James Tedesco Signs with Roosters [Official]

If you're going to be demanding Jonathon Thurston type money, you need to have a Jonathon Thurston type impact on a side.

I don't doubt Teddy's ability for a moment, but he isn't worth the reported $1.2m (or whatever it was) that we had on the table for him. We are a better side with him on the park, but he does not have the consistent game changing impact week in, week out that the champion players do.

For that type of money he should be leading the team into the finals and having a huge impact on the side every week. He just doesn't do that consistently … nor do many fullbacks for that matter (couple of exceptions).

When the Roosters have a good year, he will flourish and look like a world beater. When they have their traditional year or two down the bottom of the ladder, he will look plain ordinary. That's how it is with outside backs.

Would have loved him to stay, but we can buy 2 or 3 other solid players for that money, and save our Marquee dollars for a player that can consistently lead us around the park to victory on a regular basis. We just need to find that player.

I feel sorry for the kiddies out in the Campbelltown and Macarthur regions who looked up to him. The reality being he was always in transition at the WTs and even after signing his previous contract after back flipping on the Raiders, his comments about not being rushed again into signing a new contract revealed his true intent. I have never been a supporter of Tedesco and always believed Jack Wighton to be a superior footballer. Nothing I have seen from Tedesco has changed my view and hope in the future we can bring Wighton to the Club.

Yeah, my cousin posted a photo of her 5 year old son getting a photo with him at a training clinic yesterday, somewhere out there. It made me sick to my stomach. I know players have zero responsibility to supporters, but it's pretty devastating having to tell little kids that idolise these guys that they will be playing for a different team next year.

Parramatta lost Jarryd Hayne, Roosters lost RTS, Canberra Lost Milford, Melbourne lost Greg Inglis and the Titans lost James Roberts. Look at what happened to those teams after they lost those players. Parramatta are the best example. Now that Haynes gone they have become a far more balanced team and are again in finals contention.

😱pen_mouth: Parramatta haven't won a Comp since 1986..the last time they made a GF ..Jarred Hayne was in the team and carving teams to shreds…they then began to rort the salary Cap to try and do so....so not the best example No...

It's OK though to try and justify the loss of Tedesco...

Hayne had to carry the team on his back to get to that GF and even when they got there no one gave them a chance of winning it. I'd think they're in a better position now with a more balanced team. If they hadn't had to get rid of Peats and Paulo, I'd say they'd be a top 4 team this year.

Of course Parra are in a better position now than with Hayne. They ended with the spoon almost every year he was there.

I hope we don't

I was thinking… damn how does this happen!

But then I realised. The very side that took him went through something similar only a short while ago losing RTS who was considered the number 1 fb in the game by many to NZ. Now they land Teddy.

It happens and clubs recover.

I guess with RTS he was returning to his roots when he left the Chooks, where Teddy is ripping the roots out of the ground and getting replanted in the Botanical gardens

Though a little different situations but Teddy has grown up a Rooster supporter as has his family,so in some sense Teddy is also returning to his roots

Exactly.
I was reading that he wanted to try out for roosters sg ball team years ago but didn't think he would make and trailed with tigers.
He always wanted to be a rooster.

I think you will find he was only going to trial with the Roosters because he wasn't going to be offered a spot with the Tigers, then at the 11th hour Tigers offered him a spot and that's why he ended up with us.

Either way as much as I hate the way this has been handled and the undeniable loss that he is I think we will be better off in the long term. We can now build a champion team not a team of (4) champions (in their own minds)!!

Good to see Tedesco has gone to such a stable club like Roosters that just had a player caught with drug possession over night. I wish him nothing but bad luck especially after listening to his interview on radio this morning.

This 'Wighton > Tedesco' shaped hill is a bizarre one to die on.

Anyway, Tedesco predictably blamed the WT imposed deadline for leaving this morning. It'd be great if these guys stop lying to their own fans for five mins.

The star NRL fullback, who signed a four-year deal to join the Sydney Roosters next season on Thursday, also criticised the Tigers' decision to make the deadline public.
>
"Yeah, possibly. We needed more time and they wanted the decision quickly," Tedesco told Sydney radio station C91.3FM when asked if he could have stayed at the Tigers.

Just checked outside. The sun has actually still come up.

Also, googled 'Big 4' and only caravan parks came up.

The Big 4 is over, thats all yesterdays news, we can now all move on with clarity.

It's now the BIG 17.

Has the value of Teddys contract been disclosed yet or are they still trying to fit it under the SOMBRERO.
If I hear once more that he signed for less I'll puke ,as the great Tooves once said THERE NEEDS TO BE AN INVESTAGATION.
The number of clubs that have advanced fron Salary Cap to Sombrero is alarming and the NRL need to wake up and start to take control of the game again
Has anyone thought how much that Grub Moses (Agent)has made out of all the shenanigans that have been going on.The Tigers need to make a stand and refuse to deal with him,out of the five tigers under his care (there maybe more ,not sure) we have held only one at a fair price. IT MUST NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN THAT ONE PERSON HAS SUCH CONTROL.
At least come 2018 we will be back on an even keel not paying for any one at another club only looking after our own onward and upward.

James Tedesco says he may have remained a West Tiger had new coach Ivan Cleary not imposed a deadline on him to re-sign.

The NRL star said the opportunity for a fresh start at the Sydney Roosters was behind him agreeing to a four-year deal from next year on Thursday.

But the incumbent NSW fullback lambasted the Tigers over their failed process to re-sign him, including the decision to make the deadline public.

When asked if he could have stayed at the NRL strugglers had they not imposed the deadline, the 24-year-old Tedesco said: "Yeah, possibly."

"Ivan told me and my management that they wanted an answer by the Friday that week," he told Sydney radio station C91.3FM.

"We both said then that we weren't ready to make a decision yet and he was pretty adamant that he wanted an answer by the end of the week.

"They made it public too, which was a bit - I don't know, I didn't really think there was a need for that. It would just play out more in the media.

"We told them before they put that out in the media that we needed to make a decision.

"We needed more time and they wanted the decision quickly."

Tedesco also singled out Cleary for possibly putting too much pressure on his contract extension too early in his coaching tenure after taking over from the sacked Jason Taylor in March.

But he backed Cleary's efforts at the club.

"Ivan just started at the club and I still didn't know how he was as a coach," Tedesco said.

"I think he's been great, personally, as coach. We've had some really strong results with him.

"It was just disappointing to have that. But that's the way they wanted to do it and you can't really do much about it now."

Tedesco, the reigning Dally M fullback of the year who played his sole State of Origin match last year, expressed disappointment over departing the Tigers.

"The family … we didn't think we'd leave the Tigers," he said.

"Obviously, I'm a Tigers junior and grew up out that way. But they're excited for me and they want what's best for me.

"I'm looking forward to a fresh start. We're looking forward to starting a new journey.

"It's obviously tough. The fans are always passionate about the club and I can understand that. They've supported me through a lot of ups and downs."

Oh come on James, you expect us to believe that!….what you dont explain is WHY you needed kore time....wasn't 4 months and a long term $1.2M pa long enough to make your mind up?.You had NO intentions of signing with the WT...if that is the reason you left, then you are weak as...Do these Guys think we are that dumb to believe their tripe?....POQ all of them!

U had an offer on the table for months, u had no intention of signing. Stop trying to justify the BS, just be honest and say u werent going to stay.

Oh, it's the club's fault that it was played out in the media, was it? That's pretty funny! Managers like Moses use the media all the time to get what they want…
