There was a media claim that Souths are only paying $150k towards his salary this year …

Personally, I would rather keep him here if that’s all they can get another club to pay for him… thats league minimum that you need to spend on someone else to replace him in the Top 30

Here's the thing. We don't have a backup halfback contracted for next season if either of Luai or Latu go down. Yes we have Mason but he's a running 5/8 and needs time.

Sullivan has proven to be a very good bench utility for the Rabbitohs who can slot in at dummyhalf or in the halves.

Unless we secure a Jock Madden or Brad Schneider for $200k to be our NSW Cup halfback & backup halfback, it may be a better play for us to have Bud return if Souths are the only suitor chipping in $150-$200k. That means we'd still have to pay $350-$400k for him to play elsewhere.

I'd be talking to his manager Tartak to throw out an olive branch and discuss the opportunity for Bud to be our #14 hooker, half and also add ball-playing lock to his role in short bursts so we can maximise his value & impact.

I've seen a greater steel in his defensive resolve this season at Souths even at a lighter weight so this could potentially work even at 'overs' if a) he buys in and, b) Benji buys in.

I agree. As you said, if Souths are only going to pay half, we are paying him 200k to play elsewhere, its not really worth it.

Sullivan is an ideal 14 as he can cover a fair few positions (more value than TDS, Hope etc) and I am sure with our style we could find him a way to get him on the park every week, even if Korisau stays on (similar to how we used Latu off the bench).
