesco and Moses to extend. The coach will feature prominently in that and whilst i would usually say the coach is the boss and makes the calls, the coaching appointment will depend on what these kids want. It might mean Taylor is gone anyway.

However, there have been a number of 'extensions' and re-signings' in the last 6 months. I cant help but think internally, the players are happy enough and the media instability is a bit lop-sided due to certain factors.

If the better players baulk at re-signing because of Taylors presence, thats fine. But id like to know which available coach would make them stay on. If there are none available, they might go anyway…..

Having the coach and the big three off contract in the same year probably empowers the players quite a bit.
This is where pascoe will earn his money.

And Oneill.

This is largely how they will be judged.

Brooks most people wojuld like to keep, but Teddy and Moses are musts.

I think it might work against us that the club will be wanting these 3 to sign before they know who will be coaching them in 2018.

Is player retention/ recruitment buckets job aswell? We're not short of managers that's for sure.

I would think as boss of Football Operations that is his main job!!

I could be wrong?

That is my big worry and the reason for the post.

We need to either lock them away in pre season or have a plan for 2018.

Meaning a JT extension or bye bye JT at seasons end.

So you want to sign a coach for 2018 that the players like before the 2017 season starts .

I do not think Taylor is a bad coach and he is not the greatest coach but it would be a bad decision to bring in another coach with positive credentials with the same cattle! If the club was going to spend and bring in another 4 quality players then yes go After another coach next season .
I never understand why supporters think it is ok for players to demand who coaches them this idea is just a road to ruin! And this about Talyor would be gone by round 8 next season if results were not up to scratch well this is really a positive for 2017 .
The club is going to have to bite the bullet and go with Taylor next season ,get the cap in order sign who needs to be signed and then if Taylor has floundered go into the market and sign some quality and a good credentialed coach for 2018 and hopefully from then on the good times roll !

I just think it's bad timing to have the coach off contract at the same time as the star players.

Coaching decisions are generally made at the end of a contract where as the club will be trying to sign the players to new deals well before the end of their contracts.

Moses and Brooks were free to talk to other clubs this year, before they chose to take up their options.

Paul McGregor could be available to coach shortly.

If you believe in the stuff you read on various forums, Tedesco is a big Taylor fan and Moses was not originally a Taylor fan but is starting to come round. If this club is finally going to make the next step and be a regular force in the NRL they need both Tedesco and Moses as one is already a top notch player and the other will be the next Thurston..big call I know Moses is a freak. Without either of them and we are pretty average

I don't think Tedesco Brooks or Moses have a problem with the Coach who has given them the control of the Team…

It will come down to money not necessarily who is Coaching...All 3 have expressed the desire to stay together...Wests Tigers Management are aware the importance of their retention...
