OFFICIAL Jake Averillo # TBA

Cant read the attack when defending..and too slow to react when he does..Hes an easy target in centres
Its wing or nothing, and hes got a lot of work in front of him to achieve that
Getting fit in off season will help, but getting fast may be a challenge...
Hes no Marky Mark athletically..not many are btw..but hes more a young Skelton atm...
I was very disappointed in him this season, but glimpes in trials suggest hes worth pesevering with
put makasini in centres

He’s 18! Last year he was piss farting around behind the library in between periods .
Wtf are you talking about ?
Skelton , by contrast is 28/29 years old . A big dose of reality needed here . All the same hyped kids coming through all equally struggled until 21/22 . The big giant pom on the wing for the knights included . Cobbo … chuck him in there , Coates …. Was meh as a teenager .
Sunday should be all the evidence needed that the nrl is brutal . Every single dude in the team can dead lift 200kg , can do a sub 5 sec 40 , and hit elite times in endurance tests like the bronco .
There’s no let up . Every tackle , every run , every kick , every play the ball , are all little battles to be fought and won . Even the rests are strategically placed eg. walking back on side the first 2 tackles in transition .
The fact it’s not been a smooth ride for him is a good thing . It means he needs to uplift , hit the gym , hit the video and work on his craft .
Some of the spinning here ….. my god

Cannot agree more, we as supporters and the media put the expectations on him based off a trial performance.

He will be better for the experience and knowing that he needs to be better and he has shown through his junior career he is not someone who shirks his training and if you look at his interviews he does not lack confidence for a young man. I believe he was playing busted and due to our poor depth was being selected,in a stronger club would have been given a spell. Agree with a few forum members who suggest he has a lot to work on , however we need to temper it with he is only 19 and has plenty of time to get it right.

As for Averillo he is going to be great for us wherever he is selected.
I would look at playing him at centre to add some pace to the backline and look for Latu and Andrew’s in the halves for the future with Madden helping Latu to start the year and Andrew’s getting a few games in KOE but we will see how the off season pans out

Literally the worst player in the nrl is the best player he’d have ever played against at the start of the year .
I noticed comparisons to Saukuru and him … Saukuru is 4 years older … at some
Point in the next 24months it will be “wow” and “holy shit” when referencing him . But we need to chill on expectations .
Marky Mark ? He’s 24 . “I DoNt SeE it” people IMO are so prisoners of their emotions it’s out of control .

One thing all of these 3 players have is something you can’t buy or train
SPEED
Our bloke will never have it unfortunately

Cobbo isn’t that fast more power than speed

At present Douehi or Madden. But if it were me I would be going hard at one of the 2 young 7s at Canberra. Ethan Sanders and Coby Black both have big futures and with them having Strange at 6 one is surplus to requirements
You do realise our own rookie 6 was KOE cup 5/8 of the year and was blacks halves partner for qld 19s origin last year… Javon had almost double the try assists and line break assists as any other playmaker in KOE cup… and he wants to be here , Javon will do for me , all day everyday…

100% 💯 the so called supporters on here apart from being clueless are so fickle and even disloyal to our own players it’s sickening… makasini was 18 , and injured, in the NRL.. when he fires the same supporters will immediately start speculating that he will sign elsewhere, and if he was to read this forum and take it onboard I wouldn’t blame him.. also, he is fast enough, people are judging him on being run down by ponga and that was because he was already gassed and in the wet he almost conceded the tackle when he slowed down and started trying to fend behind him.. if you watch the first 50 maters he showed plenty of toe.. he hit a walll physically and psychologically

He ran a sub 11 100m when in schoolboys . And yes he did . I know onitoni did as well

Suffering from withdrawal symptoms already ,(which is sad, i know)i have started watching back replays of the tigers games this year. Have only covered 3 games so far but have been taking note of young Hamasi in each of these games. Where he was making errors he was also having good moments with the ball and in defence. The first game against the warriors for instance, he shows the maturity to actually let the Warriors player catch the ball in a high contest with out touching him in the air and giving away a penalty lets him land then stops him from scoring.Massive play and was noted by the commentary team for the play. As tiger Neddy has stated , he is very young and it was always going to be a learning curve. just getting used to the contact on ball carries is hard enough. My personal opinion is that nothing to fear here, he is going to be a great player, just will need the time and support to get there.

One of the long-standing issues at WTs, is that we have attempted to manufacture wingers from centres with moderate pace. More forward thinking is required to accept wing is a specialist position requiring amongst other attributes, genuine pace. Complement this with centres who are of okay pace but can hit a gap, are strong and can set-up their wingers as well as defend.

The sad thing is as supporters we dont even give these kids a minute to improve we expect them to be superstars minute one.

Jake will be an excellent addition can pass and has pace. Maka will develop and become a really good first grader imo. Will he be a superstar? We will have to wait and see. It was only 2 years ago; Cobbo wasn't wanted etc etc. Give them time to develop.

We have done this well with the young 5/8. A full year of nsw cup and he has excelled another year with the odd 1st grade game and we could have somehting special. IMO Maka the young hooker and tavana should all do the full nsw cup treatment.

A bit different on a football field, fast players are through a hole before they have the ball.
Steve Renouf
Steve Rogers
Russell Gardiner
Come to mind

Where some have to have the ball in their hands before taking off.
I hope you are right about his speed I just haven’t seen it in the games I have watched.

I'd say the way that Makasini ran 100 metres and the way Steve Renouf ( for example ) ran 100 were polar opposites
Steve reached his top speed very quickly and I'm guessing Makasini doesn't hit his top speed until 40 to 60 metres
It makes you wonder how quick Ponga is over 100
