OFFICIAL James Tamou [Discussion]

Tamou sucks ..
Where did all the Tamou fan boys go ?

Im still here...He was bought in to be a leader and experienced NRL player for the young guys to learn from...
none of us know how Madge wants him to play his role...
is it limited time on field so the younger ones gain more experience,is he having much input in training to teach the young guys how to play their position, does he have one on one with the group in the background,,these are all things that only the players and Madge know ,we arent privvy to much else...
Im not a fan boy but I respect what he has done over the years in one of the toughest comps in the world...no mean feat if you havent got what it takes...

I think Tamou's form 2021, as said by others, is significantly affected by the club he's playing for and the type of roster Tigers currently have. For example, Tamou currently opens the exchanges with an inexperienced prop, against sides that want to dominate Tigers early (sides know they can knock Tigers out of the game with an extra- aggressive start).

Compare to 2020 when Tamou took to the field with one of the comp's most in-form forwards JFH, but also backed up by career-peak Yeo.

Tamou may also be impacted by the NRL's rule-changes 2021 to reduce stoppages (6-again on penalties, PTB restarts on touch finders etc.).

A corollary might be someone like Jordan McLean who (without looking at his stats) was a highly effective front-rower for the Storm, and almost invisible at the Cowboys.

Tamou is definitely down, but the reason isn't cut-dry to me.

James Tamou is a bit like a used ute.

Has a few km's on the clock and has seen better days but will get you from point A to point B until you get something newer and better.

C’mon man.. give it more thought ?
He’s always been rubbish .. dragged along by Taumalolo and Scott and Webb at the cows ..
Dragged along by Fisher Harris and Yeo and co at the Pamfers ..
Another piss poor purchase ..

Another piss poor purchase …

He was cheap and for 2 years so I don't see too much downside.

The problem is he was made captain. I reckon he is a good option in our middle forward rotation but giving him the captaincy wasn't the right call because you have to keep picking him unless he is injured.

350k a year isn’t cheap for what he’s done on and off the field..
agree on making the plodder a captain.

No one really stands out or stood out should I say when they recruited him for captain...maybe AD or one of the others down the track...but atm he is the elected captain and we have to respect the decision makers for that...we dont have to agree as many dont, but what do we do....

That there is less than what we are paying Mbye next year to play for Saints. 350k would be an average NRL salary. We got an average player.

We could’ve got 2 Stefano’s for $350k .. whichever way you want to spin it Tamou is up there with Anasta with garbage buys ..

[barra]

No way can you bring in Stef as a comparison mate!
But I'm sure the club would certainly take two of him for $350k please point us in the right direction?

Personally don't have a problem with what he is doing for the coin and short contract, welcome to the WT pack James... where you earn every metre the hard way!

$350k is fine but if they're any good the jump to $700k doesn't take long to come around if you want to keep them.

There is no way we get 2 stefanos for $350k.

@hobbo1 - if you can make those signings you need to be our recruitment manager.

They got him to teach our young forwards, like Stefano, how to be a professional.
Seems to be working.

It’s the tale of two packs – the Panthers 2020 pack versus the WT 2021 pack.

The Panthers dominated the middle in attack and defence. Each player benefiting from the momentum created by his teammates running the ball and dominating their opposition in defence with line speed and dominant tackles.

Our pack rarely dominates and Tamou’s numbers reflect that.

I imagine if Stefano played for the Panthers this year, his numbers would be even better than they are with us.
A player’s performance can be lifted by the quality of the players around him.

Doesn't it start with your front rower though?

[Tiger_Fanatic3]

I can see why panthers kept JFH

[innsaneink]

I remember being very unimpressed with him when he was at NQ and got selected for the Blues

More like Stefano is a natural

Yeah, he is painfully average.
He is about as good a captain as Mbye.
