James Roberts SIGN HIM

Accident waiting to happen, and could affect the ability to resign Tedesco.

That's what I was thinking, let's take the money out of Tedesco's contract upgrade.

I don't get the mentality in here, we are a cash-strapped club and people say "take a punt on this recidivist, he's worth it, only $100K", as if those kind of beans grow on trees or we have tonnes of salary cap to play with.

we are not cash strapped to sign new players. Every club gets 7 million dollars to cover their cap and 2nd tier cap. We can and will use pretty much the whole cap most years, so it makes no difference whether balmain is about to go under.

We sure are cash-strapped and it applies to the whole football operation. Regardless of whether or not we use the whole cap, I am asking whether it is right to use spare space in the cap on a player like J Roberts. That's 100K less we have to re-sign a Tedesco.

And you're telling me if Balmain goes bankrupt, nothing happens?

100% agree Milky.
Hes one of the fastest players in the game isnt he?

Would play him on the wing and backup fullback if necessary.

He might not get a chance at Penrith. Kev and Mansour will lock up the wings. Currently injured isnt he?

At the expense of who Demps? We have 4 or 5 quality wingers ourselves and a class fullback. Why waste at least $80K on a borderline troublemaker who we don't have a place for in our squad anyways.

Wasn't he going to the Dogs anyway?

Not sure i'd want him. we seem to have a good set of boys at the moment, with good attitude and bonding. an egotistical show pony could interrupt that. If he's willing to sign as a backup then maybe. Have him in NSW cup til he warrants a promotion.

At the expense of Lulia? I would rather Roberts than Lulia….Lawrence cant seem to keep injury free, I think he should start planning for life after footy tbh no disrespect intended.

Roberts is as talented as you get…..but again is it worth the risk.

TBF to ROberts all his indiscretions are minor, but unfortunately all to regular.

The players stood up for him and wanted him to stay, I think that is a good sign.

Ive a little bit to do with James ROberts (not much) and my gut feel is that he will get past the behaviour thing, and kill it.

Can't argue with an incentive or minimum contract.
Kid has raw talent and speed to burn.

However didn't he break his ankle preseason? That may affect his pace.

With Lawrence possibly facing a stint on the sidelines (and who knows how he will return when he does) he could be worth it for the remainder of the year. Re-assess whether he should be re-signed or not at the end of the season

pull or finger out Mayer and sign him now, don't listen to all the do gooders on her because if you do no one will get signed. We missed out on Mason, he has been great, no one wanted BJ LULIEA (not sure of spelling) he has been great, again no one on here wanted Dane GAGI an other class act at present. People on here didn't want Carney, has been great for sharks. JUST SIGN HIM AND GET ON WITH IT.

Roberts signs two-year deal with Titans

James Roberts has signalled his intention to earn the respect of his new Titans teammates after signing a two-year deal with the club.

The 21-year-old fullback/winger signed with the Gold Coast on Monday having been sacked by the Panthers earlier this month, this likely representing his last shot at securing a long-term NRL career.

The immensely talented outside back has scored 11 tries in 16 NRL appearances having made his debut in 2011 and playing 10 games for South Sydney that season.

It will be at least six weeks before Roberts is able to return to the field as he recuperates from an ankle injury and prepares himself for an NRL on the Gold Coast, where he spent some of his youth.

Roberts is thankful for the opportunity to work with the likes of former Penrith teammate Brad Tighe plus Preston Campbell, the club’s Titans 4 Tomorrow and Indigenous figurehead, as he establishes himself on the Gold Coast, and playing with childhood friend Albert Kelly.

“My priority is to work hard on earning the respect of everybody at the club and hopefully be back on the field in six to eight weeks,” said Roberts, who was man of the match in last year’s Holden Cup grand final won by the Panthers.

Titans coach John Cartwright said he is excited to have someone of Roberts’ outstanding attacking capabilities at the club and looks forward to providing a positive and professional environment for him to fulfil his undoubted potential and establish himself as a regular NRL player.

on field Great signing for the Titans, they need class in the backs and Roberts has loads of it.
off the field a different story, putting Kelly and Roberts together a risk and the gold coast strip might prove to alluring.
Hope it goes well, I reckon he is a pretty good kid overall, with no decent role models until recently.
As a footballer he is super talented
