As Insaneinnk pointed out earlier in the week Wests Tigers have achieved their highest number of wins with 15 since inception….A victory against the Titans will see Wests Tigers achieve their highest finish in a regular season as well...

I have also heard Sheens and Farah say that this is the best Squad of players the Club has had at it's disposal to date...

'05 was a sensational ride but I think 2010 will be even better....

On the eve of the finals...

Is the 2010 Wests Tigers a better team than '05?

Are Wests Tigers 2010 better positioned than 2005?

Well punters ....What do ya reckon?

Obviously our team this ear is much more consistent then we were back in 05 but to be honest I personally dont think our team works as well together. I know you could argue we have better players but I just dont get the same feeling I got back in 2005.

Our pack is significantly better this year.

Our overall team is imo nowhere near how good they were in 05\. In 05 we blew teams off the park and we had Prince and Hodgo.

They need to win the comp and then they can say they are better or as good as the 2005 squad. In 2005 we had a better goal kicker (which could be the difference between winning and losing the close games in the finals) and we also had our 1,6,7,9 on fire. It looks like Benji and Robbie have found some good form but I'm not convinced with Brown (although he is improving) and Lui I think will have a good first grade career but obviously at the moment he isn't as good as Scott Prince was for us in 2005.

I cant believe I'm saying this, but I agree with Alien… :astonished:

If we win the GF, only then can they be classed as better, but the 10 Forward Pack is a step above the 05 Pack...

2005 had a different feel to it,

I'm not sure this squad is better - 1,7, is not better.

more depth in 2010 but we had no injuries in 05, so it wasn't an issue.

I'm concerned that this year could fizzle out, a probable loss on Friday will lead to a probable match with the Roosters which a loss could possibily lead to a match with either the warriors or titans away.

Unless they win it, really can't compare. It doesn't feel like they've taken control of the comp. To be honest i reckon if we had made the semis last year we were a bigger chance.

A more consistent side, but hard to compare as Melbourne really ruined the comp. this year. The 05 side's best was unstoppable not sure on this seasons side in comparison but we are well positioned to find out.

This team has been good all year.

The 05 side was only really good at the backend of the season.

Plus, what your forgetting is the overall comp. Would the '05 Tigers team, playing the way they did, have been able to succeed in the 2010 comp. Me thinks not.

I reckon they would.

oh i disagree, i think 2005 was a stronger year than 2010\. The top 3 teams, Saints, Parra and Melb were stronger the top 3 this year.

hmmm, certainly better focused mentally this year than '05, better able to win the close ones and much better depth…..but we haven't really clicked this year.

Hard call, see how I feel after we win the GF

The difference between the two imo….

1\. As someone else pointed out, the 7 & the 1

2\. I dont think weve even gone close to realising our potential this year, to reaching our best.
They were hot in 05, only really defense couldve improved there.

Much better team this year.

We Still have the attacking creativity we were forced to develop due to our lack of punch up front.
But we now have an extremely strong pack, who on top of having size and strength, have Smarts (payten) and endurance (Fulton, Heinington, and Ellis are all generally 80 minute players)

Defensively we are better, granted we still leak the odd soft try, but defensive bunnies such as Marshall, Lawrence (and yes, I know he came along after 2005) and to some degree Farah back then have all picked up their games immensely. There are games this year we have won on defence alone, something i'd never say about the 2005 team.
There are close games we have also won (again, 2005 tigers choked in those games, however they did SMASH more teams than we did this year)

These are the differences between the two teams. 2010 are grittier, stronger and wiser.

Its horses (tigers) for courses teams adapt to the competition they are in and look for ways to be better than their opposition be it 2005 or 2010\. Alien makes a good point about winning the comp first in 2010.

Sorrry dude but I thouroghly disagree with this statement.

You said that this side has been good all year…..we have won more games but as a whole, this side has been reasonably disappointing for the majority of the season. It is alot weaker comp. we've taken advantage of that.

The 05 side smashed teams at the backend of the season, this side is yet to do this consistently.

IMO the 05 side would have secured the minor premiership in this comp. 10 has a better forward pack, but 05 was the better "team".

I'm sorry, but the '05 team would have been crushed by the Dragons, and a whole lot of other teams if it played with the defensive attributes it had. Panthers for one, would snap us (our defence from kicks that year…come on).

Also, do not get confused with momentum. Canberra, perfect example. Are they a great team? No. But they have momentum, so they are a chance at taking the tittle out. We had MASSIVE momentum, the likes of which I've only ever seen in the Eels 2009 effort.

What this years team has proven, beyond doubt, is that we perform without momentum. I'd say we've only had it since the Panthers victory, which is a measle 3 weeks. All those other wins were ugly, wins we would NOT have achieved in 2005\. That side get hits with an injury, it crumbles. It's confidence goes down (alla Penrith, last round) it crumbles.

I'm not saying its a bad team, it won the comp for god's sake. I'm just pointing out alot of other factors people may not be considering.

Far to early to call but on paper Prince and Hogo are miles in front of what we have now but in saying that Ellis is better than any forward we had in 2005\. Iam with Stryker really we have played below par for most of the season, its only been the last few weeks that we have actually looked like a good football team. Anyway we will all know soon
