OFFICIAL Jarome Luai - #295

Why did Terrell come out and say they forgot about our extension ? Bus stops with the CEO
As I just explained, Benji has full control of our recruitment and retention. He uses Shannon Gallant to assist him and our CEO has the rubbber stamp it all, but Benji is in control and can make any player and offer at any time, therefore the buck does not stop with our CEO.
I’d say we are highly likely in the process of making Terrell a very good offer to remain with us, but if he’s happy to live in PNG and make a little bit more money, we cannot compete with that.

I think it’s a pretty low risk anything happens …but yeah it’s not zero…

I said when this was first proposed … it’s pretty unprecedented in World sport that I can think of …it would be like the NFL putting a team permanently based in Mexico City ..
Quality of life is non existent. Enjoying the resort will only last so long. They will want to get out.

Marshall communicates well with the media which is a huge positive for WTs. The manner in which WTs dealt with this difficult issue has been admirable. Players throughout the NRL will imo warm to Marshall and his capacity to communicate positively with them.
Mate weve dealt with this difficult and.unwelcome.situation for some brilliantly imo.
Done and dusted in less than 3 days.
No specualtion...no agents BS.

Benji is an NRL head coach. He can not be fully responsible for recruitment & retention. Shaun has no experience with the salary cap & negotiations and Shannon was in junior recruitment. What a sht show

Yes obviously. Doesn’t mean our inability to retain players isn’t an issue. Administration is responsible for that

Of course it’s an issue …

This could take another six months or more to resolve … it takes both parties to agree the deal and the administration still needs to act as carefully as they can…

Just because the player hasn’t signed …doesn’t mean the admin haven’t done anything …

While somewhat disappointing to lose a player of stature and influence such as Luai's (particularly due to the media spectacle being caused), hopefully the club can make the right steps from here and it is only a positive.

As others have said, Luai will be potentially starting a decline from his prime anyway, given one of his main weapons is his herky-jerky and unpredictable style of play, reliant on agility and spontaneity of decision-making. There was also the looming conundrum of the halves logjam. It was only a couple of weeks ago many of us were wondering if the team was better with Jock in it. Luai's influence on team attitude and culture has been remarkable in a short time and in many ways his job is done. His on-field value for money has been questionable.

If the following can occur, things should continue looking good for years to come (in some sort of order of priority).

- extend Latu and Samuela (pray that Latu stays injury free to realise his potential and surpass the talents of Luai)
- extend the May brothers, which will likely need to include the sweetener of signing Tyrone
- re-sign Bula and hope that he continues to improve to become close to elite
- extend Makasini
- extend Turuva
- modestly upgrade and extend Madden as halves insurance for a bit longer
- continue to develop Javon nicely
- lean on Douehi for his leadership and transition him to lock in a couple of years

As always, continue to identify and develop the best of our juniors and make astute external signings to flesh out the squad when needed.

Not asking too much, am I?!

Makes you wonder why Richo appointed him as his No 2 …

He is not a total incompetent..he has worked in the NRL before and been a CEO at a successful A league club … his main issue is he probably doesn’t know NRL salaries

Terrell had agreed and by his words we forgot about it. Not holding my breath

He’s astute with the business and community side of things. Richo ran a one man show because he had the experience and could teach him. Shaun’s apprenticeship cut short like Benji’s lol

Look …this might drag on for 6 months or more …so it’s going to be a long time to have this level of frustration you have for something you have no direct control over ,..

Like I said to the other guy ..I hope the venting here helps in the meantime

Don’t tell me mate ..tell the other bloke whinging about him.l.😂…

So why haven’t the extensions been done yet then ?

Also If Richo was still here ,,,would all these guys remain un- signed ?
The players managers are not idiots and will not be forced into resigning or accepting lowball offers regardless if a CEO tries forcing their hand.
They all knew there was the possibility of big money tax free money coming from PNG, so no CEO was going to make them sign any sooner.

Your man Richo would have got a few done by now if he was still in the chair

Deflecting. Ponga, Purdue, Connor Tracey, Tom Chester just re-signed. Only an issue for us it seems

On Fox last night they said they must reside in PNG , but when they come back to Australia they will not be taxed on what they have earned while in PNG . Labour government really looking after the poor Australians who can’t live with high energy costs and can’t feed there families due to high prices , but give players who already make a very good wage , a even bigger leg up , thus is disgustingly poor

I don't agree with the Australian government's financial backing of the PNG team but it's a soft power initiative to strengthen ties with PNG and foster regional security and development. Basically, we're scared sh*tless of China's increasing influence in the Pacific which was enabled in part by the previous government' apathy and ocassional hostiliy towards our neighbours in the region.
