Used to have the KFC Cup for golf. Take 2 slabs and a bucket to the course. Whoever won a hole had to skull a beer and eat a piece. As the bucket got colder and the beer warmer it was a penalty not a reward.

As their value drops they hopefully become more attractive to either clubs in the bottom or middle 8, or SL?
The point is, as we’ve all been saying we should be trading up. Hiring skills that we don’t have to suit our playing style.
We shouldn’t be re-signing players because they have some obscure talent that doesn’t win games such as being good for morale or being a great family man etc. surely we can find these qualities in a player who has speed to burn, or has a Fittler sidestep?

I reckon Twal has had his best season this year ..if he sees out his deal that’s fine by me ..

Don't worry BT it won't happen I think Bird is looking like he's on the way out or at the very least has buckleys chance of ever getting back into 1st grade with the depth we are building.

Besides can you imagine the dangers involved, there could be a hungry tuna/ barracuda desperate enough to leap out of the water looking for a meal.
 
The fact it has all come out publicly says to me he may have some options elsewhere. I'm sure we will be carrying a percentage of his freight. He may be a good pickup for a team like the Knights or Titans with their younger squads, a bit of experience around the sheds and could play a role when called up. Also depends on who has top 30 spots they can't fill
 
Anyone know what's happening with Jack Bird atm? Is he injured or are there other issues at play? Hasn't played for a few weeks and I don't recall seeing him in any team photos of late either.

I wonder whether the not playing him has to do with him not buying into the 'team first' ethos too, whereas Royce Hunt does and is still part of our future (regardless of people's opinions on here).

I do get the overall premise from our Forum members that Jack Bird is an adequate depth member of our roster. The thing that stings me is that we are supposedly paying Jack $400,000 a year for the privilege.

When compared to the quoted salaries of players plying their trade in more successful teams, Jack Bird's return on investment is indicative of our less than desirable 13th placing on the NRL ladder.

The Brisbane Broncos succeeded in paying their Grand Final half back Adam Reynolds $500,000. They managed to steal their Grand Final five eighth, Ben Hunt for $550,000. As we all know, the Broncos win the premiership.

Another highly successful club of late, the Cronulla Sharks are paying their fullback, Will Kennedy a reported $300,000 to don the number one jersey. The Sharks are a top 5 team.

Do we see value in paying Jack Bird $400,000 a year to play ressies? If Jack was on $200,000 I think it would be a value depth signing. I have nothing against Jack and hope he can deliver for us next year but a player that for the most part is a depth member of our top 30 roster should not be earning $400,000 as is reported. Our club will never be truly competitive if we can't address the very obvious imbalance in player salaries.

They gave up on Bird last year… he was not considered for selection like the last third of the season … and it was reported in the media that they told him he was free to move on in 2026 …

The fact he is still here doesn’t leave me too enthused about how much value for money that $400k will provide in 2026… he mightn’t be seeing much NRL action

Got me beat … at other clubs they move on players all the time … a player like Bird would have had value in the Super League …maybe the following year in 2027 after he has had a chance to recharge the batteries playing NSW Cup here on good coin perhaps …
