Ivan Cleary - THREAD..

My first post in this 130 page monster.
I wont pretend to know what has gone on in this saga. However I found IC's statement pretty disappointing. As another poster noted, seemed to leave more unsaid than what actually was. I wonder if Ivan and Justin will be as tight going forward.

I only just watched the video of this, thought Ivan was weird. Certainly not his usual demeanour. Seemed to be really upset - whether that was because of all the media speculation, painting him in a bad light or because he won't be able to coach his son for at least another two years, I don't know, but he certainly wasn't right.

Look it's clear that Ivan just went to see a mate at Penrith for a
Cafe Latte that's all
They ended up speaking about Ivan's House and his pet cat
Nathans playing future or Ivan's coaching future were not discussed at all
Oh no not at at
Forget about it it just did not happen
Why would anyone think that
And Gus had no idea about any of this because he was asleep at the time
Gus certainly didnt have any Idea he was going to Sack Griffin 4 weeks out from the finals because every interview with other penrith players and staff backed Griffin to see out his contract
In the end it was Ivan's fault that Griffin was sacked because he had a Latte at penrith and he was going to let Go and Pasco know how good the Latte was
That is why Griffin was sacked 4 weeks out from the finals
The Bloody Latte secret got out
Ah well it's all over now
We can all move on and enjoy the rest of the footy season this year
And look forward to the next two seasons
Now let's make some signings and Get behind Ivan
He has committed for the next two years
Amen

That wasn’t Ivan, it was Weekend At Berny’s
He was connected by ropes & pullies that were operated by Go and Pascoe just out of frame.

My trusted confidential source is saying this is close, but not quite right. Cleary, O'neil, Gould and Griffin were all at the cafe together. It was Griffin's shout for coffee. The order was flat blacks for Cleary and O'Neil, a hot chocolate for Gould and a latte for himself. He came back with Latte's all round. That's why he was sacked.

Congratulations to all of the Ivan Cleary haters!
Congratulations to all the Ivan Cleary haters, who are obviously trained psychologists and can read the truth behind a person's words!
If I was Nathan Cleary and I read your unfounded comments on my father, I would re-sign with Penrith, IMMEDIATELY.
By the way, if you read all of the baseless vitriol in this thread from those finding fault with Ivan not speaking earlier in the week, no wonder he put off speaking out for as long as he could! Following all of the vitriol, I would think that Ivan might find somewhere else to work, when he has completed his contract with Wests Tigers.

Yep! AS I said earlier, it says more about the character of those making the comments than about the character of the man himself.

Guys I still think this could go either way in the off season.

Good to have it on the back burner for now.

Ivan looked angry at this presser. Now that could be anger at the Tigers, Penrith or the media or a combination of everything.

However I'm not sure this is over. Ivan looked pretty edgy and I found it hard to gauge his true thoughts.

So do you think Penrith will go into the off-season without appointing a Coach for at least 2019 or still run with an 'interim' with Gus running it or if they do then sack them before a ball is kicked or a tackle bag belted in anger..

Wouldn't put it past ole Bee sting head…surely 1 among the 12 applications are a suitable pawn..

Agree with both of you.

All league fans are the same… All fan bases are made up of the same personalities.... It wouldn't matter which club he was at.... The responses to the week's events would've been the same if he was coaching us, NQ, NZ anyone

Ivan should have spoken up on Monday that is where the problem started with media and supporters- that delay meant he was surveying his choices hence the comments

Oh please…save your holier than thou judgements of others in regard to Ivan just because you interpret the information different to others, and want to believe he is innocent of any wrong doing in relation to this matter. I wanted to believe that too - but nothing for five days.

All I wanted from Ivan is to demonstrate that the "vitriol" that has been pedaled out about being on the bus that we have been listening to for the last eighteen months still applies to him. There was enough that happened and was reported that questioned that.
Yes we got the prepared statement yesterday 5 days later, but all he had to to was unequivocally deny that he had any interest in the coaching position at Penrith, as soon as the information came out, and story over.

But he didn't - and in doing so what could have been put to bed as misinformation and innuendo, instead resulted in lots of doubt about what his intentions are - that all rests with Ivan, the club, and or both.

So Go was disingenuous with her reasoning during the FOX interview?

Fair enough, I will have a look. Still, it is the content that is important because it is a well prepared statement, not a response situation where tone and body language would be much more relevant, so I would really like to know just what you and others think it actually addressed.

Also, I say this from no fixed position as to the current or future state of affairs.

What is different from today than 4 weeks ago?

I thought the statement was read because Ivan wanted to be clear. It was obvious he has been rattled by this so probably didn’t trust himself to speak off the cuff.

What it addressed was that Ivan will be our coach until end 2020\. That he wasn’t going to break his contract.

Isn’t that enough?

No. It would have been enough at the beginning of the week, but far from it four or five days later.

No ones going to knock on the door and give you an ironclad gaurantee about anything
He’s explained himself, hestill here, and that’s about all we can or should, expect from him ,

Just be prepared for all the nervous Nellies if at a later date, he holds off in signing any extensions,
The Media will be off at a full gallop again,

If you want to call it that…Legal options were being sort to see if any tortuous conduct was undertaken by Penrith to induce the breach of contract...
