I’m sure he looked towards the north when being interviewed. I’d say he’s going to Newcastle. Yep that’s it! Newcastle!!
Wow! His comments meant nothing!!

You're right, his comments meant nothing.

Because everything was covered in the **intonation** of his voice. That high pitch rise at the end of red-FERN, meant that he was missing spending time with his family outside of the bubble, and he was planning on spending more time with them soon. And the fact he spoke with a short "r" at the start of R-edfern, indicated that he missed going shooting with his brother Mitchell, and he was looking forward to in four weeks when Origin is over he was going straight there.

Thanks for explaining that it makes sense now

I’d like to turn your attention momentarily to JAC?
When or if we land him, what do we have to offer by way of specialist FB coaching? Do we bring in one of our old #1? Or do we let Foxx wing it so to speak? Or has the FB role become so intertwined within the team that it only requires limited skills training? What do other teams do?
"[Papenhuyzen] has really matured this year, I'm sure he'd be the first one to say he's had a lot of help off Billy [Slater] and he's been very grateful for that," Bellamy said.

If we do get someone in like Storm do, who is that person?

Somebody like Owen Craigie he played one or two games at fullback.

I remember when LM was looking for a new home, all sorts of figures were flying in the media. He eventually signed on at Souths for $600k.

$600k on the table.

Yep

It’s funny how a lot of souths players end up signing for unders after a trip to Rustys farm

Well if you think about it
If a player receives a sum of money from someone he is not playing for, how can it be included in the cap
Eg
A person receives $500,000 on Monday, call it appearance money as a guest to a Farm to talk about cow dung
That person signs a contract on Wednesday to play for souths
Well that Person legitimately earned that money outside of football
Maybe a relative spoke about their knowledge of cow dung

That’s why the salary cap is useless. There are a 101 ways to rort the system. Teams like Souths and the Chooks who have some very wealthy people in their corner have no problems assembling star studded rosters without having cap problems.
Anyway been done this track a million times but we need a new system, like a point system

Point systems are rubbish

We have to try something because as the cap stands now, it is not working
Something needs to give
For a club like ours to offer a Latrell Mitchell an apparent $1,000,000+ contract per year, only to have that rejected for a $600,000 per year contract stinks
Something is not right
Who gives up $400,000 a year or 40%+ to play with your mates
That is just not believable
$8,000 a week ?
All these players taking pay cuts to be with there mates
Aren't they mates outside of football
They can still go out for dinner or go fishing with their mates like normal people
What's Leichhardt a 5 minute drive to Redfern

Something stinks and we all know it
Except the NRL
Maybe they drive nice cars or go down to Rusty's farm.
I can't see anyone sacrificing $400,000 or 40% to play with his mates

Take this points system dribble elsewhere

It doesn't have to be a points system
A market value would be fare
And this would only need to be used when a player is looking at changing clubs not being re signed at his existing club

Would last five minutes in court if the Players Union (or someone willing to payroll) challenged it. Clear restraint of trade.

Can a $9.4 million cap be thought of as a restraint of trade ?
Because the league has set that figure

POssibly, but hasnt been tested, but that is not what you are talking about, you are talking about setting arbitrary values. What if Teddy wanted to come to the Tigers and we had $300K to offer him and he said yes but NRL said no he is worth $700K and cant come?

(If another club offers him $700k then that is market value and his value
So if we don't have the available funds then we can't sign him simple
Stay where he is or go to another club with available funds)

What is JAC's value
$600,000 as an untried fullback?

A player has the right to earn as much as possible (we all know and understand that) and that is determined by what a club is willing to pay

and that is the current system, not what you are suggesting.

(Yes but signing with clubs for unders should be stopped
If we have funds to sign a player for $600,000 but he chooses to go to another club for $400,000 that is his choice
But the club that signs him should have $600,000 deducted from their cap
That is how teams like Roosters and souths stack their teams
By signing players on paper for under market value)

Therefore the larger amount offered to a player should set a players value (not undervalued)
And that is the value that should be used and applied against the cap

Do you realise what the cap is for? It is not to level the talent, it is to stop clubs going broke. What you are suggesting would encourage the Tigers or Bulldogs to offer a Teddy $3M to force Roosters hands,

(It is both
To stop clubs going broke and to spread the talent )
(Tell me why Harry wasn't allowed to pay 3rd party payments to lure players to our club
Its his money, not the clubs
So why is this not allowed
We all assume Rusty and Nick do it)

Or
Think of it as $1 equals 1 point (like flybuys)
Each club has 9,400,000 points to spend
You can only get so much with your points

Make up your mind. Points? Market value? NRL set value?.

(Nrl do not set the Value
The bidding clubs do
My point is $ or points should make no difference
Each has a value
Each club has an allowance
They should not be allowed to exceed that no matter which value is used
And the good thing is all clubs bidding for a player have a chance to set a players value
You bid highest then you buy
Player says no I want to go souths, then souths have that bid off there cap regardless of what they say they pay)

Just thinking
If all clubs interested in a player submit a tender to the nrl. Said player cannot accept a contract of lesser value of top offer by say 15%.

It could have some kind of condition along those lines
If a player accepted anything over 10 or 15% less would be very questionable

So what’s everybody going bananas over ? He said next stop Redfern? Did he say this just after thier grand final victory ? It’s pretty on the nose for him to say something like that at that point , considering what he’d just accomplished with his mates , IF , big IF, he meant it the way you guys are implying . I highly doubt his head would have been there even if he was “screw these guys, I’m out !”. He’s probably referring to party town , ie.“ I’m going to party in Redfern now with my mates , yeww !

What’s more likely , a 25 year old in lockdown for 6 months , who just won the GF, being like “ah my contract situation is the most important thing right now” , OR...
“I’ve just won the GF this is the greatest day of my life , where’s the beer bong “

Its not a restraint of trade if the club can pay the player whatever they agree to.

But it is if a club wants to pay a player what they agree to, player wants to go there, but third party (NRL) says no because of arbitrary value.

Its not a restraint of trade if the club can pay the player whatever they agree to.

It is when you are potentially preventing them from playing for a team on a wage they both agree to.

Thats not restraint of trade - you are not stopping them from playing. Just because they want to play for X but have to play for Y because X can't fit you in is not restraint.

Of course it is, an employee as a right to choose their employer.

So if i have the qualifications and choose to work at IBM and they don't employ me its a restraint of trade?

No, but if you choose to work at IBM and they want you there and everyone agrees to terms but then it is blocked by the regulator who says you have to go to Dell, that is a restraint of trade.....and socialism.
