Some interesting insights from Ivan. Even though he has incredible depth and some generational talent at his disposal, the man can coach, he seems to grasp the technical side of things as well as understanding his players as people. Interesting the part where he mentioned Phil Gould undermining him in the media, there's that dual role conflict popping up again.

The part that interested me was "didn't sit right with me".. from memory this is as close to an admission of wrongdoing as you'll get from Cleary for dogging it.

I am over it too. Sometimes you need to be a bit selfish and back yourself in. By any measure it has been proven to be the right decision.

Gould is a savage piece of shit.
He talked an amazing amount of crap about Cleary, then did the same to his replacement and then continued the negative talk once Cleary was reinstated...all through the media to an audience of millions.
Once Ivan started seeing success, the bloated toad then began his campaign of taking credit for the success. This lasted a few years as well.

Ivan did us dirty, no doubt. I bet he'd do things very differently if he had that moment again. That said, he has had a very good career as a player over 11 seasons and as a coach over 18 and counting....6 grand finals for 4 premierships is awesome. Not bad for a 53 year old. The guy has spent more than half his life involved in top level Rugby League in pivotal capacity.

I heard Ivan talking about the events surrounding his departure from Wests. It sounded like he had regrets with the way things were done and him leaving us in the lurch. Mind you 4 premierships in a row with his son..
