Storm say they've suggested a couple of guys on our roster suitable to replace JAC but have been fobbed off by Pascoe et al. The longer this takes to sort out the lower our chance of signing this guy. I've seen Talau's name mentioned a few times as a possible "trade". Momo's another one that might fit if he wants to stay down there. You'd figure Nofo would be high on their list of desirable JAC replacements but we'd be nuts to go anywhere near that, even if Nofo was interested in making the move. Whomever it is, they have to want to go; we can't make them.

Compensation doesn’t have to come from us. When we let Matterson go to Parra, we got Lucy from the Dragons.

That's true but seems to me our chance of signing this guy diminish the longer we wait for them to find someone they like from another NRL club or overseas

There’s nothing to suggest that’s the case.

Hope we sign him and soon. Just hope we're not being "played" here!

I don’t think we’re being played but I agree the longer it goes the more chance there is of another team going for him. That’s the case with all potential signings.

Think everyone is just going to have to be patient. It’s not something that’s going to be announced tomorrow or even next week. I don’t expect any sort of announcement till the season is over. Just like Bunny Lebowski’s kidnapping. there’s a lot of in and a lots of outs to this situation

Definitely. This will be a slow process.

oh well if we had given melbourne talau earlier we may have had JAC oh well
lets go for Staines i guess

Relax, we're well in the hunt for JAC. I have to laugh at the conclusions some people draw on here.

I'll sleep better now

Yeah well that’s just like, your opinion, man.

If we bottle this now by refusing to give them Talau we don’t deserve to be successful. The guy is a SOO and test player.

Why can't we have both?

From the reports (which may well be wrong) Melbourne want a replacement and Talau is the player they’ve asked for. We’ve said no so they’re digging their heels in.The longer it drags on, the more clubs (like Souths) can enter the frame. I think we should have taken the deal, we are fairly well covered in the backs and could use Talau’s funds elsewhere.

Still the problem is - maybe Talau does not want to go to Melbourne. (can't blame him for that).

Storm are in power because he is signed next year on reasonable money.

Although are they letting him leave on compassionate/family grounds or not? Not a good look they either are fully in or not.

Talau was a Melbourne Storm fan growing up and his favourite player was Billy Slater growing up... bit of incentive maybe.

Question for you... If we have to wait until after the season (most likely outcome anyway) and with that alone it will open other clubs into the bidding war once they settle rosters and I feel we are unlikely to sign him.. Do we chase Stains or someone else now before we miss out on both ?
I trust Madge 100% what he is doing here but as we know we have been burnt before and not just once..
If it was me I would swap Talau now and make the deal assuming he is willing to go. we cannot afford to go through all this again for the next 2 months..

Cameron Munster had a plush Tiger instead of a Teddy as a kid..

Gotta wonder about our operations when other clubs slam us in the media.
Usually clubs are fairly tactful and diplomatic with each other in these scenarios....

"We have spoken to the club he wants to go to and inquired about a couple of players and they've fobbed us off," Donaghy said.

"It is their prerogative but it's not helpful in trying to achieve an outcome for Josh.

I don’t know about that. Sounds a bit like sour grapes. They want someone of similar ability and I suspect Nofo was their target. A little unprofessional from the young Melbourne CEO if you ask me.

To me it sounds like an out for Melbourne to keep him for 2021. Sorry JAC we couldn’t find a suitable replacement, you’ll have to stay and honour your contract.

I wouldn’t swap any player that’s part of the clubs plans unless it’s the same position you are releasing. Mbye is the only player that makes sense. No young players and only ones that free up salary cap space.

Storm are being flogs they asked for Campbell Graham from Souths and David Nofoaluma.
You either release on compassionate grounds or you don’t.

Manly are doing it with Fonua Blake and other clubs have done similar. The player has a year to go and any club signing him is paying top dollar he’s not coming for 450k. Therefore paying top dollar and releasing a junior in a position of need or a top class player like Nofa is dumb.

Lastly Bellamy is leaving next year and not many people will want to live in communist Victoria under Chairman Dan moving forward. Storm won’t be attractive in the years to come and these players who they want are unlikely to want to leave. It’s ridiculous.

I don't understand this - he is already at the bunnies - there is conflicting stories about whether he is signed or not. According to NSWRL site in January this year he was signed with Souths until the end of 2021. https://www.nswrl.com.au/news/2020/01/04/20-stars-for-2020--joseph-suaalii/
The article by Foxsports also says he is technically signed for 3 years on close to 600k a year - what does that mean "technically signed". That article also says he is demanding a new 5 year deal. Huh? From when - now or the end of 2021.

They're the ones that need to be helpful in achieving an outcome for 'Josh'... he has asked for compassionate leave.

You can say good clubs don't let players go, but if he a player needed to go for personal reasons it just becomes silly to force them to stay.

And if we did this the DT would have our club’s throat, all over WT for player welfare in the past, it’s all poor management, being a club players want to leave. Yet Storm get away with it because it’s ‘fair’. Please. Give it a rest. From the moment they come into the Comp the Storm have had favours. Monetary and non-monetary. They systematically cheated for years and went straight back to winning because of the favours they get. As Kent said the other night, league is not a socialist sport and he’s spot on. The salary cap is supposed to create an even Comp but it’s just a complete farce. NRL will be stuck with the same top 4 for the next 10 years cos money talks. It’s NFL for me these days.

I read that he agreed to a 3 year deal with Souths earlier on but that contract hasn’t been registered by the NRL yet so it’s not official. Now he’s demanding more and it sounds like the whole contract will be thrown out and he’ll be a free agent. Bennett himself said it’s unlikely he’ll be there next season
