James Roberts

Centre James Roberts had successful surgery late last month after ongoing back issues. There was talk the former NSW Blues speedster could be staring down the barrel of a medical retirement.

But the senior Tigers staff told News Corp Roberts is expected back onto the training paddock in the next month
Having a back injury and still playing is admirable in JTJ case,he still made himself available when we were short...he must have been in pain to have surgery and I hope he has a speedy recovery...
It just goes to show I said that JTJ must be carrying an injury and thats why he isnt playing his normal speedy game,no wonder with a back injury,it also shows why he wasnt given much ball at times...
Come on guys blame the pokies,he is a has been, should be in NSW cup and all the other garbage some on here were spruiking because things werent going there way...
The guy was an origin player who I still think can help this team and club...I hope he does and some on here who think they know better, really dont know what goes on at all...God bless JTJ and help him heal....

Thanks TD,a guy of JTJ calibre that needed some help with his mental health issues but still had a competative nature in him, needed someone to reach out a hand in support,Madge and co did just that and JTJ took only minimum for the chance to reignite his old self...unfortunately injuries happen but Im willing to bet he will come back stronger and we will see some of his old form back...even though he had pain he still played as best he could and did offer more this year than Joey did in 2 years for us..

Even if Jimmy hasn't turned out to be a revelation for us on the field, I would hope that we have at least been some sort of help to him with whatever issues/demons he may have.

It's reasonably clear to me at least that he has done whatever he could for us on the field even while carrying an injury and it's not as if he has done irreparable damage to our cap.

I don't know what the story was when he left Souffs and walked away from a pretty good contract but I get the impression that he is a pretty honest sort of a character and was grateful to get a fresh start here.

I think Souths couldnt offer him help with the "demons"as you say because he was surrounded by influences that also impacted his game, such as the drink and indigenous bros...not finger pointing at anyone but maybe JTJ realised he was in a no win situation as far as improving his life...when he was at the Broncos he played reasonably well,he went downhill at the Rabbits I think and he deadset needed help, thats when Madge and Co reached out a hand ...his attitude is great around the youth,I also think he appreciates this club and if wasnt injured would be nearly back to the dynamic player that got him to origin level...

Wonder why souths flicked him. Absolute revelation for us 🙄
Most long serving members in the forum know I have aboriginal relatives and I get really defensive and supportive about indigenous affairs.
In years gone by when the aboriginal people who treated terribly, a lot of them worked on remote cattle and sheep stations. Just when you think they were happy and secure they would simply walk out, hence the term "he's gone walkabout"
It's bred into their core make up to do this, they would without warning, pack up camp in the bush and go walkabout... to the next watering hole. [Been doing that for thousands of years]
It's very hard to tie an Aboriginal man down, they get restless.
JTJ is not far removed from pure aboriginal blood and I would imagine he would fight the demons as they say.
I don't know what happened at Souths, but I do know Jimmy has had issues with the grog and has gone walk about a few times.
Him knowing Madge, a bit like a father who knows his son, it was natural for him to reach out to him.
The fact he took up a train and trial contract and play without the big dollars indicates to me he wants to stay.
Whatever happens, I hope he is looked after by the club and utilized in Aboriginal pathways and development.
He was a superstar in my eyes and it's been a while since he played SOO.
Now it's time for him to rebuild for the future...good luck to him I say.

He was a superstar in my eyes and has fallen from grace. Now it's time for him to rebuild for the future...good luck to him I say.
I love your sensible input Cobar, the only thing I will say re your post is that JTJ hasnt fallen from grace, rather external influences have impacted his life in such a way that he needed help mentally...Madge and co could see what JTJ could offer us and have reached out to him,he will get back on track after he recovers surrounded by much better influences and his personal want to help the youth...Its a bit like our Lord our saviour...he always sees the good in us and not the bad,we all have the ability to repent....

Absolutely.
I agree that the term fall from grace is probably not the right word, more like I was trying to say he was a SOO player and played in the big arena and now he's fighting his way back, 👍

He shows Daine where the pokies are, that is a good thing. Gamble responsibly folks

If we have helped Jimmy with his issues, it would be a good thing for us pitching players in the future. E.g. "We helped James Roberts do x and y in his life, this is why you should believe in WT and sign."
