Ivan Cleary - THREAD..

He doesn't have a tough family decision to make. He has an easy family decision to make in two years time when his contract with us lapses.

Absolutely. This is getting beyond ridiculous. He wouldnt know a tough family decision if he fell over one.
Father son/ bond - you would think we were trying to get him to move across the other side of the world.
No sympathy here. Give me a genuine reason. A load of bollocks - honour your contract or watch from the sidelines for the next two years then go coach your son.

If it is indeed all afoot I agree with you 100%

What if Blake and Whare don't want to go…MWZ has already signed with them for next year..

I would ask for Cleary and Kikau..that's compensation..

Doesn’t matter what Blake or whare want really.

What a load of crap !

Total load of crap. So many posts where SG acts like he knows something that he doesn’t.

IC not the only one losing credibility

What if we agree to release ivan under the condition that nathan comes to the tigers?

Wouldn't that be a stick it up ya move…

This just gets funnier by the minute - this was in todays Daily Telegraph ;

Ivan Cleary’s reputation is on the line if he decides to quit Wests Tigers for Penrith

IVAN Cleary has spent the past two seasons telling the Wests Tigers to “get on the bus”, now he is considering doing the unthinkable and jumping off himself.

Cleary’s previously squeaky clean reputation could cop a hit if he opts to quit the Tigers to return to Penrith as head coach on a multi-year deal.

The respected mentor still has two years left on his contract at the Tigers, but he wants to join the Panthers to coach his son Nathan.
**Cleary is believed to be seeking a release on compassionate grounds,** which has sparked frustration and anger from the Tigers’ faithful.

The fans believe Ivan should honour his deal and finish the rebuild at the joint-venture club.

Despite the supporter’s fury, Cleary has a friend in 2005 premiership-winning Wests Tigers forward Liam Fulton.

Fulton would love to see Cleary “stay on the bus” after spending the past two seasons using the catchy phrase as a recruitment incentive at Concord, but he also understands the mentor’s desire to coach his son.

It’s why he believes the Tigers shouldn’t stand in Cleary’s way if he wants to take up a long-term contract to coach the Panthers.

“As a Tigers fan it is disappointing if we lose Ivan, but you wouldn’t hold him back if he wants to coach his son,” Fulton told The Daily Telegraph.

“You have to have some sort of compassion there. Penrith have also got a great roster, so good luck to Ivan if he goes.

“To me, if Ivan goes it makes sense.
\
\
The Tigers can’t hold him back, says Fulton.
“Gus Gould is smart and if he wants to keep Nathan at the club, he should bring Ivan across as coach.

“Nathan is going to be a 10-year Origin player and it makes sense to bring in a quality coach like Ivan.

“But Ivan has done an awesome job at the Tigers and turned us around.

“He has made some really good purchases and most importantly he has given Luke Brooks a second lease of life.”

If the Tigers grant Cleary a release to return to the Panthers, **Fulton says the club should sign former prop Todd Payten as head coach.**

Payten lead the Tigers to the NYC under 20s premiership in 2012, while he is widely respected by the current playing group.

“I think Todd has done his time being an assistant coach,” Fulton said about Payten, who has worked as an assistant at North Queensland and is set to link with the Warriors as an assistant from next season.
\
\
Despite this, Fulton believes Payten should sign with the Tigers if Cleary departs.

“The Tigers have a lot of senior players and Todd would be perfect,” he said.

“He understands the culture of the club and he is a very smart man when it comes to footy.

“Todd coached the Tigers under 20s team and he got the best out of them, so there is no reason why he can’t do the same in the NRL.

“I know he would have the full endorsement of Robbie and Benji.”

First part of the article I fully endorse.

Rest of it is just agenda driven crap from a bloke who should know better

Take it with a grain of salt, but have heard Penrith have offered to pay out Cleary's contract, plus an extra 400k as a sweetener. All up could be close to 2 million.

Kings ransom. Player will be involved

400k isnt a kings ransom, what do you suggest is acceptable for a kings ransom?

Not saying you said 400k is correct just to clarify.

Panthers will pay for tigers next coach plus players either via swaps or direct moving.

Example - Blake and whare for MWZ.

Hope you are right and the players we get are the ones we want

I’m loving all of this !
Never a dull moment at the mighty West’s Tigers!

Ivan is and was a crap appointment from the get go !

No loss imo !

As long as they get the money their contract states ?

Was holding out hope but looks like its a done deal.
Just hope Pascoe holds firms and we get solid compo out of it and a few good players that could put us a year or two ahead in development.

To be petty i also hope they have no success out there.

Not only will Ivan Cleary destroy his own reputation and probably damage his own coaching career long term with this stunt, he is probably robbibg his son for $300-500K a year in his contract. Who is going to bother bidding on N Cleary november 1? Penrith can pay him what they want.

This whole thing is bad for EVERYONE except Penrith. Bravo Gus I guess.

I’m sorry but the “tough family decision” line is a cop out. If someone at work tells me that I’m expecting to hear something really bad and would be fully supportive. But in this context it’s manipulative and conniving.

That's it

They are grown men for christ sake

They stil live together

The panthers sacked IC

We gave him everything he wanted

Gave him the opportunity to bring NC across without question if he thought it was worth it

Panthers asked if he wanted a job cos they NC would walk and craps on us without a second thought

Maybe this was his plan all along to get his job back at the panthers

Be funny if Ivan Cleary stays now..

Don’t want him to stay…... the fact he handled it this way and hasn’t given us fans any indication of what he’s doing has changed my views on him massively

Do you think Maloney really wanted to play at Penrith this year? He was on record as saying he wanted to finish career at the sharks. Woods to sharks, Moses to parra, When a club wants/has to move a player, it happens. Why do you all act like this never happens. If Penrith want Cleary and tigers demand players, they will get players. Whether those at Penrith really want to go or not. Tigers probably sweeten their current deals by $50k or what ever as well.

I really don't understand why ppl get so upset with your comments

I can see how it is possible what you are saying and hope the tiger's are smart enough to suck every little bit of juice out of the panthers

Would be but as I mentioned earlier, the key to that would mean we are most likely getting Nathan across also.
If Ivan knew that his son is resigning with Penrith he would fight tooth and nail to get over there but yet he hasn’t asked for a release. The CEO and Chair have done all the talking and have only made comment about Ivan as a coach in regards to his current deal.
They have not mentioned whether he is or not happy to stay, be extended anything.
I think it’s smoke and mirrors for now. Ivan’s stance on it is being delivered via Pascoe. That’s how I see it.

Ok I’m ready to cop flack for this but:

I’m going to maintain my opinion of Cleary and BELIEVE that what he said to the players was genuine - he has a hard family decision to make. Therefore he hasn’t made up his mind. Not saying I agree with his thinking but that it is genuine.

He might stay - but I think any chance of an extension and Nathan coming is gone
