or your chances of succeeding is very slim. The ridiculous ridiculing of Teddy and Woods for not showing a level of loyalty expected of them is becoming tiresome.
All the players we have signed have done so for money and opportunity - no different to Teddy and Woods. You could easily argue that Packer and Matalino both owed their current clubs - who both wanted to retain them - yet both chased the higher offers in their own best interest. Lucky for us not so for Warriors or Saints.
Gagai knew how important he was to Newcastle didnt stop him from signing with Souths - money opportunity location who knows but what ever the reasons they became a deciding factor over loyalty.
And the only real reason that fans are so filthy is because they are quality players no one really cares too much about how loyal a player wants to be if they are rubbish -
cant get rid of them quick enough.
Fans are the primary stakeholders in rugby league - by far the largest number, biggest "voting", strongest financial input.
So if fans want to ridicule footballers for being "disloyal" (however you define that), then what are you going to do? It's like trying to stop people booing at games, they are just going to boo more if you make a big deal out of it.
If every player was to be loyal then the NRL would be won by the same teams year after year, as there is no change of rosters.
How would you feel if the Tigers were coming last and all the players were 'loyal' and got the wooden spoon every year?
Telltails said it well how players don't have to be loyal. I am sure everybody is fine with our 2018 signings to come to Concord and not be loyal to their previous clubs. Loyalty is one aspect, but whatever benefits both parties (club & player) should take priority.
What fans want is for the players to give back to the club. As jirskyr said, fans are the primary stakeholders in rugby league. So the players should give back to the loyal fans (like myself and many others here) by saying good things about the club and that they are sad to leave. This is why many on this forum are upset and angry on the departure of Moses, Teddy & Woods, as the didn't give back to the club that gave so much to them.
That's a well thought out post mate and you make some great points.
Each fan, player and club official is different and responds differently. Loyalty in commerce is a myth. The only loyalty is to the bank balance.
