Ivan Cleary - THREAD..

I watched the post match presser and was impressed with Russell Packer as he took the heat of the coach. Funny how he was more interested in watching the Storm v Sharks game.

I had a big chuckle at that. But in saying that I don’t know how to take it. On the one hand I think it’s hilarous this bloke just loves footy and gets sidetracked watching another game. On the other hand he’s supposed to be a captain representing the team so looks a tad unprofessional.

I thought he made that comment to emphasise how bored he was by questions relating to Ivan’s future plans. Packer is nobody’s fool.

I'm with your first thought mate. I think after the rubbish that came out of the media this week, to show them a little disrespect was fair enough. Especially after again they were trying to get a rise out of Ivan after he told them to back off. And Packer says what disruption and they both laugh.

Hoping it bonded our team even closer. Under siege, us vs the other teams, the refs, and the media. Vs Gus. Go Tigers…
(couldn't resist putting the refs in again)

So we won .
Couldn’t be happier.
Doesn’t change the fact Cleary would have been better advised to come out earlier and commit..
Can see both sides of the story, but really, would it have been too hard .
Just looked like he was weighing up his options.

Far out - move on.

:deadhorse:

I didn't think that I'd see this again but this thread has thrown up the same sort of abuse that was thrown at Jason Taylor, for different reasons. Just as childish, too.

Anyway, time to move on, nothing to see here except whatever the mind may throw up.

Can only deal with what we know, that being IC staying until the end of his current deal. Time to hopefully move on from this whole situation.

However, the guy still hasn’t committed past his current contract so I still think he is conniving and has his own agenda. Dont you?

Own agenda? Yes, everyone has their own agenda. Conniving, no.

Most of the players and coaches in the game are not committed beyond their current contract.

So if you are going to stick the dagger in Cleary, also line up
Lawrence
Farah
Benji
Mbye
Packer
Matulino
Nofo
Hooth
Twal
Marsters
Fonua
Liddle
Corey Thompson
Grub
etc.

Not one of them committed to Tigers beyond their current deals.

The real question you need to ask, beyond your dumb and unproven comments about "conniving", is what happens if we WIN today?

We've lost 6 of the last 7 against Canberra and they've scored at least 46 points in our last 4 matches. The most we've posted in these 4 games is 12 points, which was the last game and it was 12-10 to us at HT.

We were sufficiently prepared for those games and we all know that the 2016 Rd 26 match was playing for a place in the finals.

So what if we actually win today, what does that say about the "alternative" preparation of this week?

Raiders putting 50 on us is just par since 2016.

I’m happy to be proven wrong Jirksy

No… That doesn't wash.
You need to prove you're right

I’m happy that we won however in the long run I will be the one saying I told you so. Ask Jirk. He knows

You sound like Phil Gould - "let's see who apologises when the truth really comes out". And Beesting sounds like Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon, revising his story in public and on the run, so the name connections make sense now.

Cleary deserves no blame here it’s just a bad situation he was placed in by the Panthers using his desire to do what’s best for his son to their advantage to keep Nathan who they brought through the grades.
I suppose he should have made this statement early in the week but the media
coverage is a storm because of Griffins sacking and Gould throwing him under a bus publicly by stating they wanted Cleary.

Clearys only errors here were not getting on the front foot and his constant stating of wanting to coach his son.

End of story until Nathan makes a decision on his future. The only impact I see is recruitment. Cleary was the drawcard for players and that has to be diminished.

My guess is Ivan Cleary would jump to Penrith at the end of this season if it was possible.
Am not elated or relieved by his "commitment" to honour his contract, as if he had a choice.
Onwards & upwards for the Tigers this season but the seed has been planted with too many variables to predict what will transpire.
The Bus ride was inspiring but we have reached the last stop.
The bus is now busted.
My faith is now with CEO Justin Pascoe & the Tigers power brokers.
Go the Tigers.

What do you expect him to say? He has been consistent with other NRL coaches in terms of commitments. Seibold this morning was reported in the SMH stating that he had 15 months to go on his contract at Souths. He gave no commitment about staying longer. SMH wrote that he has had no contact with officials from Red Hill yet it was reported in the media last week an intermediary had been in contact with him.

And proven wrong you were.

Jirksy, or Jirk as I’ll refer to you going forward (i feel we bond well. Mmmm), I am ecstatic about the result today.

I like many a WT fan was disappointed with IC this week not nipping this in the bud early.

However, the guy still hasn’t committed past his current contract so I still think he is conniving and has his own agenda. Dont you?

Thanks Jirk. Happy to discuss further with you.

jirskyr is one of the least Jirk-like posters on this forum. His posts are always thoughtful and interesting.

You, on the other hand - bit like the pot calling the kettle black.

I dont see how some people expect him to commit _beyond_ his current deal…thats absurd, it just doesnt work like that

Agreed, although I'm not thrilled with how this has played out. You could argue equally that WT haven't committed to Cleary beyond his current deal.

Get rid of Cleary.

He is conniving.

So bad for our prep this week.

Raiders to put 50 on us today.

How you feeling now DT,we won by 2 and didnt have 50 put on us as you hoped…I didnt see a coniving man,I saw a proffessional coach preparing his team for an assault on the finals...

Ivan addressed this situation when he could, not when you and others wanted him to...kudos to him for staring adversity in the face and putting the club and team first....must hurt some on here to be proven wrong because they decided to join the media frenzy and not know or have the facts first..

Oh please, pass me the vomit bucket!
Let me guess, you are under 15yo, your Mum set you up on the Forum and you got sand kicked in you face at the beach today … you’ve made some sort of ‘fantasy’ victory in your own mind...
Now off to bed, you have a big day at school tomorrow.

Thats some reply there Tony
I see true tiger present the facts
I see you present insults.
Says it all

Its unbelievable what some people will say on this forum without knowing the writer personally….I stand by my comments and applaud Ivan for coaching the team to beat the Raiders yesterday and not go there for our usual flogging from them..
I will also congratulate Ivan for keeping the team positive in a time when negativity was at a high this week...
If Ivan does take up another offer elsewhere after his contract is up with us,then that is the norm for coaches in the NRL these days whether it be more money, more challenges or personal reasons....he may also extend his stay with us....it is his choice...nobody can really know unless we are given factual evidence by Ivan himself, after all it is his career and his choice..
\
\
Just a little tip Tony...dont try to insult my intelligence with sarcastic replies..it makes you look bad ...Im much older than you think,my mum past away several years ago,I have a responsible job and I have never had sand kicked in my face because I dont live near the beach.....

Oh please…save your holier than thou judgements of others in regard to Ivan just because you interpret the information different to others, and want to believe he is innocent of any wrong doing in relation to this matter. I wanted to believe that too - but nothing for five days.

All I wanted from Ivan is to demonstrate that the "vitriol" that has been pedaled out about being on the bus that we have been listening to for the last eighteen months still applies to him. There was enough that happened and was reported that questioned that.
Yes we got the prepared statement yesterday 5 days later, but all he had to to was unequivocally deny that he had any interest in the coaching position at Penrith, as soon as the information came out, and story over.

But he didn't - and in doing so what could have been put to bed as misinformation and innuendo, instead resulted in lots of doubt about what his intentions are - that all rests with Ivan, the club, and or both.

Oh please?? I stand by what I said. Nothing holy about it, just giving someone the benefit of the doubt when there is no evidence to the contrary. If you want to hang him without evidence, thats your issue.
"All I wanted from Ivan." Now that is an OH PLEASE!
Ivan owes you nothing, he was hung out to dry by the media just so the vultures could have a feed.

Save the moral high ground rant NT. Seem to recall you being vocal about the character of others based on information fed by the media without giving them the benefit of the doubt.

Dont think I have ever attacked Ivans character, but questioned his commitment this week especially when he remained quiet on the matter, and with the knowledge that he wants to coach his son. His silence allowed the story to gain momentum and whether it was his choice to stay silent or not - if there was no truth in it it could have been shut down five days ago. Its that simple.
I have always been vocal in my support for Cleary but am over the focus being on coaching Nathan. If anything the events of the last week may have thwarted that for a period of time and Ivan can give his complete attention to coaching the WTs.- and without Ivan owing me anything - Im more than happy with that.

Silence equals guilt

Tell that to a man with his tongue cut out.

Indeed

If none of this had happened would anyone be asking Ivan what he would be doing in two years?

Well done to Ivan and the boys.

Time to move on from this crap.
