James Maloney - Boot Burglar

Just wondering what are people's thoughts on the Maloney boot throwing incidents?
IMO it's blatant cheating and warrants a sinbinning at the very least. I thought his actions deserved a binning more so than what Burgess was binned for on Friday.
It's not a joke or a larrikin act like the media's making it out to be. If Paul Gallen, Greg Bird or Adam Blair did it they'd be crucified for it.
It's a huge disadvantage for the player and the team if the boot is irretrievable from the crowd and if they are forced into making an interchange in order to replace the boot, or forced to play on for a period without it.
I think it's a grub act and cheating. There is no room for it in the game.

Thoughts?

I agree, it's certainly not in the spirit of the game. I'd go as far as saying its in par with a professional foul and deserves 10 in the bin.

If I was a coach, the wrestling would be gone. Just train to rip a boot off and throw it as far as you can. That will slow them down.

First I'm hearing about it, what happened?

He ripped Kevin Gordons boot off in a tackle, then threw it into the crowd when the Titans were attacking the Roosters line. He did it again further up the field only throwing the boot 10 or so metres from the play. It's not the first time he's done it, he did it a few weeks back I can't recall who it was against, but he threw the players boot into the crowd on that occasion too.

I must admit I chuckled the first time it happened against Ferguson, but the fact is he's doing it repeatedly to gain advantage. Should be binned next time he does it.

Used to happen a lot

Dunno if they were thrown into the crowd though….usually at Lidcombe it was a bit too big.

Could cause some serious damage hitting someone in the head/eye

Unless parenthood has taught me nothing, I'm pretty sure all you need do at the start of the game is say "Swiper no swiping" and the problem is solved.

I don't think it is cheating but it is a dick move. Seems needless, tossing the boot off to the side does the trick. Most players would carry a few sets of boots to each game.

The advantage s gained because instead of the tackled bloke taking 10-15 seconds to replace the boot and continue playing, he either plays on without the boot while the staff find a replacement, to his disadvantage, or he leaves the field and replaces it using up an interchange.

Its not Maloney being a larrikin, he is purposelly trying to take a player out of the game, even if only for a short time.

Good to see that League is finally starting to take action on the more despicable acts of the game, I always hated seeing the tackled players face pushed into the ground when they were 'defenceless', I hate the 'cannonball' tackle, I hate every tactic that the Storm have introduced under Bellamy and while I have seen players boots thrown away I've never heard of them thrown into the crowd, didn't the Roosters coach used to be Bellyache's understudy.
P.S. I'm well aware that Terry Lamb didn't discourage Hoppa's roving finger!.

Not gonna lie I've done it before. But I threw it like 5 or 10m's away where the player could get it and it was school football.. So I didn't really care much! It's a grub act to do it, and throw into the crowd.

If a player throws another player's boot into the crowd the referee should penalise his team and sin bin the offending player untill such time as he finds a replacement boot. Sound childish but so is the offence.

Saw a good suggestion elsewhere.

Take both his boots off in every tackle that is made on him and toss them, he'll probably give it away then.
