Jack Bird

This young man has been very impressive , a real match winner since he made his NRL debut, three weeks ago. A real talent for the Sharks. He's killing it as a five- eighth and that's not even his real position. I think he played mostly as a centre.
He's only 20 years old just like Mosses. But there seems to be a real hunger in his game. I love the way he takes on the line consistently and is not afraid to have a go.
He suffers from Rheumatoid Arthritis, and needs to take medication for it, to stop his joints from aching and stiffening up. Poor kid.
I like Mosses, i think he too is a special player, but just out of curiosity, i like to ask your opinion of how you think he compares with Bird.
Two very different type of players , but both equally good ?
What's your opinion?

Moses is your modern fullback type 5/8.

Bird is your old style lock type 5/8.

Good way of putting it, TITG - different types, they are hard to compare.

He's a bit of a gun, isn't he…

Good story behind him to.
Be keeping an eye on him to see how he turns out.

Should walk away with thr Rookie of the year.
Hard to compare him with Moses at the moment.
Bird has walked into a first grade that like us ,was struggling , and went into a unfamiliar position and never looked back.
He's been comfortable whether spinning balls out or playing a running game himself
It's not often someone like him steps up into a team and fits right in, andI I hope for their sake , that he's on a long contract
Moses on the other hand came in with a reputation as a top junior and so far has struggled for a number of reasons To live up to that reputation
Whether it is his fault or someone's elses, the fact remains that , as yet there is too many questions over him , and in my opinion he is not in the same class as Bird….Yet.

As I never saw him in the juniors, I can't say much about then, and am only going on what I see now and for WTs sake I hope he shows that all the hype he had ,can translate into a great first grade players For us.

I think it is more like comparing - in horse racing, a sprinter with a stayer.

Bird is the sprinter - I think tig_prmz is on the money comparing him with Austin to a point, he then, if good enough, will develop into a Forum type half. He is more robust at the moment than Moses and the coaches have yet to work him out in their game plan. We will then see how good he is.

On the other hand, Moses I think is a stayer and could develop more into a Thurston type of player. He is a slower developer - physically, which has slowed his development a tad; especially with giant forwards running at him all game. However I think his short and long passing game will come to the fore when JT lets him loose. He has it - remember Keith Lulia scoring 4 tries at Leichhardt. Finesse will be his main attribute, the ability to read the play ahead of most players and then put others through gaps. In simple terms he will have try assists running out of his a…

I wouldn't be worried about comparing him to anyone else - he will be his own man - it's just a matter of time and patience. I have not (apart from Johns) seen a prospect as good as this kid in 65 years of following League.

As for mentioning Groat - that is the ultimate insult.

Lulia s 4 tries were at homebush not Leichart. And it was a great effort by Moses because he pulled up lame after stubbing a goal kick around halftime.

Every now and then a kid comes into grade who just has "it." Jack Bird is one of those guys. Cronulla need to hold onto this guy He is a guy they can build their team around long term.

No pressure at all kid.

Jack bird is a very good player, and will continue to be a very good player.

Alot of young talented guys come into grade all guns blazing and we see the best of them first up, the test will be to keep doing it, plenty haven't to varying degrees,Brag Goggin, Matt Rodwell, Will Robinson and Tim Smith all burst onto the scene and were tipped to be long term test stars, all won rookie of the year, had varying degrees of success and never hit the heights.

Despite what we have seen so far, I cant see Bird being a rep standard five-eight. I do see him if he keeps at it turning into Luke lewis (which would be a terrific result)

Bird seems to be more of a Foran kind of player, he's strong and likes to take on the line, while Mosses is more like Benji or a Johnson kind of player. Able to do more fancy stuff. Create a lot of try assists with his passing game etc.
That's the way i see it anyway.

I actually think Moses will turn out the Foran clone.I look at Bird and I see Wally Lewis.A free running 5/8 who has forever got the defense in two minds when he runs at the angles.

That's a big wrap. I also think Moses looks like he will be a gun player. He has that class about him.

Has anyone been watching Elgey run around for the Titans. He has looked special as well. Just slipped straight into the NRL level no problem. Elgey and Bird will fight out rookie of the year.

I see it the same way. Lewis is the best analogy.

Moses though is much more a Maloney, all kick and pass.
