I’ve been told the bulldogs offered him $600k more in guaranteed money over the 4 years. Our offer was based on incentives if he played fullback. He wanted the easy money so good luck to him.

That makes sense. If our offer was up to $675k including incentives and dogs at $650k which has him on same as Cotric, then of course he would be crazy not to go to the dogs. If he came to WT and didn’t play the required 12 games he could be out of pocket by $600k over 4 seasons. A recipe for conflict and poor performance imo.

It was reported that we pulled our offer in early December, so when he signed with the dogs, he never had an offer on the table from us.

I’m not blaming him for taking the money, but as I said we didn’t lose him, we weren’t in the race, so he only had one option as far as I know.

All players salary’s should be made public as well as TPA’s

Then when the 9 Million dollar Tigers get pumped by the 12 Million dollar Roosters it’ll be justified.

We are like one of the only sports leagues in the world witha closed off , fixed team lineup every year ( no relegation) , that doesn’t have a draft . It’s seriously head scratching . You have a draft and trades , and make the salaries transparent , and it’s happy days . So what if people know that josh Reynolds is on 800k ?

People knew Nicholas Batum was on 29 million , and riding the pine for the Charlotte hornets . It’s not his fault ,it’s his clubs . Or that Tom Brady was taking 10 mil pay cuts , cause he knew he’d make it back up in endorsements , and he wanted that money to improve the team .

It only matters if you’re shady , and worried about being caught .

Absolute NO - that's NO to a draft from me. Under NO circumstances.

Why?

Because no one should be made to go and play for someone they don't want to, go to a place they don't want to be, or be separated from friends and family if they don't want to be.

Trades are made in a draft - its not just a straight forward you go there. Players can be traded to where they want to go for draft picks, compensation, player swaps.

What happens to the players that don't want to go to the 5 choices that were made?

Then they go work at K-mart or similar

They've paid too much money for a couple of wingers, as good as they are it could hurt them

Both Tigers and Dogs in a holding pattern till 2022, much depends on our ability to attract a couple of guns in the next 12 months.

If the reported 2mil for 4 years is correct then i don’t understand why we missed out on him...especially given he supposedly loved the club

Our deal was around the same (if not more)...

The question I think I’ve already answered?
I think you’re assuming that the dogs weren’t a bit interested in Josh until WT withdrew? You don’t know that.
I think Bunnies were also interested but had too many players signed for longer than another season.
Yes, I do think there would be an element of urgency involved when 2 of your 3 suitors drop out. Particularly, if you want the deal done before Christmas. I do think his agent would have been under pressure, given his style of negotiating.

Hope he enjoys tackling a whole lot more than he's been used to at the Storm. Vast difference in quality both in playing and coaching between his new team in '22 and his current outfit. Sick of these "star players" and their arrogant agents wasting our time. We did the right thing telling Addo-Carr and his mouthpiece in early December we were no longer interested

Earlier this month Lee H said that we pulling out of negotiations with Josh’s management due to them failing to attend deadlines, So to me, that means we were no longer in the race for his signature.

I have no idea what the dogs were doing and don’t really care.

I think we’re going to find out how good a coach Trent Barrett is?
Rather than go to market for $800k FB and Centres, he has picked up a couple of good Wingers at reasonable value to fill those spots. If the plan fails the worst case scenario is 2 wingers for the price of 3, but they are not your average wingers. They’re very good. However like most wingers, they often struggle defensively.
This tactic of buying a player to play out of position hasn’t really worked for WT. The stand out example would be Mbye a 6/7 /9 we paid $950k to play 1. On the positive though, I do think Mbye is stronger defensively than JAC & Cotric.
A testing time for Barrett?
The dogs are a reminder of where WT were when we got Ivan in to solve our problems, and we all know how useless he was found to be.

On a serious note
I get so frustrated every year
I don't blame our club at all
I blame the way the cap is used and the loop holes some teams go to in order to stack their teams
The Nrl knows its happening and know its not right
And what do they do about it
Nothing
I'll ask this question
How does the Nrl ever expect to expand our game or supporter base when there appears to be a clear divide from the top 8 and bottom 8 teams
Who is going to start following a team that consistently finishes outside the 8
The Nrl needs to fix this problem or the game will stay stagnant
No wonder there are now crowds at the games these days
The result of many games are known before kick off
Make it unpredictable and crowds will come back
Jac going to Bulldogs isn't so bad as they get to sign a good player at the top of his game
As long as it is legal and in the terms of the salary cap rules I am ok with that
As long as our time comes soon
Real soon
Or the NRL will loose another long standing supporter

Do you believe that JAC signed for $500k per season? Idk, but I think it is more, someone on here said they had heard the deal was $3m over 4 yrs, which prob sounds more realistic.

Anyway, whatever it is, he is not here, so he is one of them not us, so couldn’t care less, until he plays us.

I’m guessing he had 2 options.
1. WT at $500k with incentive to prove worth at FB and get up to another $175k. A vague incentive because his selection 12 times or more over each season was obviously at the discretion of a team selector. Not directly within his scope, he not being a selector.
Or..
2. Dogs at $650k regardless of position. No strings.

To me it’s a no brainer. If I’m Josh, I don’t want the distraction of a positional change effecting my take home pay by a substantial amount.

He signed a HOA as we were the only genuine Sydney team showing interest and prepared to offer him decent money. That changed when Barrett was appointed and dogs came in with a bigger offer. He tried to get out of the HOA leading Lee to come out in the media and say our HOA is enforceable. Then Melbourne upped his salary for 2021 and he was happy to go another year at Melbourne to get the guaranteed money at the dogs regardless of what position he played. His lost all credibility because being close to his family was no longer a problem and he tried desperately to get out of the HOA and his manager didnt even bother turning up to our meeting. All about the money this guy.
