Ivan Cleary - THREAD..

Lol what was she supposed to say.

Ivan has done a tremdous job since coming on board. It would be almost negligent of us to agree to cut his contract short. He's a big part of the wests tigers future.

The more I think about it, the more I think the writing's on the wall that Ivan Cleary will be leaving us.

Gould has deliberately set the scene for it with the statements over the past few weeks about how he supports son and father joining up. I thought this was odd at the time but seems to make sense now.

I don't think it's any coincidence that there were rumors of Griffin being on the way out while Gould was saying this.

The media is claiming a senior player mutiny, with some players saying off the record that they would have left if Griffin was retained. Maybe Nathan Cleary was one?

Despite sacking him, Gould has never really bagged or burned bridges with Ivan Cleary either. Gould has always said that Cleary's a great coach.

The reasoning around Cleary's sacking at Penrith was that he was "tired", Bringing back a refreshed and more experienced Ivan Cleary would fit Gould's narrative.

It would be a big blow if Cleary leaves. If our CEO and Chair can't keep Cleary, they should be asked to get off at the next bus stop.

Shit, i forgot about that. I remember thinking at the the time how strange that Gus would be so magnanimous about the father son reuniting…i just always thought it would be at Wests, Gus meant Pamfers. Well played Gus, well played.

I really do not like marina go's response. Very cold and defensive.

Yep

Flowery and welcoming more to your liking?

No, just better man and media management. Did that shut the media down? No. If Ivan is thinking of leaving, do you think that statement would help his mindset? No. Sounds like he is just a run of the mill employee.

Can't see it happening.
Seibold or Bennett for mine.
Both Cleary's at the Tigers next year. (No source - just opinion)

If sacking someone isnt "burning bridges" what is?

This is getting silly…Ask yourself if Ivan would consider this ..why the hell would you want him here..

Seems out of character..

Go said the Tigers expect Ivan to see out his contract at the very least. If there’s nothing to this story she could have been stronger:
“There is no truth to the misplaced rumour that Ivan is interested in moving to the Panthers. I have spoken with Ivan and he is very content at the Tigers and is looking forward to the months and years ahead. Any suggestions to the contrary are off the mark.”

But she didn’t say this did she? Hopefully Ivan will

Surely at the very least he has been approached and if so it must give him plenty to think about - he would be mad not to.
It also provides the perfect outcome for his son and family which will figure in any decision he makes.
They are already where we want to be. His son has a good relationship with Gus so dont believe Ivan and Gus can be on too badder terms.
Gus is the man that looks tired atm - might be his time to say I ve done the job and move on.
Whatever the outcome the sooner the better. I like the Clearys but way too much focus on them for too long.

In this Day and Age nothing would surprise me , but if our Board allow him to walkaway with 2 years left on his Contract after sacking JT and all the dramas we've had to endure for years then get Robbie back.
I promise 1 thing the Club will not get 1 single dollar out of me and my Membership will be tossed out if they allow Ivan to go , this Club would deserve to be folded for embarrassing the Brand .

Surely the Club and Board have enough respect for there sponsors and fans 😕

If Ivan quits not much the board can do about it if he takes a job offer somewhere else. Gould hasnt taken this risk for nothing must think he is a chance of luring him back.

Yeah Contracts mean jack this Day and Age unless Wests Tigers approve it he won't be going anywhere , not until 2021.

The only way that he can go if he has a clause in his Contract that allows him to leave if he gets an offer from the Club where his son is playing….that could be the only thing .

Wrong. Contracts mean something if both parties are not willing to amend the terms. If Ivan did want to go and the Tigers wanted to keep him he cannot go. Simple.

Personally I don't think that he will leave. However, I will enjoy watching the head explosions over the next couple of weeks.

I think she would be better off by just shutting up.

Understand the legality side but the result of putting that to practice is not beneficial to anyone. The cut your losses approach seems to be where most of these issues ultimately end up especially in a pivotal role that you are paying big dollars for.

If Ivan dicks the Tigers he'll be the one paying.

I don't think it will come to that. I reckon Gould has a bigger target in mind.

Instead of Go coming out and saying she expects him to stay, why not actually front him straight up and get the answer?? This to me implies that they are waiting for him to choose and IMO is a weak move from the board…..
Cleary goes back to panthers then he will be assistant coach to Gould... any muppet would see that

Can't be Ivan as he hasn't won a premiership yet.

It would be a massive FU to our Club if Ivan were to leave for Penrith - the Club that sacked him not so long ago.

It would also be a massive FU to all the current players and especially key players such as Reynolds, Mbye, Packer, Matulino, etc. after luring them away from their clubs on the promise of building something special at Concorde based on characteristics like accountability, commitment to the cause, and unity.

As much as Ivan wants to work with Nathan some day, I can't imagine him screwing over the Club that has given him an opportunity to resurrect his coaching career and all the current players he convinced to "get on the bus". There are better ways to make the father/son situation happen without doing this to the everyone at the Tigers and reuniting with a club that boned him.

I think Ivan would have too much self respect and too much decency to do it. If he doesn't, then he's not the type of person you want driving the bus anyway. Penrith are entitled to have a shot at getting Ivan across, but surely Ivan says "thanks, but no thanks". Surely????
