Ivan Cleary - THREAD..

Im disappointed that no one here has come out and mentioned how great of a job Justin Pascoe and Marina Go did through this whole affair. It was truly outstanding and a defining moment in our history.

When this broke we were very little chance to hold on to him but those guys stood their ground and forced a result.

I'm disappointed so many people made the assumption that Ivan was gone without knowing any of the facts.

Exactly …... lunch mob mentality ......

Lynch mob !

So many people still giving it to Ivan.

He has done nothing wrong. Zip.
Now the same people are saying if we extend Ivan the club is still a nut case?

I would extend him for improving our defense this year alone!

x2

Difficult to believe that Gould was not a part of this or knew nothing (Sgt Shultz???) when, only a few weeks ago he stated that he could fully understand Nathan and Ivan wanting to be in the same team together. Was he trying to soften the blow for the Tigers fans? I doubt that Gould could lie straight in bed. (Mods: Hope there is nothing abusive here  ) Nice to know Ivan is still on the bus.

People say Ivan wont play under Gould. I say if Ivan goes to Penrith then Gould steps aside. His 5 year contract just means a bigger payout for the grub when he pulls the pin.

There is no way known that Gus will stand aside for a coach. He is becoming the Denis Fitzgerald like figure (Emperor of Parramatta"). He won't abdicate his power base for the good of the Panthers - he will want to retain it at all costs.

The past week has shown some really interesting insigths into the Panthers:

1) The chair and GM not communicating about a head coaching role - this seems highly implausible or a significant issue exists between the two.

2) Gus' decision to oust Griffin was based on Giffin's position to be untenable if news was leaked of the coaching offer to Cleary. In my opinion, Gus was looking for any excuse and this seemed like the most expedient method. What he misjudged was the media backlash and Tigers staunch position.

3) Griffin's 360 interview took the Panther's by surprise. Gus went on channel 9 and the media machine went into action. Cirraldo then backs Gus' story to paint Griffin as the "bad guy" and Gus as the hero who saved and protected the Club. The truth of the matter will never be fully known but it is most likely somewhere in the middle.

I see Ivan as having high levels of credibility and integrity. An atmosphere where he feels needs to compromise these ideals to suit Gus will not suit him. Nor will an environment where he is constantly looking over his shoulder and questioning his own decisions.

Ironically, I could see Ivan joinng the Panthers, I just can't see him doing it while Gus is there - and I can't see Gus leaving any time soon,

I watched and i remain unconvinced, Ivan could not have squirmed anymore his body language was like ive not seen from IC.

If i was the board i would be getting Brooks in to extend his contract pronto.

Just genuinely uncomfortable with all the media attention I think which is understandable.

Similar body language to interviews during the whole woods tedesco mitchell moses release saga last year. Imagine standing in front of a room full of how ever many journos trying to get a story and firing questions at you about things you are unconfortable speaking about. Way more comfortable in a relaxed setting just talking footy

This story is looking like a Tarantino film with so many perspectives on the same story. Now the Ivan version.

Ivan goes to a casual coffee with his old mate O'Neil at Penrith. Dave is shooting the breeze about the future at Penrith "Would you ever come back Ivan?" "Yeah Dave I would… but I've got this contract with the Tigers so..." "Undersood mate - flat whites on me..."

Next thing Ivan is at home playing Lego with Nathan when the news comes that Griffin has been fired. Thinks back to his coffee and concludes he better tell Go and Pascoe since I might look bad. Does so. Gets back to deciding whether Luke Garner should start or go from the bench...

Sits at home watching a lot of rubbish from reporting. Can barely concentrate on the playdough with Nathan. Go and Pascoe tell him relax we'll do the press. That doesn't solve the problem entirely. Resolves to do press conference.

Pretty much how I saw it Yoss.

Clearys presser was downright lame ..

He read from a pre written statement lol

He obviously been offered a gig from the Panthers and when Pascoe and the board knocked it on the head he was upset !

That’s why it’s taken him a week to stop sooking and front the media !

Now he’s said he will see out his contract…

What else was he supposed to say ??

When he goes in 2 years you’ll all cry poor why the club didn’t release him

You are spot on, some of the delusionals on here only hear what they want to hear.

Why do I feel like Cleary isn't so innocent in this case?

I think he might be a snake in the grass.
Defo has some work to do to win my respect back.

Start with a win tmrw and I'll see how I feel.

His silence and back room handshakes, secret meetings. Etc…. All doesn't sit right with me.

Maybe the Snakeys are better off together elsewhere.......

…..and so is it any wonder why Cleary waited to address the media? Once the media had fed the drooling throng, he was in a no win situation. I think it speaks more of the characters of those condemning Cleary based on rumour, than it speaks of Ivan Cleary's character.

The worst thing for a coach to be accused of is letting down his players and or undermining another coach leading to his sacking.

Penrith did both of these things to the Cleary family by making matters public. I can’t see how Cleary can go to Penrith even in 2021 it will look like he has orchestrated this whole saga which, I don’t believe is the case.

Taking emotion out of it if I was Cleary I’d be Bri gong Nathan to the Tigers away from the Panthers as I wouldn’t want my son around that sort of unethical, self interested, megalomaniac lord of Penrith that sacked me 3 years ago.

So everyone can RELAX now. Oh and watch this space come off season…...

Is there a reason why you cant just share with us what it is you know or the rumour you have heard?

Wouldn't be surprised to see Ivan stick around beyond 2020…

I hope your right willow….not because ivans a great coach which i dont think he is yet but i want him to prove me wrong....we just need a stable club...we have been through hell as a club...we just cant sustain any more controversy....we now need to look towards strengthening a few crucial positions

Wouldn't surprise me if an extension for Ivan is being looked at …for a guy who has a 45% win record and whist improvements have been made hasn't really proven anything..... would mean we have learnt nothing from Sheens when ironically the same club courted him we shat ourselves and extended only to sack him a year later...

We should keep our cool. Go and Pascoe have handled themselves very well so far. We are in no rush to retain Cleary as coach as we have time to look at our options. We need to keep improving our roster as well.

The days of loyalty appear over.

Well I hope this is the outcome. He has been good for this club.

Yeah, he’s not innocent, and his PC this morning didn’t really put my mind at ease that he was fully invested in the West’s Tigers.
He also said that panthers had not made him an offer.
If that’s the case why all this BS for the whole week.
Why not say last Sunday hey everyone there’s been no offer let’s move on.

Look who's talking. You've been pretty much the same. You only want to say what you THINK went on and it's not even factual.

You've been at him based on rumors. Do you even know the specifics on what went on behind closed doors? No? Well, Time to support the team.

Yep keep improving …see how recruitment goes...then for sure..to do so to stave off another Club or because his son may come would be foolish..

I would be open to another year. Three years is a good contractual arrangement for recruitment, puts the panthers thing to rest and still allows Ivan with the flexibility to move should he wish to team up with Nathan at another club.

West’s tigers forum “why hasn’t Ivan said anything it must be true he’s leaving”

Ivan speaks

Also west’s tigers forum “oh he didn’t say exactly what I wanted to hear and didn’t deliver it how I wanted I think he’s still gonna leave I believe he also had a big part in this and isn’t innocent and is gonna leave and wah wah wah wah wah”

Get a frickin grip. He’s here. He’s staying.
