Jackson Hastings #251

I think he was well-wishing their injured when they were being taken off which was a nice bit of sportsmanship.

Even in the piping hot cauldron with everything on the line, he stayed composed.

After booting the most pressured fg possible, with a millisecond left, arm up and he goes for the run and then the exhaustion kicks in and it’s a composed skip and Half jig. A fist of triumph!

30,000 angry booing fans and he’s not put off, he’s too in the moment. Beaten everything in his path.

But it’s a team sport and we saw a lot of players rise to the occasion with him.

Normally a team chases us down we all foresee and expect a meek surrender. That dropped ball with the winger in space and the opponents getting their second wind shortly after. As night follows day!

So for mine, I hope his qualities are infectious.

He’s also said how great and friendly the ordinary Wests Tiger fan has been to him before the game. That reflects well on us. Giving him the benefit, he hasn’t always had that. He knows it when he sees it.

A lot of players would love to have that kind of game and impact. That’s why they play.

It wasn’t a business as usual millionaire marquee. It’s not for sale this stuff.

Anyway, the game will soon disappear into history, long way to go to get consistently competitive, no one is exactly drunk on success, but I think it’s good to sing a bit when winning.

So many good games. Starford cutting through 4 or 5, Nofo carrying 2 and then beating the King.

Laurie threw some good passes and Jacko/Brooks had some great fast moments.

A couple of twists of luck and we might have put another 2 or 3 on what people argue is a gf side.

Twal created his own kind of havoc. Lucy and Tamou lifted.

It’s not a popular call, but the Madge and co game plan was very well designed. A big lift to the coaching crew as a whole.

Not as many mistakes and a lot more control.

Even the four man rush on Moses at the end was value.

I hope we can keep backing up.

Hastings was on a mission, if mom was 4 points he would have earned it. I’m stoked for him, wherever he is under here!

It would’ve been good if twilight twally scored against his former club
I’m sure y’all don’t wanna see Alex AKA the beast from the Middle East do a nudie run 🏃‍♂️ 😨 🥴

The guy was the next big thing in junior football but his ego got the better of him going around telling everyone who his dad was and living off his dad's name telling everyone how good he is and what he is going to do

It's amazing what some humble pie did for him I am glad to see that the cart is not before the horse anymore I hope he has a great career at the Tiger's

That first paragraph doesn't match up with what he said on the Matty John's show.

He said he was never close with his father and the talk leading up to debut about his father embarrassed him.

His story is well publicised, I remember reading some player said they saw Jacko wearing speedos, staring into a mirror, flexing, saying "I'm Connor McGregor!!" 😂 ego through the roof but that statement, in your post... I would believe is false.

He use to ask him face to face one day

Yeah I heard the Connor story as well. But I also heard he was one of the very best juniors around at the time.

Didn’t he smash DCE and the other guy at Manly lol.

He’s got that touch of the mongrel dog about him that’s rare in our era of academy award winners. 18 stone forwards in tears but clutching the wrong side of their head!

I was wondering if Laurie is sending up Gutho when he does his little handy ear thing after a try?!

We were all waiting patiently for Laurie to slow down v Gutho, the next thing we saw was Guthos head sticking out from the hoarding and he was freestyle kicking the Front Row eels fans. Not that they didn’t recognise his face at the time.

Good footy that tackle, timed better than an atomic clock. NASA will use it for their next space mission to synchronise docking manoeuvres. Zero minus 5 on the Laurie Gutho in-goal wipe out metronome. Sounds good.

I could get used to this winning business

With the public holiday, I’m thinking we can squeeze a day or so extra out of the win before the sobering up.

I’m also thinking this is a footy dream and one of the kids is going to wake me up and I find out we were walloped 42 zip, Hastings did an bloody acl with Matts and Moses sharing the Dally Ms.

Can't find it but only just read this somewhere, as well as the Connor McGregor stuff.

I didn't catch him on the Matty Johns show but read the recent article on Fox Sports which added some of the things he discussed. Made me see him in another light and I, for one, commend him for his courage.
He knows of the club's poor image and would've dealt with the same type of scrutiny too. I now see his signing as a perfect match for us. He's been a little misunderstood IMO and you can see why he did build a wall up.

This is just a small portion of the article, for those didn't wish to read the full thing.

The 26-year-old half has been through an attitude change which saw him on the outer of previous clubs, the Roosters and the Sea Eagles.

Labelled as a superstar during his junior days, Hastings made his NRL debut at 18 for the Roosters playing 34 games over three seasons.

After his stint with the Roosters he signed a two-year deal with the Manly Sea Eagles where his ego and poor attitude were reportedly highlighted through off-field drama.

His time in England became a turning point in his career. For the first time in his rugby league journey Hastings felt that sense of belonging he never felt.

“It felt different, I probably never felt that in my life really,” Hastings said on Sunday Night with Matty Johns.

“It didn’t matter if it was under 15s for West Wollongong or being an 18-year-old playing for the Roosters, I never really got a reception off anyone.

“It was always, ‘look at this p***k running around’. I’ve literally had dad’s try and call me out when I was 14 behind the sheds.

“It was just a weird sort of vibe for me growing up. I didn’t really belong or fit in anywhere so to go over there and to literally be loved straight away and to be taken in was something that I never felt before.
