If the game really wanted to become squeeky clean it would need to have :
1. Salary cap - supposedly have one but it doesn't work or at least no one believes it works.
2. A Draft - Rich clubs and the RLPA are never going to allow this - RLPA don't want it because supposedly it is a restriction of trade. Rich clubs don't want it because they won't be allowed to stockpile all the good players.
3. Transparent TPAs - All TPAs should be published showing who is providing them, for how much and to whom. This will never happen because half the clubs in the competition will be busted for TPA rorts. Also Nick Politis has told the NRL he is happy with the way TPAs work at the moment.

So none of those 3 things are ever going to happen - but wait we have a salary cap you say. Hang on I have to go out and clean up the mess one of those flying pigs has left on my lawn.

Haha, a salary cap where some teams have 7 origin players while others have none. It is a farce mate. And the goons in the media all sing along like there’s nothing to see here.

Then when the 9 Million dollar Tigers get pumped by the 12 Million dollar Roosters it’ll be justified.

The RLPA strongly disagree. Doing it would have its positives and negatives, the players themselves will cop a lot more abuse off fans, but it would be nice as a paying member to see how the club uses its salary cap so I can see if they’re making dumb decisions or not

Who cares if players cop more abuse from fans .. they are payed to entertain the fans .
The way it is now with all the speculation doesn’t work .
Transparency is the answer .

100% agree Hobbo, apart from easts and souths fans, and maybe the dogs now, every other fan would be all for it

I do believe that some players would accept unders for a better chance at a premiership but Addo Carr taking a reportedly $175k less to join the Dogs ..
C’mon ?

I think it's more what the successful Clubs offer the elite players after footy which induces them to sign for less...

I don't believe Minichello has ever paid for a latte in his life..that sort of stuff will never show up in a salary ..

But any club can offer what Easts offer - there is no reason we couldn't have offered Teddy free dental, a lambourghini, a Meriton apartment in the eastern suburbs and free doner kebabs for life once his football days were over. As long as it was all done on the sly like the rorters do who would know. We are just chumps at playing the game.

We are like one of the only sports leagues in the world witha closed off , fixed team lineup every year ( no relegation) , that doesn’t have a draft . It’s seriously head scratching . You have a draft and trades , and make the salaries transparent , and it’s happy days . So what if people know that josh Reynolds is on 800k ?

People knew Nicholas Batum was on 29 million , and riding the pine for the Charlotte hornets . It’s not his fault ,it’s his clubs . Or that Tom Brady was taking 10 mil pay cuts , cause he knew he’d make it back up in endorsements , and he wanted that money to improve the team .

It only matters if you’re shady , and worried about being caught .

Absolute NO - that's NO to a draft from me. Under NO circumstances.

Why?

Because no one should be made to go and play for someone they don't want to, go to a place they don't want to be, or be separated from friends and family if they don't want to be.

Trades are made in a draft - its not just a straight forward you go there. Players can be traded to where they want to go for draft picks, compensation, player swaps.

The salary cap auditor and the process itself is the greatest farce in the game.

Maybe things have changed but a young bloke used to grow up dreaming of playing NRL, an opportunity to play at any club should be taken with open arms. But maybe I’m now a dinosaur too.

I mean Cmon. he had a deal with us for $600K! Why would you sign for less. Barrett must be really good at convincing people because I see the Dogs at Spooners next year.

I think it came out that it was closer to 3 million over 4 seasons... I could be wrong, but that would make more sense

$3m over 4yrs? I find that hard to believe.
There seems to be a lot of cow dung being tossed around in the media.

It wasn't in the media - a poster on here said he knew someone in the know at the dogs who said the figure was being understated in the media and the deal was closer to 3mil over 4 years.

I’ve been told the bulldogs offered him $600k more in guaranteed money over the 4 years. Our offer was based on incentives if he played fullback. He wanted the easy money so good luck to him.

That makes sense. If our offer was up to $675k including incentives and dogs at $650k which has him on same as Cotric, then of course he would be crazy not to go to the dogs. If he came to WT and didn’t play the required 12 games he could be out of pocket by $600k over 4 seasons. A recipe for conflict and poor performance imo.

If I was offered 600k more to do the same thing at a different place I reckon I would grab it and most others would too. He looked after his own best interests for what ever reason and it will either be a goid move for him or it won't. Either way financially he is very well rewarded for his talent - and he earned it.

Both Tigers and Dogs in a holding pattern till 2022, much depends on our ability to attract a couple of guns in the next 12 months.

Are you saying JAC went into panic mode once WT withdrew?
Maybe? IDK?
I’m guessing he had 2 options.
1. WT at $500k with incentive to prove worth at FB and get up to another $175k. A vague incentive because his selection 12 times or more over each season was obviously at the discretion of a team selector. Not directly within his scope, he not being a selector.
Or..
2. Dogs at $650k regardless of position. No strings.

To me it’s a no brainer. If I’m Josh, I don’t want the distraction of a positional change effecting my take home pay by a substantial amount.
