OFFICIAL Jack Bird #299

you seem obsessed with filling our prop rotation with the most unlikely characters
Gah, I mean 2RF. I understood that Bird was brought here because he could cover in the front at either 2RF or lock.

Look I am not saying he does any of these spots particularly well. But as Depth, the fact that he has some experience playing those spots helps. Unlike Naden and now departed Staines who pretty much could only do Center/wing.

That's still better than hanging on to him if he makes 1st grade again, I'll go rock hopping in the nude.
Really?

Ok rockhopping in the nude just brings very refreshing tidal waves and a very confused starfish.

That said, we signed Bird. If he is 400k and we have to pay 200k for him to leave.
Let him stay.

Bird isn't performing to his best, either he is ready for the glue factory OR he is taking it easy and not performing under Marshall. Heck it's his first year here, maybe it's adjustment.

That said, for 200k you get a player who can/has played Center/5-8/halfback/2RF. We won't get that kind of coverage or experience for 200k anywhere else. I hate depth signings, but we need some depth and Bird covers that.

Do I want this? NO! Admittedly I thought Bird would be a good signing and he has turned to a fizzer. But it's why we shouldn't sign 'depth' or fringe graders. We can't just keep signing people for 400/600 and paying their freight to go play elsewhere for 200k.

And club or just the Tigers?
ESL next season would be his best chance at top grade footy you would think and if he can do something over there than maybe one of the new clubs coming in might be desperate to fill their rosters.

Don't want him here seen enough to convince he'll be lucky to get out of reserve grade.

I actually feel for Bird.

I’ve changed my opinion on Galvin’s departure (and him as a bloke) after June 30 rolled around and what has happened since. You see the media praising Ryles for the Eels cleanout, and the way the Dogs treated Sexton, Mahoney and a stack of others who haven’t see out their contracts of last couple of years

Players get courted, sold on promises to sign with a club instead of going elsewhere, and then bam they’re told, “you’re not wanted, move on.”

Clubs mess around with players’ careers all the time, so I’ve got no issue anymore if players mess around with clubs. At the end of the day, clubs will always look after themselves and they will endure for decades to come , and players’ careers are short.

Signed in a frenzy to show the new management in Tiger town was being pro active in changing the club around, purchased purely on his name and his form from 2016 and not on his current ability. I had no issue of him signing for us for his name recognition, for his experience around the young boys and for an astute depth signing (he should be playing in reggies and called up for injuries only) the issue is the $400K part and him being part of the top 17 regularly which shows just how bad the tigers roster really is in 2025. Great signing for a depth player @ $200k. Glad he is being pushed out purely for the coin he is taking up for game quality he is producing. SL will be the only place he gets a run from here on out.

He can cry into his pillow filled with 400K for producing diddly squat all year.

Yeah I feel terrible for the bloke. Hope hes doing ok.

Some on here don't like I called him a dud Winston.
You cant blame them, Its the result of a 15 year conditioning campaign towards the 'fans' of a losing club. Support losers and mediocrity at all costs. Finishing 16 or above is a cracking result and if you don't think its ok you're not a real fan, just shut up and eat your gruel and you'll like it and you'll ask for more.

Was about to ask why they haven’t also tapped Hunt on the shoulder to look for another club, but they probably know not even a club in Group 6 would be interested.

Bird, we can hope he can get interest as a,squad filler / ESL. Hunt I can only hope gas some KPIs within contract that can be used if he doesn't pick up fitness / interest in the game.

Good. I hope Twal is next. It doesn't make sense to re-sign a player because he's a nice bloke. I know Benji has said "when he talks everyone listens" but seriously, do we need another orator or an enforcer?
