Its Almost Over

I'm looking forward to watching Tottenham Hotspur new season, which fit nicely in the gap left by the NRL.

Also Spurs are half-decent this year and playing Champions League, so it's nice to follow a team who, currently, provide optimistic vibes and performances.

Ahh the off season. Where we are all hoping next year will be different. The boys are training hard. Forming solid combinations. Learning from last year’s losses. Avoiding off field trouble. Building belief that the new signings will make all the difference. Next year we’ll be playing finals footy. Honestly, I feel more for the squad than for myself as a fan. They are doing the training and going though the motions oblivious that their efforts could go down the toilet in the first ten rounds. Kind of like the this year. Wondering where it all went wrong. Real fans live in hope 🤣
Pascoe is where it went wrong

BUT...to be fair...we are in not much better position than teams around us, eg St George, Newcastle, Titans, Warriors...Perhaps we can get a bulk discount for an overseas end of year trip to Bali... ;-)
I know we have to worry about our own team, but when I look at the bigger picture, I see there are troubles ahead for a lot of other clubs, too..

12th season in a row without a semi final appearance.

Yes there seems some hope for 2023 but as long suffering fans we need actions not more words, like the boys had the best pre season ever. bullshit.

I want to see WT lock up these young stars for future success and hopefully attract established stars to join over the next couple of years.

Really need one home ground and really really need a semi final appearance. Winning two games in a row also is not a big ask.

We need a lot more than young players coming through, we need to ” buy” a finals appearance to gain some credibility in the NRL, open the chequebook and buy Munster , A Creighton and Klemmer ,if we have to cheat the cap to do it, so what, other clubs have not suffered from cap fines, got to do something other than talk

You can’t have lofty expectations like that w/ Fiasco running the show

Fiasco tried to cheat the cap and still failed

Maybe the Storm or Roosters could give us some inside info on how it’s done in return for loaning our players to them

I always wondered, what the hell is a hotspur anyway?

Don't they have a rooster sitting on a ball as their emblem?

Hotspur was a knight - Sir Henry "Hotspur" Percy. He was nicknamed by his Scottish enemies because of the way he would charge into battle on his horse - with "hot spurs".

Spurs, i.e. the sharp footwear, are also associated with cockfighting, so after a few decades Tottenham evolved their emblem into the fighting cockerel that they have today.

So actually not the best emblem ever, based on cockfighting, but neither is a "Rabbitoh", which is technically the guy who sold rabbits to eat, not a happy / dangerous bunny. Also Roosters are sponsored by Steggles (purveyors of dead chickens) and St George actually defeated the Dragon.

Haha, there's some awesome titbits in there mate. Kudos.

The Roosters one is a classic.

Yes, one of the benefits of being a Wests Tigers fan is that I can soon devote my full attention to the NFL. One day we'll make the finals and I'll have divide my time. Until then, Go Wests Tigers.....(Sept) Go Philadelphia Eagles!!
