Was only speaking out loud that most of us do want to know the more intricate details re:recruitment.

I agree with you 100% on that Lauren. I personally feel that the process of recruitment is more complex than it needs to be.
I would like to see a more streamlined process without the leaks to media, which are mostly opinion pieces.

We haven't leaked to the media in ages. I see recruitment as an extremely complex endeavour, how would you streamline recruitment?

Easy. There’s gotta be what, about 30 different players on the market that could improve the WT. we need to put a dollar value on each one and engage their manager with our interest.

From there you have maybe 8-10 that show any interest. Then it should be up to Madge to decide which ones we go after. In my opinion we should be offering about 25% more than other clubs due to our predicament/reputation.

Land none of them and we rely on the kids. Questions need to be asked why and changes need to be made.

Land 3-4 of them and we are back in the game.

Current strategy reeks of desperation and lack of planning.

That is exactly what we do, the club knows what it wants in regards to players and is actively trying to entice those players to the club. Due to our last 10 years that is not working out with the established stars, so we need to build through the youth we are managing to attract.

Then we are stumbling at the self-awareness stage. What makes us so unattractive that people knock back a 25% pay increase? There must be lots of non-monetary things that we aren’t offering. Just an example but I’m sure Teddy can take his girlfriend to a nice restaurant and gets the A1 treatment, probably grabs a free cup of coffee at his favourite cafe. His mum’s real estate advice is probably taken care of.

This professionalism is (in my view) where we are well behind the pack.

What makes us unattractive is that we haven't played finals in a decade, that we have had 5 coaches in that time, that we knifed our 2 highest profile players, that we have been training in worse facilities than you would find at your local gym, literally below an unused grandstand that also housed our offices, players have been coming here to have their career killed when they chase that payrise you talk about.

It takes time to rectify that sort of wrap, but hey you want to create more instability, maybe that will fix it.

I agree the facilities are a problem but the club are taking steps to fix that, can’t really crucify anyone for that.

But the cycling through coaches and signing underperforming players, that’s on the decision makers 100%. Were not killing careers were signing blokes who’se career is already 6 ft under.

Ahem roberts ahem Mansour

Roberts at $130k is ok, I don't want Mansour either.

I'm not talking about the reality when I talk about killing careers, how do you think it looks to other players when we sign people to big contracts and then playing them in reserve grade. Who would want to come here after that.

Perception is reality.

How do you justify the Roberts deal? He’s been sacked for discipline numerous times. Clearly he had done something majorly wrong at Souths. Just walked away from half a mill no questions asked. And you think that will help with perception????

Moses Suli was sacked what twice in two months and then pulled his head out of his arse. Found good form too.

Cool so we can go out to the pub after a massive problem child who no one else wants but can’t focus on retaining players who will have a dig, won’t damage our brand and have shown improvements under Madge.

Our club is a total shambles but hey membership numbers and sponsors $$ are all that matters

Suli was very young and and had barely started his career,Roberts is not that young for a footballer and every time i see him on the field he reminds me of Jamal Idris another man with talent and a poor attitude. We all saw how that turned out.

Gee I’m glad our coaching staff don’t take much notice of what some rocket scientist on here come up with.
If I was coach and had some young players with nothing more than potential on the roster (like we have) and players such as Roberts and Mansour are available on the cheap than I would definitely take a risk and sign them.
Yes 2 year max, and let’s face it if they can’t handle it they are both only one breakdown away from medical retirement so very low risk.
These Guys are first grade ready and alternative option to fill our roster with large % of young & untried at first grade level players is fine but don’t expect any great team improvement short term.

You want to buy blokes you know are one injury away from retirement? One that had been shown the door at every club he's been at?
Low ceiling mate

To be fair, every player in the league could be one injury away from retirement
Tuiaki and Dwyer both great players and young but retired due to injury
It can happen to anyone
But signing a player who has had repetitive injuries to the same area such as continually tearing calf muscles or chronic shoulder injuries is a different story
Nether Roberts or Mansour fall into this category
The issue with Roberts is wether he has his mind in the game or elsewhere
That is something that the club MUST consider very carefully
If they sign Roberts and he lets us down of the field, then heads in the front office must roll
They need to make dam sure he is ready for football
Why doesn’t the club call Bennett for his opinion on signing Roberts
Its quite interesting if you think about it
Does Bennett put a good word in for him, and by doing so could disprove the reason for a souths release
Or does he say stay away because his head is not in it

So where has the heads rolled when we signed the following,
Mybe, Reynolds, Packer???? (Admin Wise)
Pascoe has been here since 2015 and looking like has learned nothing when it comes to recruiting.

All these players above were signed on these $ on his watch???
Then he cost us $675k Salary cap over 2 years with the Robbie Farah ambassador role???? The issue is at the top if we sign these type of players.

**Pascoe Signing story.**

It had taken the Tigers three months to find their man, however club chair Marina Go described Pascoe as the best candidate for the job.

"Justin's experience both here in Australia and overseas across a number of positions means that he brings a unique set of skills to Wests Tigers," she said.

"And we look forward to him joining the club and working with us to achieve the lofty goals set out in our strategic plan.

"The appointment of Justin is another step that the club has made towards building a winning culture that is focused on performance outcomes.

"We are committed to building a successful club that will compete for premierships."

Appointment in 2015, how have we fared.....?????

Would need to know what the goals were from the Strategic Plan and if he achieved them.

Highly doubt it when he was 6 months away from the CEO role.
The way i see it has been here 5 plus years now and we have not gone forwards but backwards.
Brought his mate in Cleary how did that work out?
Team currently training out of de-mountables?
Can't attract any quality players to club.
Membership static or gone backwards.

States on a positive note that we made a profit the year prior however you can change things in the balance sheet to make it also look that way as a once off.

Any drop in memberships or profit next year will be blamed on covid. There's always an excuse. We're stuck with him for a while yet.

Why are we stuck with him he should be on an annual contract that is reviewed at board level, measured against KPI's achieved?

Because we're idiots.

There is one other possibility? The lack of accountability at board level?

There is a fair chance he will come out of rehab ok. The problem we would face is him falling back into his ways. There in is the clincher. History says he will. This is the area that requires the most thought and diligence

This is where the real plodders are!

Sorry if my comment offended you but the key word in it was "most", so there's no need to be insulting.

Suli was very young and and had barely started his career,Roberts is not that young for a footballer and every time i see him on the field he reminds me of Jamal Idris another man with talent and a poor attitude. We all saw how that turned out.
Jimmy the Joke is a very long long shot to be a success

He is worth the gamble on a small contract. If we want to pay top dollar it's a big pass.

Well why not put it all on a HOA for a spot prior to the mid year deadline, if and only if the rehab Souths are paying for achieves the desired outcome? I would like to see the Jet burning the grass again as much as anyone, but he can’t do that if he is unwell.

There is a fair chance he will come out of rehab ok. The problem we would face is him falling back into his ways. There in is the clincher. History says he will. This is the area that requires the most thought and diligence

Yeh, agree. The high probability of relapse is the issue. I feel uncomfortable discussing someone’s health issues on a public forum. But I will say there are many more better solutions to any number of problems than we may realise.

The fact we are looking at Jimmy shows how desperate Tigers are to sign someone, almost anyone. Total desperation.

Why? There are a number of successful clubs who make similar signings. If we’re paying big $ maybe, but if he’s fit and good value we’d be nuts not to consider it.

Heard anymore updates re Roberts Yoss?

I don't understand all the negativity and talk of desperation. The club has its challenges, sure. But it still has a roster to fill. Desperation is Cleary signing deadbeats to 4 year contracts. There is none of that now and astute buying is key, not paying overs like the WT of old. Its going to set us up much better for years to come. All for Roberts if its a short, incentive based low cost contract. He might surprise us.

You cannot add a bloke like that to a group that on face value hasn’t had a true leader in a while and that reportedly hates training hard. An absolute recipe for disaster. If Wayne gives up on you, there’s a reason.

Whilst I think Mansour would be a colossal mistake, Roberts at min wage is worth the risk. If (and it's a big if) he can get back to 70% of his old form, he'll be one of our best players. If he delivers nothing, no big deal.
