Crossing yourself is a personal thing. It’s a quick act of faith someone does for themselves, whether anyone notices or not. A group huddle to pray is different because it’s a public, visible display that involves a bunch of people. That’s why I’d call it performative. Its a public display of religion rather than a private act of devotion.

I agree however many Poly Christian cultures are highly performative, for themselves, especially certain flavours of Protestantism.

E.g. the Fiji Bati sing a hymn before their national anthem, which is itself already kind of a hymn (God Bless Fiji).

I was raised Catholic and we had a Tongan contingent in the local church, and periodically they would all turn up in their pacific shirts and tupenu, absolutely sing the house down. It was practically sedate when they weren't there.

I know it to be true. The same way Bula was about to re-sign at the time, before then entertaining offers from other clubs post the HBG board fall out.
You can deny it all you want, but the fallout now is connected to the owners incompetentcy to run a football club.

I would love nothing more than to see what happened in December played out in court. Then we could hear all the evidence straight from the horses mouth. They didn't reverse their actions out of the kindness of their hearts now, did they?

Iam beginning to believe that luai really only came here for the money and he knew that PNG was around the corner that’s why he had the claus put in his contract. He really needs to step up over the rest of the season then he can piss off

Luai has lost a lot of respect around here, myself included. Whether long term this is better for the club or not, we can debate until the cows come home...

But I find it bemusing that you and Vicious have bought up HBG, because their hands aren't clean in this.

Luai was ready to remove his clauses in December 2025. He would have been a tiger until 2029. This means no PNG signing. This means the tigers wouldnt be letting him go after 2026.

So whilst there has been many moving parts in what has happened, it all started with the boardroom chaos back in 2025.

And before you come at me, you brought them up, not me.

I almost wrote this message last night. Well said MTD. My view too.

However, I also now get a cold shiver thinking about Luai and $1.2m for the next three years. I’ll never forgive the HBG rabble for last year but I will admit that their disgraceful incompetence MAY have a silver lining.

Honestly if we use the funds wisely upgrade Sam Fainu and extend and get a good forward or two in Blore and Leota we will be a much better team.

I cannot see any universe where two rookies form a successful halves combination, especially behind a pack that is regularly on the back foot and with a fullback that doesn't take control of the ruck at any time. Throw in an Api injury and you've got another rookie spine player at hooker...

Have to laugh at all the HBG haters - they must think some debenture holder is sitting in an office at Wests Ashfield wondering how he can screw over WT again - i know lets tell Luai he can leave - totally laughable. This decision would have been made by the football dept and Shaun M. They whine that the club needs to be run more professionally and more business like and then when the club does just that they whinge and whine again. Luai for the money he is on just hasn't worked and getting him off the books early is a good decision.

HBG will constantly be a target until these season-defining dramas stop happening, we make the 8, or until they start acting like a professional outfit. We don't even know who the WT board is 7 months in.

The football department has copped the blame for the last 15 years and then HBG ignored a review on how to improve. So if they know better, then bloody well show it. Again, we're in the headlines and another season is basically over.

If you're not sick of it, then so be it. But I bloody am.

Yeah it should be AD 7, Latu 6 and Javon first drop.

There will be plenty of opportunities because AD is always picking up an injury and Latu’s tackling style will continue to cause head knocks and shoulder issues.
