Jackson Hastings #251

Interesting the narrative was always Salford had no money for him after the GF appearance - I’m of the belief clubs make the money available for a player that had such an effect on the team / comp.

He said in the pod that he wanted to test himself at an elite club - and deal with the expectations that come along with it?

Also came across that the fact that “another club” had moved him on and the dint to his pride that it had happened again that hurt most…

Yeah thought we looked best last year with him at 13, and with more time there - who knows… History won’t know, he’s moved on.
I’m not so sure about us looking better with Hastings at 13? Possibly looked “different” than the 13s before him.
I recall watching a game where our 13 had 90 possessions, 20 tackles, while our half had 60 possessions and 30 tackles. IDK? He may have been instructed to take pressure off Brooks but regardless, it wasn’t flowing .

It was pretty obvious for all that wanted to look and/or could put bias aside that Hastings was better suited to the lock role at WT, along with Sheens wanting him to continue there behind an improved pack this season.

Jackson gets his opportunity to show if it works otherwise for Newcastle tomorrow.

Yeah. Is he a good footballer? Absolutely and miles ahead of Brooks, but he's definitely the kind of person all his teammates will think is a tosser. You can't have long-term success with guys like that in crucial positions.

For anyone bagging Hastings saying all he does is point and isn't fast enough. That attitude is half the reason this club sucks. Watch the good halfbacks, they never stop talking and demand the team execute the plays. Hastings isnt the best half by a long shot but shows more class than anyone on our current squad. I'd rather have a half that barks and leads his team around the park, rather than a half back thats supposedly fast but isn't smart enough for the NRL and doesn't have any confidence to grab this team by the balls and orchestrate attacking plays for 80mins.

As far as I'm concerned we let the wrong halfback go and we really needed a strong leader in at 7 yesterday.

Hastings may have hit Tommy in the face, but there was no malice in it and he was doing everything he could to stop a try.

Hastings also had the decency to try to apologise to Tommy after the game which most players wouldn't do.

We need to explore getting a new halfback now.
