OFFICIAL Jarome Luai - #295

This guy needs to remember his role in this team.
He is on massive coin and has to deliver results.
He has to lead, he has to orchestrate victories and come up with the clutch plays himself occasionally. We brought him here to help with the rebuild and in part to deliver wins this season. So far he has been underwhelming.
His sinbnning last week and his second half today have both been causes in these losses. His record here is 5 & 7 this year and that’s not great considering quite a few of those 7 losses could have gone either way.
It seemed to me today he was playing excellent, controlled and focused footy in the first half and then became fixated on beating his old club and upstaging Cleary in the second half. Had he stayed the course he set in the first 40, easily his best this year, then we likely get the win.
Agree. His first half was gold, his second half was bog average.

Im really looking forward to him being the main guy now Galvin has bolted. Galvins plays reminded me of Gallon how he played for years in Origin, thinking he was killing it by taking 3 basic dumbass hit ups a set to stifle any momentum. Its Jerrys team and he can now take the team by the horns, nobody has to play the fluffer role to keep the diva happy at 6.

Injuries have been a Tigers curse for years. Latu fit and in the halves with Jerry would have turned 3-4 of those loses to wins, and wins easily.

You make some sense when your not dribbling politics

he took a lot more action tonight ,not a fan of him being constant end of set kick
He is still learning to be a 7 again.
Hopefully his kicking gets better soon.

What is it about our team and its aversion to true halfbacks? Prince then Lui, then nothing. We had Moses at 6 with Brooks at 7, ?

Probably but we lost ! Again ! Another close one ! Again !
When does all this development materialise into a winning team that sits in the top half of the ladder ?
That’s all I want from them.
This time really hurts.
6 mins out Bula about to score and Sorensen takes him out with a classic hip drop.
Should have been a penalty try.
But you're right.
"Probably but we lost ! Again ! Another close one ! Again !" 😡

Luai was good. He needs Latu to fire at 7. Game is about balance you need threats all over the park they just mark up on Luai. Rugby league is a simple game assembling a great team is hard for battlers like the Tigers.
Amazes me that we have had to come this far into the season to realise the high priced 5/8 we signed from the Premiers was not a 1/2 back. I think that was due to wonder boy Galvin clouding the waters..
Think him going will enable the team to slot into their rightful positions. I thought we went well today, just a few small things stopped us winning, but good teams find a way to win and whilst we get close we can’t ice it. Very frustrating !!

This club has a learning disability, a Tigers sticker on your car should allow you to park in the disabled spots in car parks.

How long did we persist with a junior 5/8 in Brooks at halfback? Johhny Cronk, Marshall, Farah!!

Its always been 7. Latu. 6. Jerry. Just have to wait for the Tigers to catch up.

About 4-5 guys in the Top 17 now need to be in 18-30 next season … AD, Seyfarth , Twal, Bird and Hunt ..the squad would be looking real good then

Get busy Richo
After KPP we need 3 more quality first grade standard signings to be a top 4-6 squad. we desperately need a centre, backrower and front rower. The squad we have currently would be quality depth fill ins. AD, Shit stains, Bird, Twal, Seyfarth, Royce etc would be decent back up for injuries. Our 2025 first grade squad is basically an NRL squad playing with the real line up out injured and we have managed to stumble over some wins. Easy to say but all it would take would be a few more signings to be in the top 4. Get May, Get Fifita, Get on it Richo.

We know Galvin was the direct result of losing a couple of games this year (bombed try vs Souths etc). Along with all the turmoil in the sheds now gone with that diva, that also plays a part in the cohesion of the team, I reckon with him not even being here this year we would have won at least 1 or 2 more games this year anyway. We saw how much better the attack was last night without Galvin killing every play.

3 signings and Galvin gone = Top 4-6 squad.

The Storm cap after picking up that Titans prop must be bursting at the seams now, talk about Kamikamica being let go he's 31 but built like a tank could fill a spot at prop for 2 seasons looks fit as.

‘The finished article’: Five ways Jarome Luai has already improved the Tigers

Wests Tigers may still be outside the top eight, but the signing of Jarome Luai has already been hailed a success.

Tigers CEO Shane Richardson praised Sunday’s rivals, premiers Penrith, for presenting the Tigers with the “finished article”.

“Penrith provided him with the polish that’s made him what he is, on and off the field,” Richardson said.

“At our club’s he’s the alpha leader, he’s taken on that role, and I’ve been surprised at how good he has done at that role. I’m just glad we’ve got him.”

Luai inked a $6 million, five-year deal with the Tigers, and while his sole focus is winning premierships, there are five simple way he has already improved his new club.

Natural-born leader

Coach Benji Marshall quickly elevated Luai to the co-captaincy alongside Api Koroisau. The dummy-half, who played with Luai at the Panthers, noticed how far the halfback had come in terms of leadership.

“When he talks, it’s right on point, there’s no fluffing about,” Koroisau said. “As a leader, there are a lot of times when you want to say things, but you’re unsure if it’s the right time. But he picks his times, knows exactly what to say and when to say it.”

Improved Koroisau’s game

Koroisau has always been a dominant dummy-half, especially last year when Lachlan Galvin was still learning his craft, and there was no one dominant playmaker.

But with Luai’s arrival, Koroisau has noticed teams devoting much of their attention to him, which in turn has started to open up more space through the ruck.

The Dolphins only had eyes for Luai and Galvin in a recent match, and Koroisau was able to pinch easy metres before scoring a try.

“Everyone watches him when he’s on the field,” Koroisau said. “They’re waiting for him to get the ball, [looking] at the shape on his outside, which frees up the middle of the ruck a bit more, and that helps my game.

“People are always watching him. He’s a big talker out there, which has helped me as well.”

Long kicking game

There were plenty of questions about how Luai would handle running a team now he was without former halves partner and Penrith chief controller, Nathan Cleary.

Panthers coach Ivan Cleary noted Luai had started to take on more responsibility last year while Nathan was out injured, and part of that transition included doing a lot of more work on his long kicking game.

“He’s always had a good short game, but his long game is definitely getting better,” Cleary said this week. “He’s touching the ball more, being around both sides of the footy, and dangerous.”

A marketer’s dream

The Tigers brand has been boosted by Luai and his natural charisma and charm in front of the camera and with sponsors. Richardson cannot recall the last time the recruit knocked back a chance to promote one of the club’s community or Polynesian programs in Sydney’s west.

Before Christmas, at his first signing session with fans at Concord, Luai stayed back for nearly an hour and a half after training to sign every autograph and pose for every photo.

Anthony Field, blue Wiggle and longtime Tigers fan, has spent his entire life in the entertainment industry. After welcoming Luai and a few of the players into the recording studio at the start of the year, he was so blown away by Luai’s vocals he said he was prepared to produce an album for him.

Overdue professionalism

The best thing about signing premiership-winners is they know the lofty standards required to achieve success.

Luai has had a direct influence on the squad’s youngsters, with Richardson saying: “He sets a good example for the younger players, and has shown them what you need to do to be a professional – he’s the ultimate professional.”

Marshall said on Saturday: “Jarome’s impact on the club, you can’t measure it. In terms of what he’s brought to us in terms of standards, professionalism, competing on every play, leadership, all the things he’s really good at, he’s been outstanding for us.

“We won six games last year, four games the year before, and four games [in 2023]. We’ve won five so far [in 2025] – we’re not happy with that, we think we’ve got more in us, but he’s added a lot to us. We love having him here.”
I agree with all this (except maybe the long kicking game) but outside of half a game against Panthers he has not been performing particularly well on the field. He hasn't been bad, or lacked for effort. He just has not delivered to his pay bracket.
I do think he has been somewhat hamstrung by few attacking threats outside him and inexperience partnering him. Nonetheless he has failed to take control when games are on the balance and produced very little attack himself.
I'm not a hater, I think it is great the club has signed him. Assuming Latu Fainu develops as expected (or perhaps Mason better than expected) and we get him a running threat on the edge or centre outside him I think he will eventually deliver on field as well as continue to do so off field. He simply has not yet.
