What do you think caused Benji to walk out of the post game presser when asked to expand on his statement, “there were crucial moments during the game which contributed to the loss.”
I could be way off target? The other options are Benji carried the young vs old players game into the game plan causing Luai to display some dumb obedience? But he’s too mature for that. Or, the micro managing of Luai? Or, Luai was still acclimatising being in a Tigers jersey?
What I do know is we should have won that game and Luai could have won it for us if he played his natural game.

This is what it felt like. He wasn’t his normal self.

I thought it weird that Luai was off having a drink when they were deciding tap or go for 2. Like he wasn’t invested in the leadership position or a lack of heirachy.

He was very apologetic to the ref. Hard to know what’s going on there?
Maybe the young vs old nonsense Benji using as a motivator is having a negative effect? Is it common for a 6 to handle the ball more than the 7?
This upcoming game may leave us with more questions than answers?
 
Week 1 I was critical of Luai not being involved enough. Week 2 he addressed that majorly. Some of his involvement was elite. We finally have shape by play 3 of return sets and our backs are seeing more ball. I am optimistic going forward if we continue to play like this.

Also his defence is insane. I thought I was watching Joey Johns tackle at times.

Your right about his defence. Great technique and makes the right call. Stops then straight up to. Must be stronger than he looks
 

Panthers in crisis as Jarome Luai truth laid bare amid latest Penrith horror show against the Rabbitohs​

For the first time in more than six years Penrith have lost three straight games as Ivan Cleary is left to deal with a brutal Jarome Luai truth.

The past few seasons Penrith have lost several big names but defied the odds and remained the team to beat in the NRL.
However, in 2025 they find themselves with just a single win in four matches after going down 28-18 against the Rabbitohs on Thursday night.

It is the first time Penrith have lost three games straight since 2019 and they have now conceded more points than they did across the opening 13 rounds in 2021, the year their premiership reign began.

And while the defeat can be in part put down to the absence of star halfback Nathan Cleary it is being abundantly clear that the Panthers have lost a lot of their bite without Jarome Luai.

Luai has become an immediate success at the Tigers, helping them to a 2-1 start, helping the perennial wooden spooners become a legitimate chance of playing finals footy.

While at the foot of the mountain, his former side are desperately missing his leadership and talk in both defence and attack.

Time and time again we have seen Penrith lose star players and replace them effortlessly but this time it seems different.

Ivan Cleary's Panthers have struggled without Jarome Luai.

Jack Cole and Brad Schneider continue to do a job in the halves but they lack Luai’s creative spark.

While new recruit Blaize Talagi – who was touted as Luai’s replacement – couldn’t make the 17 even with Cleary out as he recovers from a concussion as Ivan Cleary reportedly holds major concerns over his defensive capabilities.

And in the end Thursday’s 28-18 loss masked what was a horror first-half showing as the four-time premiers.

Such was their shocking opening 40 minutes they were booed by fans off the pitch at half time as they only completed 50 per cent of their sets.

And as another Penrith horror performance is in the books for 2025, it appears Brent Read may have been on the money pre-season, with the veteran journalist saying before Penrith’s round one match there is “no way” anyone should consider them premiership favourites.

It's his defence that has impressed me the most. The talk and structure as well as his technique. Galvin is decent as well. Good to have halves that can tackle for a change.
 
He still has a lot of improvement to go. He needs to step up more when we're attacking inside the 20, we seem so clueless and lack leadership to put on set plays. Same goes for our 5th tackle options. The positive has been his defensive and talk.

But it's very early days and I know it's going to take time for this team to gel having so many new players come in. The main thing is we've won games when we still aren't even close to our best. Onwards and upwards!

If we aren't complaining about being terrible, we are complaining at either the refs for making us terrible, or Starford LMAO
