I find that players who do all these "Ive changed" articles generally don't work out that well. Packer, Idris, Scott etc come to mind.

I hope he doesn't do any more articles, just puts his head down and gets stuck into the pre-season. The way hes talking makes me feel that he thinks he's peaked.. his real challenge is only starting now. All he has done now (granted it must have been tough) is that he's come from being an outcast to proving he deserves another shot in the NRL. He has redeemed himself to an extent only.

Very true, but I guess you don't want them turning up and saying "I don't expect this to work out, I'll probably fall back into bad habits and disappear unceremoniously from first grade..."

Was that James Tamou?

**HUNGRY TIGER’S NEW OUTLOOK AND PREFERRED POSITION**

The Wests Tigers are set to get the best out of new recruit Jackson Hastings with the 25-year-old revealing just how much he’s matured since we last saw him in the NRL.

Hastings made his NRL debut as an 18-year-old before going on to play a total of 34 games for the Roosters. He then signed with Manly and played 13 games before a fallout forced him to escape overseas to the Super League.

The 25-year-old is back in Australia preparing for pre-season with the Tigers and recently told SEN he’s a much better version of the Hastings we saw in 2014-2018.

“I’m a way better person — I’m someone you want in your club,” he said.

“I’ve learnt how to lead by example. I’m the first one at training and last to leave. On the field, I can say I have turned into a leader.

“People used to say I’m a bit ahead of myself, but I’ve matured, I love the game and I’m going to bust my backside every week.

“I’ve got a real love for the game, and a willingness to be the best that I can be.

“Watching the best players in the NRL, it gives me chills knowing I’ll be playing against them again. To be able to come back and compete again is what I’m looking forward to the most.”

There’s been big question marks over where Hastings will play for the Tigers. He is a halfback by trade — and did win the 2019 Man of Steel award — however he says he is happy to just play anywhere he’s needed.

“I don’t really care what position I play — and I’m not just saying that to sound like a good team guy,” Hastings said.

“I see myself in the halves. I’ve played majority of my career there and it’s where I feel most comfortable, but I’ve said this to ‘Madge’ — I’m not going there to take anyone’s spot or to be a saviour — I’m going in there to fit into what has already been put in place.

“Whether it’s at halfback, hooker, off the bench — it doesn’t worry me — I’ve got a completely different attitude now.

“I’m just grateful to have this opportunity and hopefully I can repay them for giving me this opportunity.”

Hastings will join fellow Super League recruit Oliver Gildart as the new faces at Concord come pre-season. The club has

I really hope for his sake he puts it together....
He's certainly talking it up - He'll never get out alive if he doesn't...

I think Tamou, like most, has been an absolute failure as a leader. But I will give him this concession....

If you've been somewhere where you are the ONLY voice, and you don't get an ounce of support from others, it is a hard task. We are short on leaders no doubt, so if we can get Hastings, Tamou, Doeuhi and one or two more hard heads, it might be enough to bring out the best in them all, including Tamou.

I think that Tamou is a 100/1 chance to be selected as captain for 2022.

Tamou is also very unlikely to play a full game in 2022. Yet in 2021 we had so many complaints against Brooks and hardly a whisper against Tamou?

Sure, ok, Jackson is saying all the right things we’ve heard before and players know to emphasise WT buying motive so probably mention the word “leader” several times to up the contract.
Fans probably wondering how long before he discovers “underlying issues” and slows down?
Something about this signing feels right. This is a very good signing . Hastings is on the up, hasn’t reached his peak imo. He could be our next Captain?

There is an old saying "Self praise is no recomendation".Hastings needs to think before speaking,i know it's a fluff piece but what people say in them will be used against them by detractors for years

I’d like to see a competition to see who is the first to arrive at training and the last to leave? Must be both, otherwise it doesn’t mean anything. We should have a bunny clock?

First time I’ve seen a player talk about what a good person they are. Usually that’s for others to judge.

Could just give the captaincy Brooks who struggles to string a sentence together on camera and offers little leadership or game icing ability on the field. Not saying Hastings is the logical choice as captain however he sure plays like a leader and isn't afraid to do the talking on and off the pitch.

It’s not logical. It’s actually illogical. Hasn’t done anything you have described at NRL level against the top sides.

Neither has anyone else in the squad except Tamou. Whether he's done it at NRL against top sides is irrelevant really, the fact is he has the qualities of a leader. He has captained the Combined Nations Allstars team which automatically makes him more qualified than 99% of the squad.

It's absolute Garbage.... Who talks themselves up like that??
He's NEVER played decent NRL, He come back to sign with the Bottom feeders when no other club wanted him...

He want to come out Rd 1 like he's been fired out of a cannon.
The only person that needs to constantly convince others of how good they are, how much good they do are people that can't actually live up to it.

My goodness you're in for some heartbreak buddy....
He was picked to captain a novelty side in a mickey mouse comp - By the guy that will be his boss this year....

C'mon man - Think bigger than this....

Name anyone in the current squad more qualified other than Tamou considering AD wont be there to start the season. I'm not saying he deserves it straight up however it's more a reflection of the serious void in leadership.
