I'm over signing everyone's discards...and I mean no disrespect... but fringe first graders too. Who also happen to be in very low demand.
So Hartigan and Madge setting the tone for the club's new recruitment policy - by targeting players such as LM or JAC - shows me that we're doing our darnedest to gain high calibre players who can help overturn the club's culture.
It may be disappointing to not get them but this points to an attempt to move away from mediocrity, and as far as I'm concerned it's the only thing I wish for as a WT fan.

Agreed @Lauren the hard part is you can't control what the player decides to do in the end. You present the club in the best possible light and then it falls to the player to decide. I will not judge the recruitment team on the players we miss out on, just the ones we do sign as that is in our control.

So over this, LM saga pissed me off for many reasons and everyone knew this reeked of the same smell very early on.

Don't care if it happens or not anymore, just wish it wasn't playing out through the media again.

I think we all need to be patient. With the Storm signing George Jennings it looks to me like they have a replacement left winger they’re happy with. They’ll probably let him go in the same way we let Matterson go when we knew Luciano was likely to sign. Perhaps these media reports have been encouraged by the Storm as last minute attempts to force a trade, but my gut feeling is that they won’t want to keeping paying JAC against the cap, so this will probably all be sorted come the working week (Eg early this week) with an announcement made 10 days later once the contract cooling off period expires.

Given the Tigers don't have a player they are willing to offer in return, Canterbury and South Sydney could be options for Addo-Carr, particularly given Reimus Smith is a player the Bulldogs want to trade.‘

Our refusal to trade anyone might just cost us his signature. Not sure we’re in the position to play hardball

Sorry, we are willing to give him a top level contract, why would we give up a player we won't to keep as well? That puts his price too high for me.

Because we need top talent.... whoever we will be giving them wouldn’t even be close to JAC’s level. If it’s the only way to get him then we have to at least entertain the idea. We are not in a position to let top level talent walk on by yet again.

Not if they don't want to be here anyway.

Sounds like he does, it’s Melbourne blocking his way here.

He has a desire to play at Souths

Weidler saying he’s agreed to join us and waiting on a release. I’m sure he would like to play at Souths too but he’s happy to be here.

I never trust Weidler's info.

I'm not saying he won't be here, but we are not his 1st choice, you do not give up a player if you are someone's 2nd or 3rd choice.

Weidler is a germ but his info is normally solid

If we were his last choice but we could still get him I’d do it. He’s that good and you know he’ll give his all on the field

When people have other preferences that will at times use you as a stepping stone to get to where they want to be. The absolute worse case scenario for us is we give up a player and then in 12 months a position becomes available at JAC's first choice club and he starts agitating for a release. That is the risk you take when you take people when you are not their 1st choice.

You have that risk signing anyone though especially at our club. You have to make sure they’re welcome at the club and love it here, look how much Harry loved his time here. Not every player is out to use as as a stepping stone and do us dirty by screwing us

When you know you're not the 1st choice it is not worth the risk of giving up a player. We are not JAC's 1st choice.

Well If we’re only going to sign players who want to play here as their first Choice we’re going to be running out with like 3 players next year.

So yeah lets give up a player who wants to be here for one that doesn't, that seems smart.

No, being smart is buying quality players. Being stupid is thinking there’s state of origin quality players out there who want to play at the worst performing club of the last 20 years over clubs like the Roosters, Storm or Souths.

Thanks Cochise. Not sure how I missed that memo but just read that it was scrapped in 2017 to stop players backing out ala DCE, Teddy. Probably a good thing... In that case, everybody feel free to panic if no news by Tuesday.

No problem with signing JAC mate, I really want him here. You don't give up a player who is committed to the club to get him here, especially when it is clear he wants to be somewhere else.

There are several factors in our favour with JAC. Bellamy and Maguire know and trust each other-hence the Harry/Momo swap deal nobody else even attempted. Second, we are the only club to have yet offered JAC a concrete deal (now confirmed by his agent) and signed a Heads of Agreement which basically outlines what the end deal will look like and he hasn't said he's seriously unhappy with anything in that offer. Be great to get him for 2021 but still fantastic to get him when his Storm deal ends for 2022 season.

Souths are his family, he’s just giving them time to make a decent offer.

Agree, what was the term used earlier this year? A destination Club.....looks like we aren’t there yet. Got some serious concerns for 2021

I think most of us on here agree with that .... the club recruitment honchos included.
I believe this saga will still play out until the SOO is done so we need to be patient.

I dare say if he stays at Melbourne next season we are no hope. There’ll be plenty of clubs who can fit him in for 2022, us being essentially the only one who can offer him a deal for 2021 is kinda the main reason he would’ve come I reckon

Can’t understand not wanting to give them Talau especially now Josh is willing to stay at Melbourne for another season

Unless Talau becomes an Australian level player it will not be worth it. Maybe they think that highly of him at the club
