There’s grubs and nigglers. He’s a niggler. Mahoneys a niggler. I think there’s less grubs around these days but I’ll name Billy slater, terry lamb, Hoppa, Nate Myles and Danny Williams.

Of course he is.
To be honest, I dislike him more than any other player in the comp.
This year will be a struggle lol….especially if he plays well.

I rarely agree with Tucker but have always thought he was a grub trying hard to like him

He’s a poor loser and even poorer winner.
He treats his opponents like they are dirt, always chirping at them just out of punching range…very much like Ennis used to.
The way he screams in opponents faces when his team scores rubs me the wrong way. Standing over players on the ground in that origin series and berating them when Cleary was doing all the work.
He also annoyed me with the over the top crap when repping Samoa in the WC.
I also thought he was selfish playing in the 23 GF whilst injured.

Anyway…let’s see how he goes for us.

I don't think he's a grub.

For me a grub is a fairly average player who compensates for a lack of ability and builds a career mostly around dirty tricks and deliberate foul play. Darren Senter, MIck Ennis, Glen Morrison, all grubs, (but each played a fair amount of footy in their career.)

Luai is more in the Billy Slater/Terry Lamb category of a great rep player with a nasty side. Dirty? sometimes, but can also win you a grand final or an origin series. I'd rather have a great, ultra-competitive half in our side, than say, a polite and quiet bbq enthusiast.

I certainly had this take but I think he’s maturing. I thought his interviews and body language were much less arrrogant in 24.

At the very least, Tigers need a grub who can back it up on the field 🤣

Yeah I agree.... I couldn't stand him a few years ago but even before we knew he was coming here I think '23 he began to mature and he didn't annoy me any more...that was quickly replaced by Reed Mahoney... Even his ear hates him

Let's be honest, only Queenslanders think Luai's a grub. The cognitive dissonance is strong.

Comparing Luai (niggler at worst) to Slater (knees in the back, boot in the face, tripping, sliding in stud first) isn't even close. Both great players but one has far more illegal acts than the other. And there are far more grubby players than both of them.
